.net - Expose Methods Of Nested Class?

Apr 23, 2012

I have a Public Class called "ClientConnection". Inside that class, I have a Public ReadOnly Property called "FileTransfers(ByVal TransferID)". The property returns an object of the class "FileTransfer". All methods in FileTransfer are set to public.

VS is able to discover the methods inside the parent class "ClientConnection". How would I expose the methods inside the sub-class "FileTransfer" that is returned by the property "FileTransfers(ByVal TransferID)"?

Public Class ClientConnection
'irreverent code removed
Public ReadOnly Property FileTransfers(ByVal TransferID As Integer)

Expose Methods And Properties Of User Controls Contained In A Collection?

Mar 9, 2009

at some points, I need to call the same method on those controls (ex. user presses the clear button on the big control, I want to call the clear f(x) on each of the controls)I thought to toss the controls in a collection, and then be able to handle them something like this:
nextturns out, and I should have realized, methods and properties of controls are not exposed when treated this way. The only thing that can be seen is the stuff that the base class (control, I guess) has.

Making Class Methods Instead Of Instance Methods In .NET?

Mar 29, 2010

I am not sure how clear my question is by the title, but I am trying to make Class methods instead of Instance methods in Visual Basic that way I don't have to waste memory and code creating temporary objects to execute methods that don't need instance variables.

I am not sure if you can do that in VB but I know you can in Objective-C by using either a "+" or "-" sign in front of the method declaration. And in C++ (at least I think, I can't remember) you put the static keyword or const keyword in front of the function. How would I do this in VB if it is possible? Or should I just make a separate set of functions that are not members of a class?

Transactions - Expose Private Fields Using A Partial Class?

Nov 12, 2010

I am trying to implement transactions across multiple TableAdapters in VB.NET (using Visual Studio 2010) by extending the partial class as described in the following examples:

http://blah.winsmarts.com/2006/06/18/the-definitive-tableadapters--transactions-blog-post.aspx
madprops.org/blog/typed-datasets-and-sqltransaction/
stackoverflow.com/questions/2342289/net-tableadapter-to-dataadapter

However, when I attempt to expose any of the private fields created by the designer they are underlined in the editor with the following error:

'_adapter' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection
level.

Searching this site as well as google has not revealed anything useful, but perhpas I'm searching the wrong keywords.

Here is the code in MyDataset.vb

Way To Make A Value Accessible Only To Parent Of A Nested Class

Jun 24, 2009

In general, according to the OOP paradigm, my understanding of encapsulation basically says:

-If a member is private, it can only be accessed by the class.
-If a member is protected, it can only be accessed by the base class and any derived classes.
-If a member is public, it can be accessed by anyone.

If I have a nested class, can I declare a property to be accessible only to that class and the parent class it's nested within? For example:[code]In the example, I cannot directly access myNestedObject.myInt or myNestedObject.myDbl from an instance of ContainerClass if those members are Private or Protected. But suppose I don't want to make them Public, because then they are TOO exposed: they can be altered from anywhere, not just within a Container Class object. Declaring them Friend would still be too weak as that would allow them to be altered from anywhere within the application.

C# - Retrieve Internal Member Of Nested Class By Reflection

Jun 1, 2012

I know that the MenuItem class contains an internal class named MenuItemData, which contains itself an internal member named onDrawItem. Given a MenuItem, I want to retrieve the object corresponding to the member onDrawItem. But all I manage to do is to get the FieldInfo, not the object itself.

Here is my code:
Dim obj As Object
Dim fi As FieldInfo
Dim item as System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem
Dim mType As System.Type
[Code] .....

When reaching the last line, I get an error saying something like that (it's traduced):
The field 'onDrawItem' défined in type 'System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem+MenuItemData' is not a field of the target object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem. I don't know what object to pass to the GetValue function on the last line. My goal is to remove the base eventHandler of the menuItem, named DrawItem. See this post and the function RemoveClickEventin the accepted answer for a better understanding.

.net - Class Definition Properties Or Methods?

Aug 4, 2010

I have a class definition that I've seen other define properties that return collections of objects.

Public Property GetAllAdults() as Adults End Property I made the argument that this should be a method in the class, because it doesn't define an attribute of the class, and could not be extended with parameters. Is/Are there reasons why this should be defined as a property vs. a function?

Add Methods To An Entity Mapped Class?

What I want to do is add some methods to the Job class. The Job class is defined in the LINQ to SQL classes .dbml file. So, in order to add methods, or anything else to the Job class what should I do?

Should I create a partial class named Job and define the methods in there? Will that then get mixed in properly? Not sure how to proceed on this one.

Derived Class Shared Methods?

Nov 3, 2010

I have a function that 2 derived classes use, but the third doesn't, would it make sense to just leave it in the base class, even though one of the 3 derived classes doesn't use it?The only way I could think of disallowing the third class is to basically create an intermediate class that is derived of the base, then the 2 that use the common function are derived off the second class.

Is it possible to prevent the 3rd class from using the function, while letting the two that are supposed to use it, use it?Does that just seem to go overboard, I mean as long as I don't "try" to call the function from the 3rd class, it shouldn't be a problem, I just was interested if there was a way to prevent it all together without a lot of hassle.
