I am using Visual Basic 2010 with Windows 7. My code is is follows:
Dim file as system.IO.StreamReader
file = My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader(C":financialsprogramcurrency.txt")
TextBox1.text=file.ReadLine()
file.Close
For some reason my program does not execute beyond the Dim statement and instead displays the form without text in TextBox1.
the default readline method of streamreader reads the text file from top to bottom how i can reverse it?from bottom to top?

I am writing a click event to delete an item selected from a list view which will utlimately be deleted from the csv file the information is coming from.Currently I am having streamreader read each line and then replace the selected line with a blank line. This creates blank lines in my csv files. Is there a way to delete a line using sr or sw without creating blank lines?Or is there a way to have them read/write a file skipping any empty lines?

I have a Listbox where i use OFD to list selected text filenames, can be multiple and from different drives

I would like to be able to select more than one and have the whole of the lines loaded. I have tried many approaches, 'For each line' for example, but cant get my head around it. Another issue is that i would only like to see the textfile name in the listview box instead of path and filename.

View 8 RepliesI am in the process (slow process) if learning vb.net by trying to create a simple application that will read and write (save) chosen information to a text file. The application has text boxes (name, email address, etc) and I want to read information from certain lines in the text and place in the given text box.[code]When I start debugging mode it does not display the text until I click onto the text box and it's displaying the first line of text in the file. How do I skip the first line of text and have it display the second line (or the 6th, 24, or whatever line I need to be displayed)?Then I can start working on learning to use streamwriter

I have a forum with three text boxes and one button. I need to place various lines of text into textbox1 from a list of information.The list contains hash codes and user ID and various ofter pieces of information without spaces or punctuation. Most of the information I don't need. However, I do need the first 25-30 characters and last 25-30 characters from each text.
Lets say this is the text:
Simmon_unit32=sub4g36ff&product= shipment29664KL49Loc% 6679KM94
I need to place the above line of text into textbox1 (this I'm doing through cut and past, so not a problem). Then, click button1 and have everything before "&product=" display in textbox2 and everything after "Loc%" display in textbox3. The line of text will usually not be the same number of characters. There may be 10 characters before and after those words of 50 characters before and after those two words. So, how do I create a substring or loop (or something) that will read the line of text and display what I need in textbox1 and textbox2, regardless of the amount of characters in the line of text?
[edit]Unfortunately there are multiple & and % signs in the texts. In fact, there will most likely be an & sign somewhere before "&product=". However, "&product=" only shows up once. As far as the % sign goes. There will be 3 or 4 of them in the text. To make matters more difficult, "Loc%" also shows up multiple times in the text. But, I only need the information that displays after the very last % sign to appear in textbox3, if that helps.I'm using visual basic 2008, in a Windows forms Application.
I was developing a antimalware, and wanted to read Signature from a Signature.txt file, and place all the strings into different textboxes, my viruslist has 90069500 malware (Took Almost A Year Collecting Them) signatures and if I start typing then like:

I need to read data from a text file which consists of several lines which each contain a number and a name (eg "634 John").
