I have a winforms application and would like to allow the application to open and save files from/to a folder on the network (acting as a document manager). Only one user has access to the folder and I can hard code that users credentials into the application. Where using AD on windows server.How do I allow the application to do this?I would prefer not to use impersonation but from my research it appear I may have to. I would welcome suggestions for alternative methods. I do have some code for impersonation which seems to work. However I cannot open the file using process.start I get access denied.

I'm trying to allow users to update their details after logging in on an asp site using vb. Textboxes are populated with user details using session variables in the form_load. The textboxes should be editable but for some reason are not registering the changes when the submit button is clicked.
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Txt_Fname.Text = Session("First_Name")
Txt_LName.Text = Session("Last_Name")[code]..........

I have an mvc intranet application using windows authentication. It currently has one controller with three actions.
The first action (index) should be available to everyone, this is no problem. The second and the third actions should only be available to users in a specific DOMAIN. However the tag only gives me 2 options: Roles or Users. I tried using Users and setting it to 'DOMAIN*' and 'DOMAIN?' but that doesn't work.

Looking for some .net snippet on accessing what users are logged into a domain. I have looked through all the AD namespace and okay with that in getting static items. Specifically, NOT looking for current logged in user for a given machine(have that as well). Looking for a list of users that are currently signed into a Domain.Essentially, I want to pass a user (or list of users) to a method that will check to see if the user passed in, is currently logged into the network (AD).

When my system grants access to a user, it checks that the user is enrolled in a articular network domain. Once it is verified that the user is enrolled in that particular Domain, it takes his username to verify if he has a profile inside this system.This policy is very useful, because it exploits the security of the network domain, and the user does not have to memorize additional passwords.The problem is that this forbid access to the equipment that is not enrolled in the domain, which will be the case, if the equipment is Home Edition" or a user which try to get access from his home and a personal equipment.

When I originally set up my project I 'hard-coded' my username and password in so that I could access a remote DB2 database. Now that I need to publish it to other users they need to be prompted for their own usernames and passwords. I've gone to "My Project/Settings" and deleted the items from the string - but when I run I get the following message on the statement:
Me.BATCHTableAdapter.Fill(Me.DB1DataSet.BATCH)
ERROR [08001] [IBM] SQL30082N Security processing failed with reason "3" ("PASSWORD MISSING"). SQLSTATE=08001
The settings are as follows (before I delete the userid and password):
Name:DB1ConnectionString
Type:(Connection string)
Scope:Application
Value:Database=DB1;Server=99.999.999.99:446;userid=myuser;password=mypassword;Persist Security Info=True;
The question is what do I have to do to make it forget my userid and password - and always prompt the user for both when running up?

I would like to store some app data in a 'default system folder', so when I launch the program it will know where to look for it's own settings.As a matter of fact I only need to store there a path to the files used by the program. Users will be able to choose where to put them (simplified installation). The program has to know where to look for them.
Am I creating the folder properly? As you can see I'm referring to C:... The folder structure presented here comes from my laptop running on Windows 7 Ultimate. Maybe the C:... can be somehow defined by some sort of a system 'shortcut'. Following the above example the program would look for those in C:... , but maybe I can use something like ~~ default.app.settings.My Program Name ~~~. How does it work? Have no idea how to call it properly, but I'm sure you will know what I mean.

I'm running into this problem when it comes to determining a network logged on username and i hope someone can help me out or atleast point me in the right direction.Situation:1 Windows 2003 server that is serving files through Active directory. No Dfs installed, just plain files sharing.1 or multiple clients that access the files, make modifications and creates or deletes files. For arguments sake let's say that the clients are Windows XP computer and the users are logged on to the local domain (AD).Currently available:When the client alters, creates or deletes a file i have a (VB.Net Windows Service) script that tells me that this is being done and stores a record in a database for this action being performed.Desire:I wan't to know the client's ip-address, computername or logged on username so that i can store this to. I have tried about 20 different scripts but all check the username on the server side and not the client. So now i either get back "SYSTEM" or "NTAUTHORITYSYSTEM" instead of the user's AD name.Below is the code i use to monitor the directory and or file changes.The "writeDBLog" is where i want to pass the username to write to the database.

With the help of NetFileEnum or Openfiles.exe of system32, we can get the username who has opened the shared files. Is there any API function or any exe files in any programming language like c#, vb.net, visual c++ to find out who is the user to create, rename, or delete shared files or folders on the network?

I've been having huge problems having a VB.NET Windows Forms program run as a scheduled task under XP SP3. The program runs when I set the task up to use my non-admin network username and password, I can see the interface fine (albeit without the desired results - the program requires access to remote shares). When I set the task up with the network administrator account credentials, the task is "Running" but I do not see any interface. It doesn't error - it just kind of sits there happily in the background.

I've been looking at accessing shared folders, read and write, via the network without being prompted by the OS for the username and password.
On this forum, and googling, I can find many things about accessing network shares, but none using code which also passes the username and password required.
What I'm basically looking for is to not have to map a drive on the users computer. Then using code, write or read files from a network share and at the same time pass the username / password required for that network share.

I know my Question was asked maybe 10000 times before, but i really did not take the chance to search the forum coz i really short of time.
I have *.mdb DataBase with 20 tables each table have more than 10 fields, i'm trying to automate the MDB file from a network like that 5 PCS + One vb.net exe program (5 users) working on the same time on the exe that is connected to the database , my questions are :
1) How much risk is it to put the database into one (shared) folder and connect it to the program ?
2) What is the best way to establish this method ?
3) Is there any alternatives ?
