View 2 RepliesI want to build an application, which can remote access to SQL Server in Server Machine.I used to build one, and it also can access to SQL Server in other pc. But when i promote it to become a Server(to become a Domain Controller). My application has never access to SQL Server. I don't know what to do now?
remember: I want to build an application, which is accessing to SQL Server in Window Server(Client/Server Application).
I've found a few examples of using vb.net to access an sql database, so far none of them have worked . They all involve using DataReaders. Maybe its the fact that the sql db is not on the same machine as the application.I was just wondering if anyone had a more comprehensive example of using VB.NET to access a remote sql server.
EDIT:I've received a few helpful comments an replies already. So far my connection string looks like:
"server=sqlblah.myhost.com;uid=myuser;pwd=pass;database=testdb"
Probably also good to mention their is no editing of the tables a this point, just reading.
how can I get the path of Windows on a remote server. I know that for the pc that is running the application I can do System.Runtime.Interop Services.RuntimeEnvironment.GetRuntimeDirectory but on a remote server, how can I do?

View 1 RepliesI am having trouble in creating a login form in my windows application.If i create a login form with its database local to the system ,it works fine .But my requirement is that the database is placed on a remote server so that the login is secured.When the user tries to use the application he first needs to login.When he puts the username and password in the login form it should send the data to a remote server for authentication.

View 2 RepliesI'd like to write a simple Windows form that will make it easy to record a voice message before uploading it to a remote web server and sending the URL to the recipient(s):
[URL]
Currently, the user has to use Sound Record to record the message, use an FTP client to upload it to a web server, and finally, use an e-mail client to send the URL. I'd like to combine those three features into one.
I have a .net Windows Service developed in VB.net. I have a settings file in the root directory called Connections.XML and I am setting the basedirectory [code]...
When I schedule the service this is working absolutely fine in my Windows XP machine. But when I installed the same service in our development server (Windows 2003 64 bit Server) for some reason it is not able to locate this file.
We are currently using Access 97 as our database. This resides on the remote farm server (which is a Windows 2008 R2 server). We are using a front end vb6 exe which accesses the back end data.Occasionally we are getting corruption to our database and we have to make sure everyone exits the software to allow us to repair/compact it. There are 2 physical servers, each running 2 virtual machines. When the user logs onto the farm using RDP, they go to one of these 4 virtual machines.We are getting all kinds of corruption, some where # characters have been inserted into the top of one table, some where the indexes are corrupted, and some where access needs to repair the database.

View 2 RepliesI've spent a whole day on this already without figuring it out. I'm hoping somebody can help me translate the following MySQL query to work for SQL Server 2005:
SELECT MAX ( messages.date ) AS maxdate,
topics.id AS topicid, topics.*, users.*
FROM messages, topics, users WHERE messages.topic_id
= topics.id AND topics.user_id = users.id AND
topics.forum_id = " . $forumid . " GROUP BY
messages.topic_id ORDER BY maxdate DESC
$forumid is a QueryString value defined in the following VB.NET code-behind code:
forumName.Text = "<a href='ViewForum.aspx?forumid=" & row.id & "'>" & row.name & "</a>"
I have a VS2005 utility that I'm working on that has an Access 2003 backend. A couple of days ago, my boss asked that I change one field in two tables from TEXT to MEMO, to allow more information to be put in. In doing some final pre-deployment testing, I find when I hit my button to pull up the list of tickets, I get the error
"System.Data.ConstraintException was unhandled
Message="Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints.""
The datagrid is based on a query I have in the database. The query runs fine, and when I go through the XSD and go into Query Builder, the QB is also returning data. I have made the various changes to the utlity as suggested by Microsoft, but no luck. When I put the two columns back to TEXT, the Grid works fine.
How the heck do I set it up so that the grid will recognise the new data format? The number of characters for the individual columns is set to 37,627 (I believe, it's whatever the default is). I only have 200 characters in my test data. I need to rebuild the whole dataset - this deployment has to be done by the end of the day tomorrow and I have a whole pile of other stuff left to do.
Using vb.net 2005 - FtpWebRequest for ListDirectory always gets 550 error The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access).

FTPListDirRequest.Method = System.Net.WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectoryDetails

View 1 RepliesI have a VB.NET executable program that I've been running nightly as a Windows Scheduled Task on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I have the source code, and it was compiled using VS 2005. Now I want to run it on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine. If I try to "open" it from Windows Explorer, I get "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running." It is in Program Files(x86), so doesn't the OS know to run it as a 32-bit application? Do I have to load this in VS2008 and recompile it there as a 64-bit app? But all my old VB6 and VBScript scheduled tasks are running fine, why is the OS only complaining about this program?
View 1 RepliesI have a windows app created in 2005 with sql server backend. There's also a web service that is located on a web server at a hosting facility. In my app, when ever it needs to interact with the data, it calls the web service.Ive been having this issue with several screens that Ive developed in .Net. The user enters a date, and saves to the database. When the datagridview is refreshed, the date that they entered always displays one day earlier. Eg. If they entered 4/18/2012, it displays as: 4/17/2012.
The date is correct in the database. I verified that the problem resides on the web server. The default timezone set on the server is GMT -06.00 Central Time(US and Canada) and it cannot be changed on the shared server. The time zone where I'm at is Pacific Standard time. I'm not sure the best way to deal with this issue. Here's one way I was thinking: Retrieve today's date from the server (don't know how to do this), and compare it to the date on my machine so I know the difference. Then, when I'm looping through the datatable, add this same number to the dates to display correctly. Maybe it's better to retreive it from the database via the sql?
I have been given a task to create a new billing system for my company and I have been trying to get the customers from one Access 2000 database into the SQL Server 2005 table
Public Sub IPCustomers()
Dim rtn As Integer
Dim OLEDBConn1 As New
[Code].....
The problem lies in the strSQL where you see dbo_Libraries.LibDescription.Value and dbo_Libraries.LibID.Value.
Before, I merely put single quotes around the fields from the from the Access Table and it inserted exactly the code itself, dbo_Libraries.LibDescription.Value and dbo_Libraries.LibID.Value , and only 1 record. There are over 300 records in the table.
When I put double quotes around both, separating them out from the string I get the error "Arguments Not Set."
