I will be using .Net to communicate with a small unit that outputs data via a serial port. I have used an application that monitors the data between an application and this little box. What I see is functions such as IRP_MJ_CREATE, IRP_MJ_READ, etc. At first I thought I needed to build functions and I would send these via the serial port (a novice thought) now I see that the above functions are part of the Windows Driver Kit. So is it true that I call these functions in my code and then the underlying drivers communicate to the serial port and the approppriate data is seen at the serial port. So for .Net (VB) I need to find and use the appropriate functions and communicate to the serial port.

I have written one application which communicate with one data logger unit (temperature monitoring unit) and download records after some interval. Unit continuously send current temperature which I have to show on screen and after each one hour I have to download log (all records saved inside unit at max 1024) from unit.
Now problem is after downloading log, application get hang or what we called working in background and resume after some time. If I pause debugger in visual studio 2008 it show control at application start (sub main) with message as "application will resume here after completing execution of current function". There is nothing in output window. So how can i trace is there any events got spool or what actually application doing in background.

I've made some good progress with my first attempt at a program, but have hit another road block. I'm taking standard output (as a string) froma console CMD window (results of dsquery piped to dsget) and have found small rectangles in the output. I tried using Regex to clean the little bastards but it seems they are related to the _ (underscore), which I need to keep (to return 2000/NT logins). Odd thing is - when I copy the caharcter and paste it into VS2K10 Express it acts like a carrige return?Going to try using /U or /A CMD switch next..

I'm currently working on a project where I am transmitting data from a comm device via the serial port and resorting the raw data (in binary) to its respective ascii values. The problem I'm facing is determining the most efficient method to accomplish my goal. Essentially, I have 68 bytes coming in, the first and second bytes represent the page and packet number and the data itself ranges from 3 to 64, the remaining for my checksum.
What I am needing to do is, grab 50 consecutive bytes per variable in my array, and that is where I'm confused. I have easily pulled my 3-64 bytes and stored that data to a string. I just don't know the most efficient method to accomplish my goal. Should I write directly to file all my data, as there are like 8 pages, of 128 packet data. [Code] I can capture the the first 50 by using a for-loop easily, but what would be the preferred method to track what data chunk I've taken? The more I think about it, I think I may just want to write to file, all my data, and then just take them back to back in 50 byte chunks. Is that the most efficient method?

I would like to build inputs and outputs interface board (if you have schematics for the hardware or where I could purchase such thing) I need 9 inputs and 8 outputs, 24 volte DC for the inputs and I want to build a form in visual basic that utilizes the serial port so for example when I press Button1_Click it will make output number 1 goes high in the board and when input 9 goes high in the board label9 or Button3 will change color in the form.
So basically the IO interface and the form will only be used to energize relays and monitor these relays. I am not worrying at this moment about if this input is high make this output high but if this is possible in visual basic currently running Visual Studio 2008 Express.

I am having a little trouble receiving data via the serial port. I can send just fine. I am using Serial Port object.

i am doing a project in vb 2008 .net.during execution of the code, a different number is generated every second. the numbers are either 0,1,2,3,4, or 5. how do i send this number every second to the serial port. at the serial port i have a microcontroller connected which should accept this number and light up an LED coresponding to the number received.

I am trying to send a command through my serial port to a external device. The format of the command frame is, more or less, like this:
'0x0A 0x03 0x20 0x00 Checksum'
What I've written on my code is just this:
VB code
num_dec = &HA + &H3 + &H20 + &H0
checksum = DecToHex(num_dec) '2D
data=&HA & &H3 & &H20 & &H0
SerialPort_RFID.Write(data & checksum)
The problem is that when I stop the program on the Serial...Write line, I see that the data I sent is on integer format instead of Hex format.

I've searched in the forum thread for my needs, and I couldn't find any. So here is my problem. I need to monitor the data passing trough serial communication, between local serial port and some device with an application written in vb.netThe idea is to see the data without opening the port.For example I want to start the program, choose the serial port that I want to monitor, and then to start some other application that opens the serial port, and start to send data. Another device "answers", and I want to see the the sent and received data from the first program, and the process that opens the port.I thought that I can use the serial port event "DataReceived", but actually nothing happens. I think my approach is wrong. CHere is my code:

I'm having problem while writing data to serial port. This piece of code is meant to write all the integer numbers in a text file to the SerialPort (connected to a USB-Serial Converter) when StartButton is clicked.
