I'm trying to make a simple game tree.Previously I used nested loops:

I have a section of code that deletes a lot of columns, one at at time, based on conditions that arise. Currently it does this:
objrpt.objXLSheet.Columns(col) _
.EntireColumn.Delete(Excel.XlDeleteShiftDirection.xlShiftToLeft)
There are so many of these, that I'm getting tired of looking at these lines so I want to curry the references to the Excel stuff.I tried:
Dim DelCol As Func(Of Integer) = Function(col As Integer) _
objrpt.objXLSheet.Columns(col) _
.EntireColumn.Delete(Excel.XlDeleteShiftDirection.xlShiftToLeft)
but that won't compile, giving me the error: "Nested function does not have the same signature as delegate 'System.Func(Of Integer)'. Ah forget it. I see that I'm trying to call a method from a function. I guess that won't work.Wait, I'm now trying it another way. I first defined a function:
Private Function DeleteColumn(ByRef objrpt As ExcelReport, ByVal col As Integer) As Object
DeleteColumn = Nothing
Dim objrng As Excel.Range
[code]....
Now the error message is a little different:
"Nested function does not have the same signature as delegate 'System.Func(Of Object)'.
I have this H file in C, which includes[CODE]...

This error may be a bug in the CLR or in the unsafe or non-verifiable portions of user code. Common sources of this bug include user marshaling errors for COM-interop or PInvoke, which may corrupt the stack.How do I translate it correctly ?
How can we declare a thread for function in vb.net Actually i have to declare nine functions which takes the oracle command as input parameter and return multiple values ( return types will includes datatime,string and a datatable ) . So to return multiple values from function , i have declared a structure and returning as a structure.but now the issue is !!! : As the thread is a void type and doesnt accept return types which function returns ... Now how can i declare thread for a function which accepts and returns arguments.

I'm trying to use a nested multi-line lambda Function in VB.NET and am getting an error. Here's what my code looks like:

I'm fairly new to learning visual basic. I'm trying to create a program that dynamically generates a EXE file that performs mouse movements and keystrokes. To dynamically generate EXE files, I am using the CODEDOM API for Visual Basic.

Public Function manyarrays(ByVal ParamArray ints() As Integer,ByVal strs() As String) End Function But it is error . How can i fix it ?
View 3 RepliesI notice in the MSDN documentation that there are multiple ways to declare a reference to a function in an external DLL from within a VB.NET program. The confusing thing is that MSDN claims that you can only use the DllImportAttribute class with Shared Function prototypes "in rare cases", but I couldn't find the explanation for this statement, while you can simply use the Declare keyword instead.
View 3 RepliesI have the following statement, I want to turn it into a Public Shared Function :
If isEmployee Then
Dim employeeInstance As New Employee
employeeInstance = GetEmployeeInstanceByUserId(userId)
[Code]....
Public Shared Function GetWorkerInstance(Byval isEmployee as Boolean) As ...(not sure what to write here)...
There two possible return Type. I'm not sure what I should declare for the function return type.
When I declare two datatables and fill them both from a datatable returned by a function in class, that when i filter the one it seems to filter the other aswell?
For example:
I declare the datatable and initiate my class:
Dim DatatableOne As New Datatable
Dim DatatableTwo As New Datatable
Dim MyClass As New MyClass
I then call the function that returns a datatable and apply it to datatable1 and 2 Then fill two DataGrids with the table:
DatatableOne = MyClass.GetTable()
DatatableTwo = MyClass.GetTable()
DatatableOne.DefaultView.RowFilter = "Name = 'Tom'"
[CODE]...
For some reason i don't understand but both grids end up with the filtered data?
i want to know how to use vbscript to declare the function that handles the button onclick event or set a function that handles all button onlick event! both will do i.e) ihave a function
"sub xxx()
end sub"
and i generate the buttons using vbscript. i can declare the button id, text without problem.
--dim obj as new button()
obj.id="aaa"
obj.text="ooo"
the above lines work just fine but when i write obj.onclick = "xxx", it doesn't work. by making settings on the function to handle all button onlick event is also acceptible for me!
I'm trying to convert this VB.NET / C# Declaration into a VB6 one, having trouble. (included is C# version, converting to VB.NET not a problem)
[DllImport("urlmon.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Ansi)]
private static extern int UrlMkSetSessionOption(
int dwOption,

Tried google this for 2 hours but it was useless [anybody else notice their results relevance becoming incredibly worse since last algo change?]...
so far i got
code
For Each item As Reflection.FieldInfo In GetType(NameSpace.ClassWithNestedClasses).GetFields
rtfAppend(item.Name & ":" & Tab & item.GetValue(Me))
Next
For Each item As Reflection.PropertyInfo In GetType(NameSpace.ClassWithNestedClasses).GetProperties()
[code]...
which gets me the simple string vars and properties of my top class, but how can i apply this to loop through all sub classes and get there vars and props?
In Visual Studio 2008 I am using :Private Declare Function BlockInput Lib "user32" (ByVal fBlock As Long) As Long To stop input from occuring during a search-replace operation.
BlockInput(True) ' do not allow input during search and destroy
Dim cursorIcon As Cursor
cursorIcon = Cursor
Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
Then setting it to false at the end of the operation. It did not work, so I thought maybe it was because I was calling it from a child window, so I created a function in the mainwindow, and ran it like this:
FrmMain.BlockFrmMainInput()With these functions is the Main window:
[Code]...
It did not solve the problem. I thought maybe it was because I was running under the debugger, so I tried compiling and running it debugger-free, but that did not do any better. I am still getting input when I double-click the mouse on either form.
I want to make an numerical integration method with takes in an analytic function and integrate it over a specific interval. For the numerical integration procedure I want to use some procedures in nr.com. The problem is that these are programmed in C++ and they uses functors to pass a function to the integration method. How can I do this in VB 2010?
I want to initialize the function (i.e. set a=1,b=0 for function y(x)=a*x+b) and then pass the function to the integration method. Then when the integration method call the function it only calls the function with one parameter (i.e. x since a,b is already set)
What is the best way to do this in VB2010?I want to make a general integration method where I can pass any single valued function and integration limits.
I have just started using VB, and from what I have found so far it seems like the tools you have is
- to us a delegate for the function
- to use a lambda expression for the function
- send a pointer/adressOf
- to create a function class/structure and submit this to the function
As for now I am most inclined to create a function-class. But I am not really sure how.F.ex. I make different classes for each "uniqe function" I want to integrate, but how can I pass them to the integration function when I need to specify the argument type in the integration-function-call?This seems like a basic problem which applies to many Math operations, so I think it would be very useful to clarify this.
I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
Here's my call:

I have an outer listview and inside its itemtemplate an inner listview. Each has its own SQLDataSource. A Id field from the outerlistview works as a select parameter for the second listview.
When stepping through with the debugger it works perfectly, unfortunately the rendered page only contains data from the outer listview. It appears the databinding of the outer listview fires and renders the page (including the inner listview) before the codebehind can provide a where parameter to the second listview. The aspx page is below.

I am using nested datalists to display hierarchical data. In the nested datalist i want to be able to bind to a property that belongs to the object that the parent datalist is bound to.

I have an XML file which is a multitable nested xml file (.Tables.Count returned 12 tables). I would like to have all of the xml contents in one table or, if not, select different columns from these different tables (that are stored in XML) and put them in one table. As I understood Datagridview only allows only one table at a time. Is there any way to create a new datatable by joining exsting tables from XML?
View 2 RepliesI have been trying to read the cd toc in one go from the API, I can read it OK with a single byte array, but I can't find a way to fill the formatted arrays

I've a large table of Items and I need to organize them by Category, then by Year and then by Month.Item has CategoryID and Dated properties.I got this far:
Dim Items = From Item In DB.Items _
Group By CategoryID = Item.CategoryID _
Into Categories = Group _
Order By CategoryID
But where I put the:
Group By Year = Year(Item.Dated)
and the
Group By Month = Month(Item.Dated)
The final result should be something like this:
For Each Category in Categories
For Each Year in Category.Years

I am new to this forum so please be patient with me :-) My problem is how to bring a nested XML structure into a single DataGridView. The XML looks like this:

All I would like to do is populating a DataGridView with 4 columns (Name, Age, Language and Artwork). Each of which containing its appropriate value whereas the latter will contain all pictures... See what I mean?
I'm working with a database that includes a table called MenuItems. The table is hierarchical, so an item can have child items under it. A record's ParentID corresponds to the ID of the parent record, or the ParentID can be 0 if the item is on the top level.What I'm trying to do is create a VB.Net application to populate a TreeView with the records in my MenuItems table, using the recursive function ListSubMenus in the code below:
Code:
Private Sub ListSubMenus(ByVal ptvnParent As TreeNode, ByVal plngParentID As Long)
Dim strSQL As String

I can't seem to find a lot on how to use events in nested objects. I suspect that I should have access to the events in the nested objects through intellisense if I had done things right. I have many objects with 50 or so properties and I would like to access them with out adding handlers for each one and additional events in parent objects.
Example:
Public Class Form1
Dim WithEvents myCombinedClass As New CombinedClass

I am constructing some XML using XML literals. I have a function which returns an XElement.
Function RootElementFormattingFunction() as XElement
Return <Root Data="foo"/>
End Function
In reality it is a bit more complicated than that, but it is called from several places. Now I have linq sequence which generates a set of nodes which I want to make children of the XElement returns

I am working on a project that requires that I use nested case blocks. However, I am not quite sure what this looks like. And for whatever reason I'm having a hell of a time trying to find the answer through google. Are nested case blocks like nested if blocks? Or are they something completely different? More information on the project can be given if needed.
View 10 RepliesI have a couple of controls that are set to runat="server", but are showing up as "not declared" in the vb code behind. They are not being setup in the designer.vb file at all, even if the design.vb is re-created.
The only thing that I can think might be causing this is that the controls are inside of a custom control. The code looks something like this (it has been modified because of NDA):
<abc:MyCustomControl>
<additionalItems>
<asp:CheckBox id="coolCheckboxOfPower" runat="server" Text="Triple Rainbow!">
[Code]....
So using the example above, if I try to use coolCheckboxOfPower in my vb page, it says it is not declared.
It has been suggested to me that asp controls cannot be nested. Is this true, and if so, how do I get around that?
