Asp.net - Extending The BoundField Class To Add <span> Tag Inside <td> Tag Rendered By Gridview?

Feb 10, 2012

I would like to add a property to the BoundField control that will change rendering as show below.

<td>My Bound Text></td>
Should become
<td><span>My Bound Text</span></td>

This is all I have so far...

Public Class BoundField
Inherits System.Web.UI.WebControls.BoundField
Dim _ellipse As Boolean[code]....

I have the same problem as this poster, however I am using a .net gridview and would like render my html to use the fix offered here.Using CSS to create table cells of a specific width with no word wrapping. EDIT I think I may be going about this all wrong, maybe you don't change the rendering by extending the BoundField, but rather add the properties to the boundfield then change the way the gridview renders its fields based on the properties of those fields.Which also leads me down the path of control adapters,

Getting Value Of Boundfield In A Gridview

Jun 21, 2010

I wanted to have the value of my gridview boundfield so I did this.SelectedID = objGridView.Rows(0).Cells(4).Text.ToString..At first this seemed to work. I played around a little created a hyperlinkfield wanted to get that value but got an empty string. After some looking around it turned out I could not get it as easily as I could with a boundtextfield. No problem. But here comes my problem , now all of a sudden my line of code to retrieve the value from the selectedId does not work anymore ( at least I'm getting empty strings back ).

I've build and rebuild my gridview but to no avail. I'm flabbergasted and don't get it why it doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have an idea what's happening or have a solution to this problem. I'm seeing this in my item value "In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user"

C# - Extending The Base Class?

Mar 5, 2010

When you create a webpage in ASP.net, the codebase inherits System.Web.UI.Page Now when I extend the page object to check for SessionExpired for example, I create a new class and inherit from system.web.ui.page, and overwrite some functions. The problem then is that on each page, I have to replace system.web.ui.page with my custompage class. Is there a way to extend a class by adding methods or modifying its methods directly (e.g. add the sessionExpired check to System.Web.UI.Page) ?I'm using .NET 2.0

VB - Extending The XMLElement - Create An XML Database For A Class

Oct 11, 2010

I have to create an XML database for a class I'm taking, but I'm running into some problems. I'm trying to pack my data directly into the DOM using some classes I created and derived from the XMLDocument class, I'm trying to do it this way so I can easily manipulate the entries while the document is in memory and save them back to a file without having to mess around too deeply with the XMLDocument class. I'm running into some problems however when I try to typecast the elements I get from calling

Code:

XMLDocument.DocumentElement.Item

I assume that this is happening due to my derived class not being pushed into the DOM when a file is loaded, because it works just fine if I enter the data manually in code.

Code:
Option Explicit On

[CODE].............

Other than writing my own XMLReader I have no idea how to accomplish this, does anyone have an idea how I could go around doing this(other than writing my own XMLReader).

Inside The Service Class, Declare A Class Variable Named Started?

May 8, 2012

Create a class named Service. Inside the Service class, declare a class variable named Started. The datatype of this variable is Boolean.Public Class Service Dim started as Boolean End Class Create a class named Server. Inside the Server class, declare a dynamic array that can contain elements of the type Service.(Note: For convenience, both the array and the variable Started can be accessible from a client program that creates an instance of Server and Service respectively)

Create a constructor for the Service class. When the constructor is executed, it will set the value of the class variable Started to True. Create two new classes: WebServer and DatabaseEngine. Both of these classes inherit from the class Service. Inside the Service class, declare a Sub procedure (method) named Terminate. This method should display the following text Service stopping in a message box when executed. This method can be overridden in classes that inherit from Service class.

Inside both the WebServer and DatabaseEngine class, override the method Terminate inherited from their base class Service. Both methods should first call the base class Terminate method. The messages Web server stopping and Database engine stopping should also be displayed in a message box when the Terminate method for the WebServer and DatabaseEngine are called respectively. These messages should only be displayed if the Started variable inherited from their base class is not equal to False.

Inside the Server class, declare a method named Shutdown. This method does not return any value. When executed, it will call the Terminate method for each of the Service instances (if any) in the arrServices
array. You should call the Terminate method within a For Each loop that loops through the elements of the arrServices array.

In the Sub Main method, create an instance of the class Server. Set the size of the arrServices array in
your Server instance to contain 2 elements. Create first a WebServer instance and then a DatabaseEngine
instance into this array. Call the Shutdown method from your Server instance.

Handle An Event Raised In Class Inside Own Class?

Apr 14, 2009

I have a "partial" class in VB.NET. Half of it is auto generated by a code generation tool. That half implements INotifyPropertyChanged, so any properties in that part of the partial class raise the PropertyChanged event. In my "custom" part of the class, I declare another property that depends on one of the properties in the auto-generated side. Therefore, when that auto-generated property changes, I also want to raise a PropertyChanged event on my custom property that depends on it.

If I go into the generated part of the class and raise the event there, that will get overwritten if I ever re-generate that part, so I don't want to do that. I would rather add an event handler in my side of the partial class that checks if the generated property changed, and if so, raise another event for my custom property.

[Code]...

I'm assuming it's because normally you'd use the WithEvents keyword to tell the compiler that you're subscribing to events from that object. I don't have a clue how to do this inside of the class that's actually raising the event, or if that's even possible.

How To Edit GridView Inside Of Modal Popup

I have a gridview that appears in a modal popup that is generated dynamically and is bound to a dynamically generated SqlDataSource. I did this to hopefully take advantage of the gridview's automatic editing capabilities. My problem is that when the edit button is clicked the modalpopup closes due to a full postback in spite of the fact that my gridview is in an update panel. I looked at solutions here and here but neither fixed the problem.
