Average Certain Records And Then Do Summation In A Single Or Separate SQL Statements?
Mar 29, 2012
How do you average certain records and then do the summation in a single or separate SQL statements? For example, you want to average learner marks below 50 and the sum all marks for every learner in the table. If this needs two separate statements please help me with the averaging statement.
I would like to show a mathematical summation in a rich text box, using the standard mathematical notation that shows a Greek capital sigma, with the starting value of n below the sigma and an infinity sign above it. I have successfully done this using the code below, but I cannot get the infinity sign closer to the sigma. It looks like it is not part of the summation notation.
Does anyone have an idea how I can get the infinity sign lower? When I use a character offset to lower it, it also lowers the lines below it, so that the distance between the infinity sign and the sigma remains unchanged.
I am just starting to learn the visual basic language so i am trying to make a simple application where a user can put in it's first and last name or else the application exists.
I manage to do this fine untill i get to the point of ending one if statement and starting another in the same button..
(in the form i have button1, button2, label1, label2. Button2 is only a "quit" button)
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code]....
What happens when i run this is that i can put in the first name but then when i click yes the application closes.
I have problems figuring out how to separate a single person to display on my listbox.
I am currently working on an assignment called "Douglas Resort Reservation" and we are supposed to select a query from the combo box Guest Search. For example, when I select Barb Allen, I get the info to display properly, which is good. But, I still have a problem.
When I try to click my button 'Prepare Invoice', I want Barb Allen's info to be displayed in my listbox 'Invoice'. But, now I don't have that complete. I have a whole list of items generated when I load my whole thing from my Form Load event from the textfile RESORT.TXT. I get a whole list of items instead of individualized items.
My question for you is: "How can I get just ONE name and person's information to show up?" when I press the button 'Prepare Invoice'.[code]...

I need to connect to a SQL Server from a network drive, I'm unable to due to the security settings on the network drive and I'm unable to have these changed. Is there any other ways of connecting to this SQL Server?

I've got a form where a user enters data. When the user submits that data, it inserts a record to two separate tables via a dataset. One of the records has no problem being saved into the database (in the table it was put into), but the other record seems to temporarily be in there (according to a third form), because it exists for the duration of the application, but when I exit, and then check the database, it's not there, and it's not shown on the third form when I restart the application again either.
somehow combine the results of separate Fill queries on a single dataset?Basically, I'm trying to implement a 'Filter' function, whereby, the user can filter the records in a DataSet according to specific criteria.
I have created a class called Student, with five private variables: [code] My main form is divided into a number of different sub procedures. In one of them, I used a streamreader to take the first name, last name, and phone numbers of a list of records in a text file called PersonalInfo.txt. It seems to work just fine. [code] I have another, separate sub procedure in which I read a different text file containing the "averages" for the students. The first average from Averages.txt belongs with the first student in PersonalInfo.txt. The second average goes with the second student.. How do I add the student average information to the properties of the student records created in the previous sub procedure? [code] I realize why this wouldn't work, but I can't figure out how I could use my counter to reference a specific student.
I am using vb.net and sqlite as database. I am using below scenario to insert multiple records in database using a single query.
INSERT INTO TableName (FirstCol, SecondCol) SELECT 'First' ,1 UNION ALL SELECT 'Second' ,2 UNION ALL SELECT 'Third' ,3 [Code] .....
For less records it is working very well. But when I am inserting about 800 records at a time, executenonquery is throwing the following exception: SQLite error Too many terms in compound SELECT.
I am using datarepeater on my windows form to populate records from a temp table. I want to write query to insert records for an employee in a single row rather than multiple rows. For example: I am displaying records of one month only. so i know the definite number of columns. Normally if we use select * from Temp ' it will display and i can populate in a datagrid.
I'm working on a function to return a exponential average and there are a lot of examples of exponential moving averages but they all start with a moving average that is just the mean as a lead in to calculating the continuing moving average. I needed just a exponential average of a value set. After Googling my Bing off I still haven't seen anything so here is my attempt at a basic exponential average. Is this correct? Are there any errors? I have seen some text about adding a smoothing value to change the curve of the exponential average but not how that would be implemented.
The apostrophe is used to separate data when adding records to an Access Database data table using the "INSERT INTO" SQL statement. Having apostrophes in the data really screws things up with this new software. Is there a simple workaround? Is it possible to specify a different character? Is it possible to add data without using SQL Statements? I also noticed that the new OleDbDataAdapter Add Method generates the same SQL Error because it apparently creates an "INSERT INTO" SQL Statement.gh
I'm in a computer science class, and we are writing simple programs using Visual Basic 2008. I am really inept when it comes to this, as I have never done it before. I need to write a program that: "Asks the user for 5 numbers and computes the average. It then displays the average with an appropriate message before the average."
I have been really close with this, but I can't get the numbers to add up, then divide by 5, and display a pop up message.
I have a set of objects that I'm returning via a Linq to SQL query. I'd like to modify the query so that I return a set of objects that are combined only when one of the fields match. The relevant columns of my Products DB table are CategoryID and Quantity. I'd like to combine the fields so that if the CategoryID is identical, the Quantity fields are summed up. However, I don't just want the sum - I need an object that has all the common fields (assume all other fields are identical for the query) so it appears as only one object of type Product. Is this possible? (I'm using VB.net - but open to solutions that include database views, partial classes, etc)
but how I'm going to view the total value of the summation? I had been searching for this but most of the answers I get is for PHP. Can someone show me how to assign that total value to a variable in VB.NET?
Or teach me how to assign that total value to another table.
So i run a loop that is an iteration for array variables. for i = 1 to 1000summation = summation + array(i)next iyet for every iteration, array(i) contains a different set elements, and I need to know the sum of these elements for every iteration step. For some reason VB saves the values from previous iteration(s) and adds them to the new.The question is: how do I sum a new set of array elements for every iteration without using the older values.? Can I: dim array(number of elements as a function of something) ?
Can someone give me a site to a tutorial that will help me write a program that will generate a pattern using do while, if else statements, and do until statements. I have been using google but I can't find anything. I need to generate patterns a certain size 6 by 6 or similar such as something like a checkerboard but where the ^ symbols is there a suppose to be a blank space..
When and why would it be a good choice to keep the view of two different sets of information on the same page, and just change what's visible depending on different parameters? For example, an application I'm working on has three levels of users: Admin, Director and Project Manager. We have a Managers.aspx page which follows this flow of control:
If user is admin, load gridview list of directors with several simple CRUD-like properties. This includes a link for each director that, when clicked, will load a new gridview with several properties of all of the Project Managers belonging to the selected director. If user is director, load straight to the list of Project Managers that belong to this director, in the exact fashion as described in the second half of the "if user is admin" clause".This is all done on one Managers.aspx page. Why? What advantage does this hold? When else might this type of situation arise? Personally, this seems like a job for two separate pages. One listing the directors, and another listing the Project Managers.
I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I'm lost as how to change this string into the form (nnn) nnn-nnnn. This is what I have
I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.
I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.
I have a few forms that have a lot of really intensive updating along with a great deal of user interface (text boxes, button clicking etc) Is it possible to open a separate form as a separate UI thread from the start up form that called it to "show" or open or whatever the new method might be?
