View 8 RepliesI am using Visual Basic 2010 with Windows 7. My code is is follows:
Dim file as system.IO.StreamReader
file = My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader(C":financialsprogramcurrency.txt")
TextBox1.text=file.ReadLine()
file.Close
For some reason my program does not execute beyond the Dim statement and instead displays the form without text in TextBox1.
The following is what I have that is exporting all usernames to a text file.

I am in the process (slow process) if learning vb.net by trying to create a simple application that will read and write (save) chosen information to a text file. The application has text boxes (name, email address, etc) and I want to read information from certain lines in the text and place in the given text box.[code]When I start debugging mode it does not display the text until I click onto the text box and it's displaying the first line of text in the file. How do I skip the first line of text and have it display the second line (or the 6th, 24, or whatever line I need to be displayed)?Then I can start working on learning to use streamwriter
View 6 RepliesSo I made an irc client that connects, sends commands, joins a channel etc perfectly. But I can't figure out how to use streamreader to read the data that the server is saying to me, or actually read what others are saying in channel.By the way, I used TCP client.
View 4 Replies1) On one of my forms i have a richtextbox but whenever the programs ads something like richtextbox1.text = richtextbox1.text & "New Entry" The box goes back up to the top and you need to re-scroll down to the bottum. Is there anyway i can have it to always go to the bottum when something is changed instead of reverting back to the top. Because things are added almost every 1-2seconds until it gets to the point where you cant scroll down to read what was said before something new is added and it jumps back to the top.
If you dont know what i mean make a timer of 1 second that ads somethign to the textbox and youll see what im talking about.
2)Or better still is there anyway to get the program to recive new lines from the textbox. Basicly I have a textfile which is read by around 4-8 clients. I want each client to know what its read so it can process the textfile but i dont want it to say add something like ' to the start of every line its read and ignore all ' lines because then the other client will ignore it to. So what im looking for is a sub that will process the textfile and put any previous unread lines (previous unread lines that session [i.e since program restarted]) into a string array like newline(1)

The INPUT line needs to be fixed. From what I can see, I need to move it all to a single field and use a split to parse it, correct? As I look at the entries on this site, all the code seems to use stream readers. Why would the book not do that? Am I missing something?
I have the following code;
Public Sub writetofile()

How can a text box control be programmatically made to scroll down and show the new lines appended at the bottom?
When data is appended to a multiline text box control, it always displays the first lines at the top, and the user has to scroll to the bottom to see the latest. When more data is appended, the control zooms right back to the top.
The vertical scroll is enabled, and so is multiline.
I am writing a click event to delete an item selected from a list view which will utlimately be deleted from the csv file the information is coming from.Currently I am having streamreader read each line and then replace the selected line with a blank line. This creates blank lines in my csv files. Is there a way to delete a line using sr or sw without creating blank lines?Or is there a way to have them read/write a file skipping any empty lines?

I would like to be able to select more than one and have the whole of the lines loaded. I have tried many approaches, 'For each line' for example, but cant get my head around it. Another issue is that i would only like to see the textfile name in the listview box instead of path and filename.
Im having trouble with streamreader.. It keeps locking up the debugger after the first 3 lines.. The last line being blank.. There is basically a status readout screen that updates every second or so with statistics about the Video Stream in the FMLEcmd.exe program

I want to read a PDF file having lots of text, images, tables in it. I want to read the entire file content by content page by page, from top to bottom.
For example:
The top of the page contains the Heading
