View 2 RepliesIs it possible to check that the computer is in Domain Or in Workgroup.
if you want to manually check that computer's status, simply right click on
my computer and then select properties, then select computer name tab.
now you can see the computer is in domain or in workgroup.
i have a task to create a TCP Server (a program that is listening on its network card interfaces for incoming data stream).I have search on the internet and i found that i can use two methods : Socket or TCPListener class.I have created an example for Socket class, but i wondering how could i test it? I need to check that if another computer in the network send some string data to the listener computer , then this message should be displayed.Here is the example from microsoft that i am using for TCP Server using Socket:
Public Shared Sub Main()
' Data buffer for incoming data.
Dim data = nothingc[code]....
But it does not work because of the PORT setting.If in the TCP Server i have "Dim localEndPoint As New IPEndPoint(ipAddress, 0)" the client crashes, but if i change the port from any (0) to 11000 for example,the client works fine.Do you know why?
Later edit2:Maybe i should have started with this question:Which method is recommended for my scope?asynchronous or synchronous method ?
how to find the list of SQL servers on the local machine...and not the network...
I searched in google but everywhere its for the list of SQL servers on network....I just want my PC SQL server name....
I am developing an application, which hunts the local network for attached computers then checks for a share and a file, if found it displays it in a listbox. While testing this I have seen some strange Chinese or Japanese computer names pop up and in a few seconds go away, the names seem to always be different.
View 8 RepliesOn my program I am trying to make a ToolStripStatusLabel's text change to "connected" if connected to a network and if not connected to a network change the text to " Not Connected" then I don't know how to display a image if connected to a network or not connected. So if the computer is connected to a network I have a image that I would like to be displayed next to the ToolStripStatusLabel. And if not connected to a network, can the program display a different image? I tried this:
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=True(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Connected")
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=False(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Not Connected")
Does anyone know how this can be done? The problem is that when you run the script to add a domain user to the local group as a local user you have no permissions to query the domain. Is there a way to pass a user name and password when doing this? [code]...

When my system grants access to a user, it checks that the user is enrolled in a articular network domain. Once it is verified that the user is enrolled in that particular Domain, it takes his username to verify if he has a profile inside this system.This policy is very useful, because it exploits the security of the network domain, and the user does not have to memorize additional passwords.The problem is that this forbid access to the equipment that is not enrolled in the domain, which will be the case, if the equipment is Home Edition" or a user which try to get access from his home and a personal equipment.
View 3 RepliesI have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

I am developing a computer application designed to monitor the network and CPU statistics on a computer remotely. The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client.The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.
What would be the best method to send this information over to my host machine?I am programing in Visual Studio 2008 on windows XP. The client machine is also XP. I know this sounds a little shady, but it is required for my little business (http://www.iquorum.net) to monitor what and when something happens on our machines when I and my employees are away.
I need my program to add all users selected in a checkedlist box to the local administrators group.I will be logged in as a domain admin when doing this , if soeone tries to run this without permissions it should prompt them for domain admin creds[code]...
View 1 RepliesI'm in the process of writing a script for use in our lab. I need it to remotely add a domain user to the local group "Remote Desktop Users" on some remote desktop servers we use to bridge two subnets. The person adding the user would have admin rights for that remote server. I would use GPO, but we don't control the domain and it'd be damned near impossible to convince IT to set aside a OU for us with just those machines. I've been looking at using WMI in the script I've been working on but I haven't got the slightest clue how I'd implement it.

View 8 RepliesOur company is developing software projects that use a users windows username/password for program authentication. Our programs encrypt the username /password, send them to a web service. The web service decrypts the username/password and authenticates the user against our LDAP using the System.DirectoryServices namespace. This works well. There are two methods, one that validates the user and passes back the user's LDAP info in a datatable, the other passes back a boolean that indicates the user is on the domain. This is working just fine. Over the 4th of July weekend, our domain server hung. While it slowed down the login process for windows while it re-routed to a secondary domain server across the country, all our programs could not validate the users because our local domain controller was down.So I have been asked to update the web services to include a list of domain controllers that can be used if the local one is not available. Below is a snippet of code I use to validate a user:

The getinfo function uses the directory services to create an LDAP entry, then do a search based on the account name (windows username) and populates properties for common LDAP information. How can I extend this function, or re-write it, to run down a list of domain controllers found on the network to validate a username? I was thinking of putting the domain in a database, but that requires administration as they change. Is there a way to cycle through the local domain controllers listed on the machine?
How would i go about seting up a local database to store data so it can be used offline then to sync up with SQL server 2008 r2. i've got to the point of having a test project with a local DB that stores the data and a test SQL server but know idea how to set it up to sync with between databases.
