.net - HttpWebRequest Keeps Socket In TIME WAIT?

May 31, 2011

I'm having a hard time figuring out while a HttpWebRequest in .NET 4.0 creates a socket connection for each request but isn't able to close the socket afterwards.When I execute e.g 50 HttpWebRequests I see 50 TCP socket connections in the WAIT state in netstat.

Dont Get Any Data From Socket When Data Should Be There And No Exeptions Raised, Connection Is Open. Using DataAvailable To Wait For Data

Mar 24, 2011

I have a problem reading data from an RFID-reader. I connect to the reader by tcp and wait for DataAvailable to be true, then reading the data until I got a end of data character. Then I just go back and waiting for a new DataAvailable. This is done in a own thread for the function.

There seems to be some kind of timeout, If I don't got any data in a couple of minutes, then it just sits there in the do/loop waiting for DataAvailable. I hold the card to the RFID reader, it beeps, but there is no data available. I don't get any exeptions, and the information says that the clientsocket is still connected. Are there anything more I can check?

If I put the card to the reader in a minute-interval it seems as this will never occur. So 2-3 minutes idle:ing seems to do this.

Here are my code to read data from the socket, I have taken away some irrelevant code:

Sub test(ByVal ip As String, ByVal port As Integer)
' this sub is meant to run forever

Closing Socket Each Time?

May 5, 2009

In my small P2P Chat application I am listening on a port for messages and if some message arrives and pending, I am accepting it to a TcpClient and reading the data from the stream, writing back a "Received" response and closing it. This is in a loop with a sleep interval of 500 secs and runs in a separate thread. Is it a good practice to close the socket each time I receive and process a message or should I keep it alive till the chat box is closed on other side?

I am asking this because, when I do a "NETSTAT" on command line while chatting with someone, there is one entry per message that arrives locally. and many ports get to TIME_WAIT status, even if it is understood that they will be removed after 2 mins by the system.

Communications :: Real Time Data Collection From Socket And Storing In Excel

Jan 5, 2012

I m into automation development of FMCG products using Micro-controllers. I get real time data Barcode 2D from TCP/IP connection. My task is to compare the result do some Computation with them and Store the incoming Barcode and results into a Excel sheet in a folder. I m successful with the basic working. Am currently working at slow speed of 1 barcode(22 char info) per second from the TCP/IP data (barcode scanner). Now, comes the real issue. I need to process atleast 5 barcodes per sec ( <200ms per process). I m partially successful with 3 Barcode per second(300 ms per process). so, thats like 300ms per processing. I need to achieve less than 200ms for entire processing. I have used threads and timers. but I m unable to achieve. Seems like storing in Excel takes more than 250ms. Since i come from micro controllers background 1msec is a lotta time to process for me. I m not sure how much time does it take and trust me i find it difficult to guage the time here.

Inserting A Wait - So That Animation Has Time To Play And Stop Then Rest Of Code Will Display Other Picture And Numbers

Nov 4, 2011

I have the following

Public Class Form1
Private GIFAnim As Image = Image.FromFile("c:cointosscointoss_ani.gif")
Private frames As Integer
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

[CODE]...

Now I would like to put a wait in after the line:

frames = GIFAnim.GetFrameCount(Imaging.FrameDimension.Time)
ImageAnimator.Animate(GIFAnim, AddressOf paintFrame)

This is so that the animation has time to play and stop and then the rest of the code will display the other picture and the numbers. Is this possible? I tried timer and sleep but I cant get them to work.

Identify Connection Lost Between Socket Server And Socket Client?

May 21, 2011

I wrote a Socket Client which will send the Socket Server some data and get some response from Server. This process will be running once in every 2 seconds.

Now what I need to know is How we can identify the connection lost between Server and Client?

I need this to be implemented in the Client side. If there is no connection then Client should automatically close the connection. Once the connection with the server is available in the next attempt it should connect automatically.

WebBrowser Control Is In A Wait State : How To Kill The Wait

May 27, 2009

While navigating to a series of sites at one site the WebBrowser control's DocumentCompleted EVENT is tripped and no other recorded Browser events occur after that. When this happens the hour glass cursor indicates the browser is waiting. From this point it take 120 to 250 seconds of wall clock time before the browser resumes. I am looking for a way to force an abnormal termination without destroying the control. I have tried "Stop", "nav to about:blank" repeatedly without success. How can I force an abnormal termination when the Cntrl is in a wait state?

Consider the following: The last known Browser event to be tripped is a Document Complete event; nothing else occurs after this. When this transpires the Cntrl is waiting.

C# - Convert A Date And Time To UTC Time Based On The Time Zone Of The User?

Sep 6, 2009

I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).

I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?

C# - Specify Range >2GB For HttpWebRequest In .NET 3.5?

Jul 4, 2011

I'm building this class to download files in parts/sections/segments. In .NET 4.0, I can use this code to specify the range to download from

long startPos = int.MaxValue+1;
HttpWebRequest.AddRange(startPos);

and it works because there is a long overload for the AddRange method. When I looked up the .NET 3.5 version, I realised the AddRange() method allows using int only. The possible workaround would be using the AddRange(string, int) or AddRange(string, int, int) methods. Since the class will have to work in .NET 3.5, I'll have to go with the string specification but unfortunately I can't seem to find any sample code that shows how to specify ranges using this procedure in .NET 3.5. Can anyone show be how to do this?As the first code sample I wrote shows, I would like to specify a range of type long instead of int. Using type int allows requesting for byte ranges only up to 2GB but long allows requesting for byte ranges beyong 2GB.

The question therefore is: How do I specify byte ranges of 2GB or higher on HttpWebRequest in .NET 3.5?

.net - Stream Connection Using Httpwebrequest?

Apr 3, 2012

I have created a httpwebrequest connection to a streaming API after trying a tTCPClient which just never ended up working. My concern is whether my code is correct and that I am actually reading in new data and that the connection is maintained. Initially I had been reading into a buffer and just loaded everything into a file after max size, but figured it would be simpler to read a line, since each entry was being sent delimited by line feeds.

rStream = webrequest.GetResponse().GetResponseStream
rStream = New GZipStream(rStream, CompressionMode.Decompress)
If rStream.CanRead then

[code]....

It looks like I am continuously reading and not sure if I am reading redundant data here. Also another question is that if I were to use a thread to appendToFile, would that maintain the connection to the stream?

405 - Method Not Allowed HttpWebRequest

Apr 2, 2012

I have a problem when trying to send a POST request. The sending method looks like this:

Public Sub SendXML(ByVal file As String)
Dim reader As New StreamReader(file)
Dim data As String = reader.ReadToEnd()

[Code]....

Now looking at this I suspected that it was due to the fact that the server does not accept POST messages. But some other reading suggests that the the URI [URL] has been generated with a proxy and should be /Request so the line should read POST /Request HTTP/1.1

So what would be the common reason for this? And if it is a proxy problem, how is it sorted?

As asked below, I have created a new question for the more specific request. Changing absolute URI to relative in HTTP POST header
