What I'm looking to do is 'hook' a physical drive connected to the system so I can process data coming through the API before it's written to the disk. I have a sense DeviceIOControl is where I should be, but I can't seem to find any IOCTL code that uses a callback (which is what I expect I should be using to scan/process data on its way through the API).

I have a program that allows the user to enter a drive letter into a text box. The program then takes the letter and find the physical drive number (i.e. deviceharddisk3..). It then stripes out everything and leaves me with the number 3.
In VB6 I used mDrive.bas from vbAccelerator.com and it worked perfectly. I have been all over the internet and back and cannot find a solution written in VB.NET.
I am trying to get the physical drive (device) number from the drive letter. If the user inputs the drive letter C the program will find the associated physical device number. For example if I input C then the result needs to be \Device\HardDrive1\... Some call it NT Device Name; I think. I have the code for VB6 from vbAccelerator, which works perfectly, but it does not work in VB.NET. My question is there a simple way of pulling the drive info that contains the drive letter and the physical device number. I have searched the internet and found nothing for VB.NET. I would post code but I have nothing for .NET.

I am new to VB and playing with a program to display disk info attached to my PC. I have used WIN32_DiskDrive & WIN32_LogicalDisk to gather info regarding volumes, disks and partitions.

View 1 RepliesMy final goal is that striking F12 prints the date (through SendKeys) in the application/window having currently the focus (Word, Excel, Outlook, whatever). I have consequently implemented a globak keyboard hook (system-wide), which is running well (source code below).
My concern is that I would like to prevent any other local treatment based on F12. For instance, striking F12 under Microsotft Word prints the date is the open document (which is fine!) but also launches the "Save as..." dialog box, since F12 is a local shortcut/keybinding under Word. (Actually, the date is printed within a field of a the "Save as..." dialog box). I want to avoid this.
In other words, my aim is to improve the "hook" below so that striking F12 does what I want (which is already the case) but nothing more. That is to say, I would like that, except my treatment, the system "forgets" that F12 was striken.

View 4 RepliesI'm coding this neat little project that's kind of a hack into the SanDisk U3 Cruzer's ability to have both a CDFS and FAT32 File System. This is helpful because the program is burned to the CDFS (It's basically slip streamed as an .ISO in place of the original U3 .ISO), and the settings files (which I've developed as text files) are placed on the root of the flash drive. The program itself is VERY simple actually, except I'm having a slight issue that's really driving me insane:
The drive path of the Flash Drive won't be the same from computer to computer. I.E... The files are "UAI.txt" and "UInfo.txt". The root of the drive on my comp is "I:", but on my laptop is "F:". So if I program the path from my computer as the absolute path, an exception is thrown when the path changes on another computer. I cannot have this happen. It is probably THE MOST crucial element to this program. How can you save and read info if you can't find the files? =P

View 1 RepliesI have a connection to an access database, I have used the data sources tool provided because in this particular instance I don't want to do much with it other than display the records (which I can do) and edit them (which I'm haveing some trouble with).I have created a system whereby the database is connected to using the preset tools available like; BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator etc.
I also have a button for edit. This doesn't work and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this? I can't really provide any code for this, because I didn't code the connection by hand and the code I have been attempting to use for editting the records in the database doesn't even sort of work.

For whatever odd reason, we have a legacy data recorder device that runs at 9600 baud. Except when it needs to transfer its recorded data to a PC, in which case it switches to 57600 baud.
The old VB6 code worked, although it had its own set of problems of course.
The routine is this: Do several COMMAND/RESPONSE routines to populate a list of available records, listed by timestamp, at 9600 baud. Once a timestamp or several are selected, display a file save dialog. At the moment that dialog is closed, send a command to the device to tell it "hey we're going to warp", sleep for 100ms, then set the baud rate property of the persistent COM1 connection to 57600, before beginning to process XMODEM data and do the progress bar dance.
The problem I'm having is that it doesn't appear that the data received is ever really kosher as far as the byte marshaling is concerned. Which makes me wonder just how well SerialPort is at dynamically changing bauds on the fly. The VB6 version used MSComm.
I've even attempted to just use MSComm through the compatibility layer but "CTL_E is not supported" which makes it sound like it's incapable of doing XMODEM. (?)
On my program I am trying to make a ToolStripStatusLabel's text change to "connected" if connected to a network and if not connected to a network change the text to " Not Connected" then I don't know how to display a image if connected to a network or not connected. So if the computer is connected to a network I have a image that I would like to be displayed next to the ToolStripStatusLabel. And if not connected to a network, can the program display a different image? I tried this:

My software handles multiple operations on files, and I have now finished writing the related functions, using the System.IO classes. I now need to add support for network drives. Using a mapping works very well (although Directory.GetFiles is a bit low, and I don't know why), but I'd now like to be able to deal directly with paths such as \192.168.0.10Shared FolderMyDrive. Is there any way to handle this type of paths other than mounting the drive to an available drive letter, using the newly generated path, and then unmounting?

(Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. IE, i want to insure that whatever read or write that is requested is actually executed even in the case of a temporary drive interruption.

View 14 RepliesI want to hook the keyboard and make some actions (in vb.net) when a specific physical key is pressed.I have found online several excellent keyboard hook dlls, but there is a problem: the hook dlls find the keycode of the pressed keys, not what physical key is pressed.So, for example, in a USA keyboard if I press the key on the left of the Right-Shif key I see the e.keycode: 191 (OemQuestion), in a italian keyboard I see the e.keycode 189 (OemMinus).This means that if I put in My.Settings the code "189", an italian user can see that has to press the key I want, an USA user see another key to press to have the same action because on it keyboard the OemMinus key is not on the left of the Right-Shift key.now the question is: how to determine univocally the keyboard keys? What do I have to put in My.Settings that determinate a specific physical key, the same for all the keyboard languages?

They first enter breakfast, then lunch, then dinner, but the totals all open in one page and if they close that page, they lose their totals.
