Value of type 'String' cannot be converted to 'System.Net.IPAddress'.
What I'm looking to do is 'hook' a physical drive connected to the system so I can process data coming through the API before it's written to the disk. I have a sense DeviceIOControl is where I should be, but I can't seem to find any IOCTL code that uses a callback (which is what I expect I should be using to scan/process data on its way through the API).

View 1 RepliesI have a thesis project. it is composed of a webpage created on php and a system using vb.net 2008. As of now , they are both connected to the same database. I am wondering if it is possible that if i packaged the system and live the website, will still be connected with one database?
View 1 RepliesI have a connection to an access database, I have used the data sources tool provided because in this particular instance I don't want to do much with it other than display the records (which I can do) and edit them (which I'm haveing some trouble with).I have created a system whereby the database is connected to using the preset tools available like; BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator etc.
I also have a button for edit. This doesn't work and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this? I can't really provide any code for this, because I didn't code the connection by hand and the code I have been attempting to use for editting the records in the database doesn't even sort of work.
For whatever odd reason, we have a legacy data recorder device that runs at 9600 baud. Except when it needs to transfer its recorded data to a PC, in which case it switches to 57600 baud.
The old VB6 code worked, although it had its own set of problems of course.
The routine is this: Do several COMMAND/RESPONSE routines to populate a list of available records, listed by timestamp, at 9600 baud. Once a timestamp or several are selected, display a file save dialog. At the moment that dialog is closed, send a command to the device to tell it "hey we're going to warp", sleep for 100ms, then set the baud rate property of the persistent COM1 connection to 57600, before beginning to process XMODEM data and do the progress bar dance.
The problem I'm having is that it doesn't appear that the data received is ever really kosher as far as the byte marshaling is concerned. Which makes me wonder just how well SerialPort is at dynamically changing bauds on the fly. The VB6 version used MSComm.
I've even attempted to just use MSComm through the compatibility layer but "CTL_E is not supported" which makes it sound like it's incapable of doing XMODEM. (?)
On my program I am trying to make a ToolStripStatusLabel's text change to "connected" if connected to a network and if not connected to a network change the text to " Not Connected" then I don't know how to display a image if connected to a network or not connected. So if the computer is connected to a network I have a image that I would like to be displayed next to the ToolStripStatusLabel. And if not connected to a network, can the program display a different image? I tried this:
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=True(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Connected")
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=False(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Not Connected")

I need to check commandargs on the entry into an application. The value to check will either contain an ipaddress or a special case of '0' or Zero. I can't use he following because it will throw an exception on a valid ipaddress. What can I use to first determine if the value contains a value of type 10.0.110.65 before I check to see if the value is zero?
If (CInt(IncomingConnectionArgs.IP_Address) = 0)
I am just getting started with web requests using vb 2008. I saw an interesting video and article on a universal file download application which i could use asis except for one thing the download address was specified as [URL]. If at the moment i didn't have a domain name but a static ip address could I use this instead. If so how would I access the file specified in the url?
View 3 RepliesI have the following code:
Dim ipAdd As IPAddress = Dns.GetHostEntry(strHostname).AddressList(0)
Dim strIP As String = ipAdd.ToString()
When I convert to String instead of an IPv4 address like 192.168.1.0 or similar I get the IPv6 version: fd80::5dbe:5d89:e51b:d313 address. Is there a way I can return the IPv4 address from IPAddress type?
I have a TextBox control being used to capture an IPAddress from the user.I want to be able to allow them to change that IPAddres at which point the new value will be utilized by the appropriate .NET socket class to ping that new address.What other event is used with TextChanged to indicate that the user is done making changes to the TextBox. The Leave Event?

View 4 RepliesIs there any easy way to find out , which network am I connected to via programmatically. I mean we can check the Network is available through "My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable", same way can i find the name the network (Either Direct or via VPN).
I have to do something if my network is connected to a particular network.
i am trying to enumerate all IPs on my local network, but i am not having any luck. The only thing i have came up with so far is a really tedius "get my own ip and scan the subnet with pings" which surely isn't the best way? I am really only trying to get the ip of a tivo box, and i can determine it's a tivo by mac address or name. My router lists the "computer name" of the tivos as a long string of numbers with the prefix "tivo".What about broadcasting a ping packet? I could also attempt to connect with telnet to port 31339 on every one of them.

View 2 RepliesI'm viewing reports on a VB.net form using CrystalReportViewer. Once a report is opened, the Access database that is used within the report is locked (i.e., the Access MDB file can't be deleted). Even after the report is closed, the database stays locked until the VB.net app "ends". This is a problem because I want to be able to delete the MDB file at some point while running the app and can't. The VB.net app starts by opening a form named "Startup". No database connection occurs here. A button is pressed using this [code]I must not be properly closing the CrystalReportViewer or the Report form.How do I close the Crystal report and unlock/release the Access database?

View 7 RepliesMy first post here in vb forums. I'm new to sockets programming since I migrated from Winsock and I learn a lot from Atheist. using his code, I can't access the messageReceived() every time a client sends a message on the server. but then I put a code to catch the message on sub doRead() and I can retrieve the message. My problem now is how can I determine if a client is still connected to the server or not so I can delete it on the ConnectedClient ?
[Code]...
Note: the server runs on Win7 x64 ultimate and the clients are laptops on win7 x86. I read a comment that the server should be having a static IP address, but when did it together with the clients, It still doesn't work. I am just using a switch for the network.
I have connected a database query that I made using MS Access 2007 to my form in VB 2008. I know how to pull the fields onto the form and get the information to display on the form by clicking the binding navigator at the top of the form. My question is that is there a way that I could input the ID number in a textbox and click a button to display the rest of the field in some more textboxes

I am trying to figure out how to detect if a device is connected. The exact c# sample can be found here: [URL]
But when I tried to convert it to C# .... I wasted hours!
I googled a lot and changed the declaration of the API many times...
I want to detect when a new usb-device (can be anything) is connected to the computer. I don't need to know what kind of device it is, I just want to know when it is plugged in.
I found this thread: [URL]
I know the solution is in here, but I'm overlooking it I'm afraid. What I want:
USB-device connected > Run function. USB-device disconnected > Run another function.
How can I check through my application if computer is connected with internet or not (at the moment)I need a message if net is connected.
