How do I concatenate a string in a asp.net gridview boundfield? I only want to show a "..." after a set number of characters that comeback from a Typed Data Set. Whats the best way to do this?
View 2 RepliesI wanted to have the value of my gridview boundfield so I did this.SelectedID = objGridView.Rows(0).Cells(4).Text.ToString..At first this seemed to work. I played around a little created a hyperlinkfield wanted to get that value but got an empty string. After some looking around it turned out I could not get it as easily as I could with a boundtextfield. No problem. But here comes my problem , now all of a sudden my line of code to retrieve the value from the selectedId does not work anymore ( at least I'm getting empty strings back ).
I've build and rebuild my gridview but to no avail. I'm flabbergasted and don't get it why it doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have an idea what's happening or have a solution to this problem. I'm seeing this in my item value "In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user"
I would like to add a property to the BoundField control that will change rendering as show below.

Should become

I have the same problem as this poster, however I am using a .net gridview and would like render my html to use the fix offered here.Using CSS to create table cells of a specific width with no word wrapping. EDIT I think I may be going about this all wrong, maybe you don't change the rendering by extending the BoundField, but rather add the properties to the boundfield then change the way the gridview renders its fields based on the properties of those fields.Which also leads me down the path of control adapters,

I have a filename in a string. I want to split the given string into 2 (1 is filename without extension, 2 is only extension) strings. Then add _dev to the end of first string and concatenate with 2nd one.
ex: Dim name as string="abc.txt"
Dim finalName as string
The finalName should be like this "abc_dev.txt"
I am supporting an application, which uses lots of String concatenations and I believe this is the cause of a memory leak which eventually causes an OutOfMemory exception. Please have a look at the code below:

I believe there are nine Strings in memory at line ten as String is an immutable object, but only one reference to the String Test1 that contains: "Hello my name is Joe Blogs what is yours?". My question is; are all of these Strings picked up by the garbage collector when they go out of scope? i.e. when the sub routine finishes running. I seem to have a memory leak and am thinking that I should really be using a StringBuilder object.
Here is what im trying to do. I have a loop and trying to concatenate it to produce the string. For whatever reason im getting test1, test2, etc instead of the variable equals to. What i am trying to do is get the value test1, etc.... from the concatenating test & cstr(a)

When it is set to true, the data column can be accessed with no problem. Any suggestions as to how to correct this? I have looked through the documentation, text books, and I have not found anything that gave me any clue as to what the problem could be. I thought that the property was just applied to the column, not that it would remove the column from being accessible.

Once the counter reaches its maximum value, and the last picture is displayed, the counter should be reset to zero or one depending on how the first image file has been name. Also a static counter variable should be incremented in the time routine. what I have so far -- I know what I have to do; however, I just do not know how to code this properly.. Right now I have this going thru a button procedure but it needs to go through a timer.

I have a datagrid and one of the columns show the size of a file.
Ex:
87 bytes
978 kb
500 Mb
766 Gb
If i get the number of bytes, calculate the correct value (in kb, Mb or Gb) to show as you can see above and add the value on the cell, it works but when i try to sort the column it does not work. It get's the wrong order.How can i format a column on a grid view so the sorting works correctly?

I added this template field to a gridview column and need to access the value, an email address, from the column in code behind. I initially added a DataKeyNames, but this only pulls the first record value. It does not seem to select the value for each record when running through a loop.I would like to add the email to a label so that I can perhaps use a FindControl statement, unless someone knows of an easier way. I cannot get the email hyperlink to show up in the label. Works fine without the label tag except for not being able to read the email address.
