View 10 RepliesI would like to import System.Data.OleDb to my list of references, but it won't let me, I can't find it on the list but it's obviously there cause I can type olede.oledbparameter.
My list shows
System.Data
System.Data.DataSetExtensions
System.Data.Entity
System.Data.Linq
System.Data.Services.Client
System.Data.SqlXml
I can't find System.Data.Oledb. Now, I did a "hack" job and got it added, but I couldn't figure out how to do it with the GUI. I edited the .proj file with notepad and added it manually.
How can I add it with the GUI?
Steps:
Clicked on Project
Clicked on Add Reference...
Clicked on .Net, Com, Projects
Couldn't find it on either of those lists.
I am looking for the best way to have a kind of runtime dynamical references. I will try to explain the purpose with an simple example.
Lets imagine we have a structure holding a persons data like this
Public Structure Person
Public FirstName As String
Public LastName As String
[code]....
A list of Persons is contained in a List Of Person. On a form we have a textbox showing the (First and Last) Name and a textbox showing ONE phone Number. With a selection we can choose what phone number to show. The selection gives the selections "Home", "Work" and "Mobile". we can scroll through the list of persons with a kind of scrolling mechanism (not important in this case)
For the textbox showing the choosen phone number we DO NOT want to use a CASE statement (it would be possible in this example, but with the real project this results in a runtime changing case).
So we want to use something like this:
textboxPhoneNumber.Text = SelectedPerson.xxxPhone
Where xxx can be home, work or mobile, resulting in the right reference to the structures choosen element (HomePhone, worhPhone amd MobilePhone).
Is there a way to achieve this in VB 2010?
I create a rich textbox control at runtime. However, I have an RowEnter event procedure for a DataGridView control that needs to reference this richtextbox. I get the obvious error in the DV event prodedure saying that the richtextbox has not been declared. What do I have to do to allow this event to recognize this control even though it does not yet exist at design time? I realize the easy way around this is to hide the control on the form until runtime.
View 1 RepliesOver and over i keep getting stuck on the idea of adding references to a project. I was looking about visual studios 2010, i clicked the project menu tab, and then scrolled to add reference. When i would click on it, it would bring up a large list to choose from. So, my issue is as follows. I am told to reference via my compile error message a few items. I thought i found the elements i was looking for and pressed OK. When i would try to run, it would still give me the errors.
What am i doing wrong? Am i not doing something correct?
here is my error code, and i looked it up, but for some reason, as stated above, i must not be referencing correctly?

I'm following an article (here) and stuck on the following:"Once you have created this class and compiled it, to use it in an ASP.NET Web application, start by adding it to the Web application's References folder."
Ok, so do i now need to compile my vb class file into a .dll and reference it from the BIN folder? If so how do i compile the vb file? I'm running VS 2005 .net 2.0
I have a VB.NET Console Application that depends on a C++ project in the same solution. I'm importing the C++ dll for use in the VB project. When I compile and then run the application, I get the runtime error R6034. Anything wrong going here?
View 2 RepliesI have created multiple dropdown list at runtime and populated with data. I also have added an eventhandler to determine the selected value of the drop down list.
The code is as follows :
Dim tbl As New Table()
tbl.EnableViewState = "true"

I am using CompilerParameters to dynamically compile code... The problem is when I use:
cp.ReferencedAssemblies.Add(CompilerPath & "est.exe")
to add a reference to test exe ... (where CompilerPath is the full path name)
Compiler Path is not the Compiler Application Path
I get an error when compiling stating that:
vb
"Could not load file or assembly 'test, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
If I put it in the test.dll in the "compiler apps" path and then call ReferencedAssemblies.Add with the full path it works.
I am creating a visual basic executable in Visual Studio but NOT in a Project.I would like to add some references (dll). How can I do that?
View 1 RepliesI have added reference to few dlls in my VB.net Project. When I check into Visual source safe and get latest version from another machine, VS.net 2008 throws errors.I have to add the references again in that new machine. Is there anyway where I can keep the references in spite of files checked in to VSS?I need to send copy all the files to production server and we don't have VS.net on the production box to add reference and build the application.
View 2 RepliesI have Crystal Reports 2008 installed on my win7 laptop but when i go to insert references from my application settings the CrystalDecisions references are missing and im not able to find them. Note: they do exist in my "c:windowsassembly" folder.
View 3 RepliesI am reinitiating again with these great topis on .Net. Mainly VB.Net. A friend of mine shared source projects, but can not compile. It is composed of a project that creates an .exe file and more than one project that create a DLL that are been used during the program execution. The thing is that project 1 (that creates DLL1) has a reference to DLL2. Normal I would say. But what surprised me is that project 2 (that creates DLL2) has a reference to DLL1.
More complex? Let's say that the program has 6 different projects (that creates 6 DLLs) and each of those has a reference to the others and viceversa? DLL1 has a reference to DLL2, DLL3, DLL4, DLL5 & DLL6. DLL2 has a reference to DLL1, DLL3, DLL4, DLL5 & DLL6. DLL3 has a reference to DLL1,..... and on and on. How to compile successfully these DLLs?
I have this VB ASP.NET Web Service Application project running VS 2005. I'm trying to add references. To do so I click on the "Properties" icon in the Solution Explorer window which presents me with a window to add/update/remove references. I click "Add", I select the reference I want and then "OK". Lo en behold, NOTHING! It simply won't add references (I tried adding several different ones). Specifically I'm trying to add the System.Configuration assembly.

I start with a text file containing information such as this: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1, 12:00:00.1 I made up the values of course but the idea is exactly the same. I need to have an if statement that if the text document has a record of Monday, then it is to put something like an X in the corresponding column in a data table. I'm sure I confused this way more than need be but I hope you get the most of it and I can elaborate if need be.
View 6 RepliesI have a table in my database. I have an import routine which reads rows from and XML file. It first loops through my existing table to see if the row exists using a date and store code column as a unique id. It all works fine until this senario occurs.First file is read in and a new row is added for 01/03/2011, store code 100. The second file is read in which also has a row with 01/03/2011, store code 100. But when I loop through it does not find the row I just added so it adds it again. The only solution I can think of is to re-populate the local table everytime I add a new row but this will have a massive amount of over heads. If I add a row to an existing dataset surely if I loop through that dataset I should come across it.
View 2 RepliesI am just wondering how I can add Direct X references to Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I cant find them in the .NET reference list, or the reference list, or anywhere. I downloaded the Direct X SDK for August 2009, but I can not add the .dll files to the reference list. Is there anything I can do to add them? I need the references for programming reasons.

View 4 RepliesI need to dump a bunch of delimited data to Excel. In VB6 days, I would save the data to a text file, then use ExcelApp.ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add (blah blah blah...) to import the data to Excel (I got this code from recording a macro while manually importing a text file). In VB.NET (2005), QueryTables does not appear to be an option for ActiveSheet.I could take the long path and manually parse thru the data writing to individual cells - however if I could just import it, it would be much faster.Part of the issue is not being able to record a macro in Excel in .NET format. So my primary question is, how do I import a delimited text file in to Excel without having to manually parse the data into individual cells.Secondary question is any tips for not being able to have ready made examples (in VB .NET format) by recording a macro.

I've inherited a .NET app to support / enhance which reads in a couple of files of high hundreds of thousands of rows, and one of millions of row.The original developer left me code like :-
For Each ModelListRow As String In ModelListDataArray
If ModelListRow.Trim.Length = 0 Or ModelListRow.Contains(",") = False Then
GoTo SKIP_ROW
[code].....
and it takes an age (well, nearly half an hour) to import these files.
This question is about VB.NET. I'm quite a novice on this one, so please forgive me if you feel that this question is nothing short of crazy or whatever. Anyway, I've been a creating a simple Windows addressbook Form application. We all know for a fact that a single person can have one or more addresses, of which a one-to-many relationship holds true. So there, my application also has to be able to edit each of these addresses (by the way, my application uses an Access Database, which really sucks but it's part of my task), and I already thought of using a control array (just like in PHP but it obviously never worked in .NET) for me to edit them. How am I supposed to implement this?
View 3 RepliesI have some questions on AppSettings. I can add a setting at design time from the settings tab of the My Project. I would like to add to the settings at run time. I have not found a way to do this. I would in VB6 use an ini file but would like to start using xml.
The .net makes this folder for the settings C:UsersRyanAppDataLocalTestAppSettingsAppSettings.vshost.exe_Url _0ay3fimqt4k0pp1s2e4vb3pi3iymxzx2 .
How do I retrieve the location to add to the xml file?
I want to place a few buttons on my form. The number is unknown at design time. Actually each button will represent an item entered in combo box. So if user adds an item, a button on the form should be added by the code.
