I have a .net Windows Service developed in VB.net. I have a settings file in the root directory called Connections.XML and I am setting the basedirectory [code]...
When I schedule the service this is working absolutely fine in my Windows XP machine. But when I installed the same service in our development server (Windows 2003 64 bit Server) for some reason it is not able to locate this file.
my code is Dim fs As FileStream =New FileStream("C:Documents and SettingsC100492DesktopDocssampleWSxmls" & GadgetName & ".xml", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)
In the above code I have to change the phisical path(C:Document) with Server.mappath. let me know how to write the same code with Server.mappath. I have all xml files in my local application folder(folder name:XML).
I am trying to get get the path of a directory that I have a template file in. ie in asp.net I use
Dim path as string = Server.MapPath("~/Reports/")) and then once I have the Reports dir I can do this
Using r As StreamReader = New StreamReader(path & "Template.htm")
Dim line As String
[code]...
That works great in asp.net but now I need to do the same thing in a console app. I have tried the function path = GetFullPath("~/Reports/") and instead of getting the absolute path to the Reports dir it returns /bin/debug/reports which is wrong. The file Template.htm is not in that directory.
How can i use Server.MapPath in shared methos i tried something lile this [code]...

View 4 RepliesI have programs written in VB2005 accessing mdb database in server. When the server run XP, it was never a problem (at the time, the folder was shared to all). There is a new rule in the company and we have Win 2003 server, and my mdb file must be stored in a folder in the server that the administrator (not I) have installed password. And clients are supposed to access it as user only. I can ask password as administrator, but the users of my program must not have the administrator password (which I can included in my program if necessary). How can I modify my program so that it can access the database? I assume I must modify my connection string, but I do not know how. I am currently using this:
"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= C:Integrity ERPPBF.mdb;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=ABC"
how to load a .bak file of database backup in sql server 2005 using vb.net 2008 windows application?
View 5 RepliesWe are currently using Access 97 as our database. This resides on the remote farm server (which is a Windows 2008 R2 server). We are using a front end vb6 exe which accesses the back end data.Occasionally we are getting corruption to our database and we have to make sure everyone exits the software to allow us to repair/compact it. There are 2 physical servers, each running 2 virtual machines. When the user logs onto the farm using RDP, they go to one of these 4 virtual machines.We are getting all kinds of corruption, some where # characters have been inserted into the top of one table, some where the indexes are corrupted, and some where access needs to repair the database.

View 1 RepliesI have a VB.NET executable program that I've been running nightly as a Windows Scheduled Task on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I have the source code, and it was compiled using VS 2005. Now I want to run it on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine. If I try to "open" it from Windows Explorer, I get "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running." It is in Program Files(x86), so doesn't the OS know to run it as a 32-bit application? Do I have to load this in VS2008 and recompile it there as a 64-bit app? But all my old VB6 and VBScript scheduled tasks are running fine, why is the OS only complaining about this program?
View 1 RepliesI have a windows app created in 2005 with sql server backend. There's also a web service that is located on a web server at a hosting facility. In my app, when ever it needs to interact with the data, it calls the web service.Ive been having this issue with several screens that Ive developed in .Net. The user enters a date, and saves to the database. When the datagridview is refreshed, the date that they entered always displays one day earlier. Eg. If they entered 4/18/2012, it displays as: 4/17/2012.
The date is correct in the database. I verified that the problem resides on the web server. The default timezone set on the server is GMT -06.00 Central Time(US and Canada) and it cannot be changed on the shared server. The time zone where I'm at is Pacific Standard time. I'm not sure the best way to deal with this issue. Here's one way I was thinking: Retrieve today's date from the server (don't know how to do this), and compare it to the date on my machine so I know the difference. Then, when I'm looping through the datatable, add this same number to the dates to display correctly. Maybe it's better to retreive it from the database via the sql?
I am using memorystream to get and store images into sqlserver 2005 table image field. This process is working and I am able to display image in picture box. I need to be able to store PDF files into the same field and be able to display in a picture box.
View 2 RepliesI have been given a task to create a new billing system for my company and I have been trying to get the customers from one Access 2000 database into the SQL Server 2005 table
Public Sub IPCustomers()
Dim rtn As Integer
Dim OLEDBConn1 As New
[Code].....
The problem lies in the strSQL where you see dbo_Libraries.LibDescription.Value and dbo_Libraries.LibID.Value.
Before, I merely put single quotes around the fields from the from the Access Table and it inserted exactly the code itself, dbo_Libraries.LibDescription.Value and dbo_Libraries.LibID.Value , and only 1 record. There are over 300 records in the table.
When I put double quotes around both, separating them out from the string I get the error "Arguments Not Set."

For years now I have been using access as my database. But with the SQL server Express version around I have been wondering if it is not better to use this instead of access. Note: I only develop applications for small businesses and a limited set of users. So what do you guys prefer and recommend?
