.NET Equivalent Of This C# Code For Wiring Up And Declaring An Event?

May 26, 2010

I'm working on a tutorial to build a media player in Silverlight and am trying to wire up an EventHandler to the timer.Tick event of a DispatchTimer object so that the time of the video is synced with a Slider object.

The sample code is in C# and I can't for the life of me figure out the proper syntax in VB.NET with RaiseEvent and/or Handles to wire up the event. Below is the relevant C# code. I'll include comments on where I'm getting stuck.

ADO .NET Equivalent Event To MS ACCESS Form's OnCurrent Event

May 11, 2009

I just want to know if there any equivalent event (ADO. NET VS 2008) event as in MS ACCESS Form's OnCurrent Event.

The reason is I like to make some calculations based on some data bound controls with current datarow data when user clicked a row in DataGridView (or by using bindingNavigator). I've tried with DatagridView's RowEnter event. But some Data bound controls are not yet reflect the data of current datarow when that evet was fired.

In MSDN Help File: It says "RowEnter Event: Occurs when a row receives input focus but before it becomes the current row. "

Asp.net - VB Equivalent Of C# Event Creation

Apr 12, 2010

I'm trying to extend the GridView class to always show the header and footer even when the datasource is empty by using the code I found online (link). However, the code is written in C# but I use VB.

What is the VB equivalent of the following?

public event MustAddARowHandler MustAddARow;

Is there a way around VB.NET not allowing events to return a type?

Also, I cannot convert the following function because of the error below.

Code:

Protected Function OnMustAddARow(ByVal data As IEnumerable) As IEnumerable
If MustAddARow = Nothing Then 'Error on MustAddARow'
Throw New NullReferenceException("The datasource has no rows. You " _

Any Way For A Class To Prevent Outside Code From Declaring Variables Of Its Type?

Jan 6, 2011

Is it possible for a class of exposing a type for function returns, without allowing users of that class to create variables of that type? A couple usage scenarios:A Fluent interface on a large class; a statement like "foo=bar.WithX(5).WithY(9).WithZ(19);" would be inefficient if it had to create three new instances of the class, but could be much more efficient if the WithX could create one instance, and the other statements could simply use it.A class may wish to support a statement like "foo[19].x = 9;" even when foo itself isn't an array, and does not hold the data in class instances that can be exposed to the public; one way to do that is to have foo[19] return a struct which holds a reference to 'foo' and the value '19', and has a member property 'x' which could call "foo.SetXValue(19, 9);" Such a struct could have a conversion operator to convert itself to the "apparent" type of foo[19].In both of these scenarios, storing the value returned by a method or property into a variable and then using it more than once would cause strange behavior. It would be desirable if the designer of the class exposing such methods or properties could ensure that callers wouldn't be able to use them more than once. Is there any practical way to accomplish that?In formulating a question, it's difficult sometimes to draw the line between complicated usage cases, and simpler usage cases which aren't quite so important. Here's another usage case, and one closer to the one I'd be most interested in (though I'm also interested in Fluent chaining; being able to have something behave like a C++ reference to a value type would be nice, but probably too much work to bother with).I have a type which is somewhat like the Windows registry, in that it is a hierarchical collection of items, each of which may have a string value, an integer value, and/or a nested collection of items. I wish to be able to support the following types of usage:[code]As for the Fluent interface, my thought would be to have the WithXXX properties return a new instance of a derived class which shadows (not overrides!) the WithXXX properties with versions that simply modify the current instance. The return object from WithXXX would be known to be of the derived class, and would thus use the shadowed WithXXX methods, but once it was assigned to a variable, it would be regarded as an instance of the base class, so the next WithXXX would create a new instance.

C++ a stronger concept of value types than C# or vb.net, including the very useful concept of references to value types; it ensures that references to value types cannot be persisted outside the scope of the type in question. Unsafe code in C# can use pointers to value types, but they don't have the protections offered by C++ references.

QueryClose Form Event Equivalent

May 29, 2012

I'm migrating a VB6 application, which has a subroutine that fires upon a QueryClose form event. As far as I can tell, this event no longer exists in System.Windows.Forms. I tested with a breakpoint, and QueryClose does fire when you click the red 'X' in the upper right corner of the VB6 form, like the FormClosing event is supposed to do in VB.NET forms. My question is: Does FormClosing have the closest equivalent functionality to QueryClose, or should I use a different event? [code]This code was originally VBA / VB6, which I put through ArtinSoft's Visual Basic Upgrade Companion (VBUC). VBUC apparently didn't think that there is an equivalent event, or isn't smart enough to do that sort of conversion. FWIW, I'm using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express.

C# - Equivalent Of WinForms TextBox.Validating Event In WPF

Sep 11, 2009

In WinForms I could handle the Validated event to do something after the user changed text in a TextBox. Unlike TextChanged, Validated didn't fire for every character change; it only fired when the user was done.Is there anything in WPF I can use to get the same result, an event raised only after the user is done changing the text?

VS 2008 : Equivalent Of A Dgv's Row_enter Event On A Datarepeater?

Feb 2, 2010

I have got a dgv which on clicking a cell or row triggers the row_enter event, this in turn fills a list which is then placed as the datasource for the datarepeater. Heres the event which works within a dgv

Private Sub dgv1_RowEnter(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles dgv1.RowEnter
Dim NameList As New List(Of TestList)
For Each item In Example.Item(e.RowIndex).Names

[code]....

Now this is all well and good but i need a way to do this using a datarepeater. I have tried about 5 events to get something like e.RowIndex and have been unable to find any event that would let me use this routine?

Use Something Equivalent To The CODE In VB?

Jan 23, 2010

I find that when I have the string

in cell (1,1)

and in Excel I put in cell(2,1) the formula

= code(mid(A1,1,1))

I get the result 63, which I should.But in visual basic, when I write

v1 = .cells(1,1)
.cells(3,1) = v1
msgbox asc(mid(v1,1,1))

the message returns 65, which is the code for A, not Ā.It is clear that VB is reading the contents of cell(1,1) correctly because it puts the correct text in cell(3,1).The Code function isn't supported in Visual Basic. I have been unsuccessful trying to use Application.code It won't compile. How can I get VB to give the correct code of the character Ā?

Nhibernate - What Would Be The Equivalent .NET Code For This C# FluentNHibernate Component Mapping

Feb 4, 2010

I'm a C# programmer constrained to write VB.NET code.While exploring NHibernate further for my current client, I encountered FluentNHibernate, which I find real attractive.But now, I wonder how to "translate" this C# code for component mapping into VB.NET code:

Component(x => x.Address, m =>
{
m.Map(x => x.Number);
m.Map(x => x.Street);

[code]....

what I miss is how to continue with the brackets in VB.NET, since there's no Begin End keywords or so.

EDIT 1: Following Mr. JaredPar instructions, I figured that his solution might work. If we take the time to read his answer, we may notice that we both don't know what the MType is within his solution. I might have found out that the MType is:

FluentNHibernate.Mapping.ComponentPart(Of TComponent)

Thus, TComponent is, from my understanding, an anonymous type that I shall parameter to use. From this point of view, since I wish to map the properties of my Address object, replacing TComponent in my help method signature seems not to work.

Private Sub MapAdresseHelper(Of Adresse)(ByVal a As FluentNHibernate.Mapping.ComponentPart(Of Adresse))
a.Map(Function(m) m.Number)
a.Map(Function(m) m.Street).Length(50)

[code]...

The error I get is that my Address class doesn't have a property member named Street, for instance. It sees my Address type, it recognizes it, but it seems buggy somehow. I guess VBNET is poorly designed for lambda expressions and is less evolved than C#?

Wiring Controls In VB, Controlling The Controls

Jan 31, 2012

I'm in the middle of using Visual Basic (Visual Studio 2010) to create dynamically created controls. Essentially what I'm doing is creating a label, a textbox, a label (which will act as a stopwatch), and a button (to control said stopwatch). Each set of controls will be arranged (and named) like this in a row: [Code] I've gotten the bit about creating the elements dynamically as well as creating them within in a panel with a particular number attached to the end of its name on the form that I've created. What I would like to do is wire an event for the button that was dynamically created to control the stopwatch timer that was created through the same event. So in short, I'm asking how do you wire an event to control a particularly dynamic button?
