.net - Live Monitoring Of Network Connectivity Status?

A new client has recently asked me to develop a Windows service that will monitor whether or not his server has internet connectivity. The service should log when the connection goes down to Local Only and back up to Internet Access as shown in Network and Sharing Center.
My original idea was to have the service ping a website like google every 5 minutes or so, but I don't know how to retrieve the results of the ping, so I then thought I could code a WebBrowser control into it and write the log entries based on the results of connection attempts from that.
This also seems like a rather impractical idea though, so can anyone suggest the best way to go about this?

With my application i call an external commandline tool that converse iso's to other fileformats. Right now i just call the iso converter and it will run in the background, when you would run the iso converter via commandline you see what it is doing, but in my application it just runs in the background.
Right now it only gives me the status after the isoconverter is done in a textbox, how could i change this so i can see live status? like i would see in the command line tool?

i am developing an application which i want to use to monitor all print command executed on each and every machine on the network.I would like to record the print documemt name the time, the date, the name of computer on which the print job was made.Bascially it will be like a transaction log/Activity log which will monitor all activities done via each computer.I have researched about this and got to know that i have to use this dll files PrinterQueueWatch_Licensed i have downloaded this but for some reasons i am not able to add these file to my references so that i can start using it.
I am currently improving an existing handheld application, this app makes live calls to our network over the wireless connection, if the wireless connection is not established I am displaying a holding screen to the user, this screen rechecks connection every three seconds.I want to put a button on this screen that closes down the application if the user does not want to wait any longer. At the moment I am using the application.exit command, however it continues to finish the first original thread (i.e. trying to process the dataset) before actually closing the application, I am looking for a way to kill the application there and then!
I have designed a website using ASP (Visual Basic) which our staff use both interally and externally (i.e. on and off our network). Browsing network folders is available to the user when using the site on the network. However, if the user has a laptop which has not synchronised with the server, network folders set for synchronisation appear empty when they are not.
I understand the reasons for this, however I would like to be able to present the users with a friendly warning if they have not synchronised their laptop. Is there some sort of system flag I can access which will tell me whether a given laptop client has synchronised with the network or not (the same trigger which makes the Synchronisation Manager icon appear on the task bar)?
I have a problem when trying to detect the computers network connection status.

But for some even when the network is disconnected or the computers wifi is turned on I still get the result of "Connected". I think there something wrong with the code.
I am trying to verify connectivity from my application to various servers - For now I am only concerned with mail servers... (later SQL etc)Before anyone gets all upset and thinking this is for SPAM - wrong - these are to confirm connectivity from the application for sending logs OR to ensure the SQL conneciton is working appropriately - Those that want to SPAM can do this simply by getting LINUX and doing it for free with ANY mail client (I add this ONLY because MOST SMTP threads go unanswered... which is silly... there are MANY good reasons to work with mail within an application.....)So what I have tried is opening a telnet session, grabbing the output, and going from there...But it is not working.... the output contains nothing specific to the telnet session I initiate - and.... of course from the command prompt manually i DO get the proper responses

I get the command prompt header, I see the commands... I see the prompts... but after the telnet command there is nothing I am assuming there is an issue redirecting telnet info and the telnet session terminates the second I try to read the data
I work as an IT Administrator and manage a few Servers, Routers, VPN Connections over a number if locations. What I am wanting to do is create a vb.net app that will go out and ping say every 2-5mins each of the servers, routers, that are listed and then shows beside the Hostname a Green Circle which means online and if its a Red Circle its offline, and the screen refreshes if their is a problem or a device / service comes back online.
Then if its offline email a particular email address showing the hostname of either the server or router and which location saying its offline. If possible to make it easier to change the devices to show possible have a txt file or something like that with the Hostname, IP Address, Location.
Now for a succesful insertion i want to notify the user about a successful save operation.....i.e,i want to display a message "Successful Save Operation"to the user. How to do this using the Status Strip?
Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. Being the noob I am it took me about 6 hours to figure out how xml works and to write some code for what i need to do.
Here is what i came up with:

That code works fine.Now when i add another column to the datagridview called "update size" i want to know how to add the grabbed data from another sub i made to the new column.What would the code be for adding the strings for the new sub into the seconds column? the first was, DataGridView1.Rows.Add(str)" . So what would the second be ?Also another question i have is how do i put an image in an imagecolumn by a web link, not a local picture.
I have a gridview in which when I click edit, update, and cancel button comes. I have a variable named status. If status=false then update should change to insert and if status=true then update should be update itself.

if i connect without setting database password then it connects easily. if i set password then it says file cannot connect.Is there any other method for entering password without writing password into the connection string?
I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.
How can I check for internet connectivity? I can't use the My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable, because that one returns true also when you only have a local network connection and no internet connection.
