Change Connected Network Via .Net?
Nov 13, 2011
I want to be able to change my network on the press of a button to another favorite network followed by the launch of a LAN based game and closing a set of pre-defined internet applications that will interrupt gameplay with "Lost connection" popups Basically I have two networks, on Internet, one only LAN (Both Wireless)I want to be able to switch networks and launch my game. I know the code for launching my game, but my question is....How do I switch network connections using my program?

On my program I am trying to make a ToolStripStatusLabel's text change to "connected" if connected to a network and if not connected to a network change the text to " Not Connected" then I don't know how to display a image if connected to a network or not connected. So if the computer is connected to a network I have a image that I would like to be displayed next to the ToolStripStatusLabel. And if not connected to a network, can the program display a different image? I tried this:
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=True(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Connected")
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=False(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Not Connected")

Using the code below i will get all network interfaces wich are enabled and functional on the machine.
Private netIntrfc As NetworkInterface() = NetworkInterface.GetAllNetworkInterfaces()
For i As Integer = 0 To netIntrfc.Length - 1
If netIntrfc(i).OperationalStatus = OperationalStatus.Up Then
[code]....
But my problem is how to get the default one, the one(ethernet adapter) through wich user is connected to internet?I need to change some settings of default(through wich user is connected to internet) adapter. settings i change through registry so i could sample add same settings for each network interface but that could cause problems and makes no point then?
EDITED:for now i have done like code below, so if this can help someone other...
Dim u As UdpClient = New UdpClient(System.Net.Dns.GetHostName, 1)
Dim localAddr As IPAddress = CType(u.Client.LocalEndPoint, IPEndPoint).Address
Private netIntrfc As NetworkInterface() = NetworkInterface.GetAllNetworkInterfaces()

I have 2 clients connected via a server program.When 1 client hits an arrow key, a picturebox moves on client1 and on client2.Before adding this network functionality, the picturebox on client1 moved fast with each click.Now, there is a delay of like 2-3 seconds.I know the code isn't optimal, but i'm not a networking wizard.What i'm doing is when pressing a key on client 1, it passes a text to a textbox in client 2 which then has the picturebox move in client 2 depending on the text.The slowdown occurs on client 1, which is odd because the picturebox isn't directly connected to the network code.[code]

For whatever odd reason, we have a legacy data recorder device that runs at 9600 baud. Except when it needs to transfer its recorded data to a PC, in which case it switches to 57600 baud.
The old VB6 code worked, although it had its own set of problems of course.
The routine is this: Do several COMMAND/RESPONSE routines to populate a list of available records, listed by timestamp, at 9600 baud. Once a timestamp or several are selected, display a file save dialog. At the moment that dialog is closed, send a command to the device to tell it "hey we're going to warp", sleep for 100ms, then set the baud rate property of the persistent COM1 connection to 57600, before beginning to process XMODEM data and do the progress bar dance.
The problem I'm having is that it doesn't appear that the data received is ever really kosher as far as the byte marshaling is concerned. Which makes me wonder just how well SerialPort is at dynamically changing bauds on the fly. The VB6 version used MSComm.
I've even attempted to just use MSComm through the compatibility layer but "CTL_E is not supported" which makes it sound like it's incapable of doing XMODEM. (?)

Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I'll give you a simple example:

I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

I am writing some code as part of a framework for opening a file.The file is of custom type and should not be opened by more than one instance of my application. To stop multiple file opening I use a filestream to create a lock file and then keep said filestream open. This seems to work in preventing another instance of my application from opening the file ( as it will fail in recreating the lock stream in the files open code ) but if the file is on a network share and the network drops then the original application also can not access the file any more.The code to get the lock stream is as follows:
Try
' We need to keep this stream alive to prevent other applications gaining access to the lock
mLockStream = New FileStream(mLockPath, FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None)[code]....
In this I create the lock stream the first time round and then if another application tries to create it, it throws an exception and stops them from getting any further. This is kind of how it needs to work, unfortunately as I said, if this is done across a network and then the network connection is dropped for some reason then I can not delete the lock stream as I get an IOException telling me a process cannot access the file as it is open in another process ( which shouldn't be happening I don't think).

i am trying to enumerate all IPs on my local network, but i am not having any luck. The only thing i have came up with so far is a really tedius "get my own ip and scan the subnet with pings" which surely isn't the best way? I am really only trying to get the ip of a tivo box, and i can determine it's a tivo by mac address or name. My router lists the "computer name" of the tivos as a long string of numbers with the prefix "tivo".What about broadcasting a ping packet? I could also attempt to connect with telnet to port 31339 on every one of them.

I'm viewing reports on a VB.net form using CrystalReportViewer. Once a report is opened, the Access database that is used within the report is locked (i.e., the Access MDB file can't be deleted). Even after the report is closed, the database stays locked until the VB.net app "ends". This is a problem because I want to be able to delete the MDB file at some point while running the app and can't. The VB.net app starts by opening a form named "Startup". No database connection occurs here. A button is pressed using this [code]I must not be properly closing the CrystalReportViewer or the Report form.How do I close the Crystal report and unlock/release the Access database?

My first post here in vb forums. I'm new to sockets programming since I migrated from Winsock and I learn a lot from Atheist. using his code, I can't access the messageReceived() every time a client sends a message on the server. but then I put a code to catch the message on sub doRead() and I can retrieve the message. My problem now is how can I determine if a client is still connected to the server or not so I can delete it on the ConnectedClient ?
[Code]...
Note: the server runs on Win7 x64 ultimate and the clients are laptops on win7 x86. I read a comment that the server should be having a static IP address, but when did it together with the clients, It still doesn't work. I am just using a switch for the network.
