So in this gridview, there is a column for status and I want to have a drop down list with Pass, Pending, Fail appear when the edit button is clicked. These values are already in a table, so I need to somehow bind from this table to each ddl for every row. Here is the column from the gridview. As you can see, I would like to just have a label showing when not in edit mode, and a ddl when the edit button is pressed
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="During Production Status" SortExpression="DuringProductionStatus">
<EditItemTemplate>

I'm populating a custom dropdown list control on the fly that's tied to data grid using VB .NET 2008. The form will display all the manufactures when the edit button on the data grid is selected.
The dropdown I created works fine. However, when I try to populate the drop down with the respected manufacture values from the database, I only get a value of "System.Data.DataRowView" that being populated in the dropdown list as opposed to my values from the database.
Here's the basic code I use to first create and populate the drop down control:
<asp:DropDownList ID="Manufacturedd" Runat="server" DataSource='<%# m_ItrackerData.Tables("Misc_Manufacture") %>' SelectedIndex='<%# getSelectedManufacture(DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.Manufacture"))
%>'></asp:DropDownList>

I am a newbie of using a vb.net. And I am eager to know everything around. I have a problem that seems hard to find for. I would like to retrieve data from database using drop down list, and select only the fields that i want to retrieve from it.
DesignationTable From my table i like to display only two in my drop down list

Is it possible to drop an MS Access Database using Oledb in VB.Net?
View 2 Repliesi have the project as below...And i am putting the code over here.Imports System.Data.SqlClient Imports System.Data 'We have to add this line, its mandatory, if u dnt add this line and start declaring the variable "Dim dt As DataTable" Then u will get the error.

I have a couple drop down lists connecting to an Access database. I can get the first drop down list to populate with the departments I have listed under "dept" in my access file. After someone selected a "dept" i want the second drop down list to populate with the names ("name"). Right now the second dropdown list is showing up but isn't poplulating. What am I doing wrong?!? I would like to include a third dropdown list for another selection with a button to then show things from the specific selections. Right now, I just need to figure out how to populate a list upon another lists' selections.
View 1 RepliesI want a to create a combo box that gets the selectable items from a table and when I save the form I want the selected item saved to a different table. I'm sure this is simple I'm not a database wiz and still very much a newbie.
View 4 RepliesI have a few drop down lists that I'd like to populate from a table in an SQL database. I tried setting it in the DataBindings section of Properties but I guess that doesn't work.
View 11 RepliesI have a drop down box that I want bound to "TicketBindingSource - InvoiceStatus". However I want to have the text bound only. The choices I would like to specify from my own list (Invoiced, Needs Invoice...) When the user clicks on a choice I want it to update the database. [code]...
View 22 RepliesBackground - I'm trying to populate a drop down list with state information from a database. I'd like the full state name to be the option and the state abbreviation to be the value. Example:
<option value="AL">ALABAMA</option>
Current Progress - The full state names and abbreviations already exist in the DB. I've successfully populated the DDL with full state names from the DB. Here's the code I've used to do this (minus stuff I've deemed irrelevant).Model Context (generated from template):
Partial Public Class BrokerCRMEntities
Public Property States() As DbSet(Of State)
End Class
State Model (generated from template):
Partial Public Class State
[Code]...
Question - In addition to populating full state names like I've done above, I'd also like to populate the value of the select options in the same DDL with the state abbreviations in my DB/model. How is this done?
I am putting together two programs... basically one to enter data into a sql server 2000 database, and one to view the entered data and modify some fields. The data-entry part works well, but the second part is giving me some problems.ince the second part should really be a simple program, I created a DataGridView of my sql server table via drag&drop (just pulled the table from the data sources). Now I need to save back any changes to the DB. The part giving me problems is the OleDBCommandBuilder:
cBuilder = New OleDbCommandBuilder(FteuStoerungsmeldungAuftragTableAdapter)
the following code allows me to drag and drop the data, so i can reorder the list box. However, is there are way of seeing the line across the list box where it will be moved to?

I know how to cut off characters at the end of a string using vb script, which uses the LEFT(string, #) syntax, however, how do i do this using vb.net?
and my second question, I have a string being sent into a drop down menu that gets the data pulled from an access database using a data source control. How do I format it so say, it only shows the first 100 characters of that string in the dropdown?
I'm doing drag and drop from a list view. In my starting list view's ItemDrag event handler, I say (amomgst other things):
data.SetFileDropList(coll)
data.SetText(CurrentFolder, TextDataFormat.Text)
sender.DoDragDrop(data, DragDropEffects.Copy Or DragDropEffects.Move)
CurrentFolder being a string that holds the name of the folder represented by the list view. In the target control's DragDrop event handler, CType(e.Data, DataObject).GetText evaluates to what CurrentFolder was when ItemDrag was executed. But: e.Data.GetDataPresent(TextDataFormat.Text) always evaluates to FALSE.If I replace "TextDataFormat.Text" by "DataFormats.Text" (in both places) the result is the same. I am asking this although my code does what I want, because I feel that I should not call CType(e.Data, DataObject).GetText before I have established that TextData is actually present. So how do I properly check for the presence of the text data.
I am looking to find the best way to do the following: Filter data based on the drop down filters, as long as I am within the same product category (e.g. toys, puzzles, etc...), but in different web forms (product grid and product detail). So if I select toys under $25, I need the filter to the toys in a grid format, but if I click to view the detail I need the filter information so I can filter the related items display.Display certain filters depending on the product category.Right now I believe that if I build a user control and session variables that I should be able to accomplish this.
EDIT: Right now I am using the page_load event to update the data and would like to avoid AJAX for right now.
How can i perform a drag and drop in the data grid?
I am trying to make a program that can swap row to row or column to row (vice versa) contents.
i have an application integrating the an API (autotask web services). I get the data by using a XML query opposed to a SQL query. I'm trying to figure out how to fill a dropdown list with the returned data. Here is my
Dim AccountID As Integer = 29783925
' Query returns Account details for account with the ID AccountID
Dim strQuery As String = "<queryxml><entity>Account</entity>" & _

I got a system which i want to insert, delete, update the data into my database and the data from database will be display using datagrid. The below is the coding for one of my button, delete.
Private Sub btnDelete_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDelete.Click
Try
btnSearchEmpNo.Enabled = False[code].....
Now I wanna set when user click on this button to delete a employee (for example) then the datagrid that i have in my application will not show the data of the deleted employee but in the background, the employee haven't been deleted from database. The employee only will be deleted from database when the user click on SAVE button.I know this application have to use RowState but how?
What I want to happen is that the button from my system will remove the previous data from database and then insert new data to database from text file. Im done with inserting new data. The thing is that I dont how to control or where to put the Delete Command from my code.

I have a VB .NET (VS 2008) application which allows the user to drag and drop a xls file onto the form and a DataGridView fills with the xls sheet data. The user than can apply changes to the data or add entries. Data integrity is checked during the load into the DataGridView (duplicates are removed and invalid entries are filtered out). After doing all this the user can click a button and the data is uploaded to a SQL server (2008) DB. I have a primary key set up (row number) and I have a compound key in the SQL table.
It is all working beautifully. Now here is my question:
I want to check for duplicate entries (between SQL server and DataGridView data) before the data is uploaded and commited to the table. What would be the most efficient way to that?
I've got a couple of drop down lists for languages. I bind them to a language list that comes from a query. Then the fields are also bound to the row in the DB they relate to. I have several panels with the language drop down - each "tied" to a different table in my DB. When I call up different records on the same panel the drop downs immediately "set to the position" of that rows language in the list. But when I call up another panel - tied to another database table - I see that language in the drop down.

Is it possible to reorder the elements of a drop down list (combobox) via drag and drop? For example, when the list is dropped down, I want the user to be able to drag the items up or down to reorder them. I tried this (and some google searching) but I'm wondering if its just not possible:
Private Sub cmbClassLists_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles cmbClassLists.MouseDown
If cmbClassLists.DroppedDown And Not cmbClassLists.SelectedIndex = -1 Then

ComboBox drop up instead of drop down..i want to defualt for a particular drop down box to work this way how can i do it.
View 6 RepliesI have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
I have code on log in form but it only get the latest data on username and password column on my database
Here is my code
Public Class Users
Dim MyLogIn As New myRecords
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles
[CODE]...
This is my connection:
Imports MySql.Data
Imports MySql.Data.MySqlClient
Module myconnect

This is my record:
Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports MySql.Data
Imports MySql.Data.MySqlClient

This program is very difficult for me, but I must get threw it or I cannot finish... What I am doing is making a Database of foreign Languages with the spelling of the words and the pronounciation inside the database... The USER enters a paragraph of words into the translator textbox and pushed translate. The program has a DATABANK of words with the phonetic spellings and matches the word, then translates to phonetics. The problem is that new words keep appearing inside the language. So I incorporated a Database of 2 fields

When I am developing an application and I use the 'Data Source' tab to create a database, will that database be automatically created when I use the software on another machine?
View 1 RepliesI am sitting with a situation that I have to combined (3 years) for 26 site of 29000 database files where there is 1 table in each data base called RECDATA, I need to combined all that data Into one database file called RECDATA.
For example there is a database called DB1 with a REDATA table inside it, and then DB2 with a RECDATA table inside it, DB3 with a RECDATA table inside it est. So I need to put all the Recdata into 1 Database file, or to copy all the RECDATA from all the database files to 1 RECDATA they all have the same columns All I need is to get all that data into 1 RECDATA table.
The program where this database comes from is a voicerecording system creating a new database every day. There is 1 database just for indexing (to view the recordings) and then the daily database is where the recording lies in, that Colum is called RECFILE. I will give you a example of the 2 database.
I have a report made in Crystal Reports XI. The report is generated and exported to PDF in visual basic script using COM interface. Generally everything is running smoothly, but in one case generation breaks with error: Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code 9421]
Database used is MSSQL 2005 connected over ODBC to CR XI. When I am opening report with exactly the same parameters in Designer, everything works fine.It looks like it is data related, but it is hard to trace since the whole report is pretty sophisticated. Anyway I spent half a day on crawling over Dr. Google and it seems that he has no clue what might be an issue.
