.net - WCF 'A Call To SSPI Failed, See Inner Exception'
May 20, 2011
I had a self-hosted win service WCF installed and running at one point.Naturally, I had to make some changes. So I changed the base address back to my local workstation and made the changes. It worked fine.Now it's time to redistribute and... Well... It keeps hosing and I can't figure it out.From the app.config file:
<system.serviceModel>
<services>
<service behaviorConfiguration="ExStreamWCF.Service1Behavior"
name="ExStreamWCF.Service1">

I have a WCF self-hosted as a Windows Service.When I start the service (under the NETWORK_SERVICE account), I can consume the service from my ASP.NET application on a different server.However, the business rules have changed. Now I need to run the service under my own account. I am able to stop the service, and start it again under my account. No problem there.Until I try to consume the service from my ASP.NET application on the other service. I get:
A call to SSPI failed, see inner exception

I have started using the builder class to create my connection strings for the sole purpose of making more generic connectivity code. However, I am stumped on this issue. The MS eConnect product apparently expects to receive integrated security=SSPI in its connection string if you want to use integrated security, (vs Integrated Secturity=True). I thought I would just pass "Trusted_Connection"="SSPI" to the builder class.
as it turns out, the item for Integrated Security is boolean and despite what the documentation says, will not give me SSPI in my connection string. Has anybody else found this issue and is there a simple fix for it? as for now, I'll simply strip out the item and replace it in my string.

Last night my project worked just fine. I left my system up overnight and came in this morning - my project is still on the screen, so there was no update/reboot or any of that. I added 6 lines of code, and suddenly get Build Failed. I removed those lines of code, and still get Build Failed. I restarted Visual Studio, and still get Build Failed. No Exception is ever thrown and no cause for a failed build is ever given. Output is set to Diagnostic, and it indicates nothing wrong or out of the ordinary - every task completes successfully right up to the end when it says Build Failed.

I get this error mssg; Microsoft.Net Framework//An unhandled exception has occurred.Cannot Generate SSPI Context.The SQL Server is on a SERVER and my program is on the client machine.I believe it (Client machine) is loosing its network connection. Because once I re-bot the system it connects fine.I am going to try and PING the SERVER when it comes up next to check the connection.I tried googling this for a resolution but to no avail.Do u think I will have to reload the OS on the client machine or just the Framework.

I tried to update the button text on a form from a backgroundworker.do_work event, and it failed, with the usual cross-thread exception message.However, by pure chance, I also tried to update text in a system.windows.form.toolstripstatuslabel also from this backgroundworker.do_work event, and it DOES work. Question: why is this? Is it perhaps because theres some kind of implicit shared behaviour with system.windows.form.toolstripstatuslabel?

I have created a UserControl and I'm using a simple app to test it. However, when my code in the control throws an error, such as:
If ColumnIndex < 0 Then
Throw New System.IndexOutOfRangeException("ColumnIndex cannot be less than zero.")
Else
the debugger opens the module of the UserControl in the IDE of the testing application and highlights the code above, instead of highlighting the call made by the testing application itself, e.g. LG.Add(-1, ...).How do I make the exception propagate up the call stack?

Due to some bug I had deleted the whole bin folder *with* config files, yesterday but after doing so it was working fine but today the program always throws this exception:onfiguration system failed to initialize. Even when I have recreated the configuration files. The exception is thrown as soon as application starts.

I am experiencing a problem when trying to convert a rather large VB6 application into a .Net 2005 application. Everytime I try to convert the project I get the following error: "Upgrade Failed: Exception occurred: Can't use character device names in file names"The weird thing is i have tried to convert the project using .Net 2003 and I do not get the error, it does convert.

I'm using Visual Basic Express 2010 and SQL Express 2008 in Windows XP. At first I couldn't add a datasource (the .mdf file for the database) because of a "Operating system error 32" which I seemed to have resolved by giving myself full permissions for .mdf file (by right clicking on the file and going into properties and then Security) and restarting the SQL SERVER (SQLEXPRESS) service. The dataset for the database is in my solution explorer but when I right click on a table adapter to add a query and attempt to open up the query builder, I get the error in the title above.

It is possible to catch an exception and throw a new exception which wraps the first exception as an inner exception: [URL] Also, if I call a function and it throws a certain error, but I catch it, will the calling code's catch handler execute? If so, and it is of a higher exception type, is this not wrapping the exception? eg I can throw exception ex of type IndexOutOfRange, log it but rethrow, catch a higher up exception and do something, or I can throw a new exception and wrap an inner exception like:

I created a typed dataset a day or so ago, then I added a whole bunch of tableadapter/tables with some relationships etc... suddenly out of nowhere it decides my dataset "is not defined". everywhere in my code where i use this dataset now has an error. I tried not to pull out my hair and do a Clean then Rebuild solution... out of nowhere it just refuses to generate code. Object reference not set to an instance of an Object. It would be nice if it was my object so i could find it but it's not.
Curiously I also lost the little database icon on the dataset in the solution explorer.I can still open it in the designer and preview my queries etc... it just wont make the code. it's driving me insane. anyone got a solution?

I have a large project where we have 2-3 dll projects that are converted from VB6 to VB.NET. We have fixed all the issues that caused compilation errors, and most of obvious issues in running, so now we have basically a program up and running. The exe is created from scratch in VB.NET, using a lot of functionality from the converted dll's (including GUI forms). What I wonder is when I run the program in debug mode, I get a bunch of warnings in the "Immediate Window" saying:
A first chance exception of type 'System.Exception' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll
...and some of other type (but most of them in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll).I was wondering if this is common in projects converted from VB6, or if it is caused by bad design in our code...

I'm trying to catch a user defined permission exception - i.e. a user does something their level of system access won't allow, permission exception is thrown. My problem is, the exception is caught and then rethrown as a genertic System.Exception.Is there any way I can deduce the original exception type, without resorting to string comparisons, like if ex.ToString.Contains("Permission denied"

When catching an exception in .net, you can have as many type-specific exception blocks as needed. But I usually try to have at least one "general" exception catch block. But is there a way to get the type of the "real" exception thrown that is caught by the generic exception handler, perhaps using reflection?For example, if I have
Catch ex As System.ServiceModel.FaultException(Of InvalidUser)
ProcessModuleLoadException(Me, ex)
Catch ex As System.ServiceModel.FaultException(Of SQLExceptions)
[code].....

I connected to the Informix server using RazorSQL, created a stored procedure and tested it, getting the expected answer, so the procedure exists in the database in some form.
I then run the following code:
If ConnectToInformix() Then
Dim cmd As New IfxCommand("dc_routeHasOutstandingQuantity", conn)
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
[Code]....
This error does not occur when calling the stored procedure from a live SQL connection.

I want to create an ExpressionTree where a Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vektor) should be called. So I use
Expression.Call(Forces(0).Function.Method, {Vec1, Vec2, Vec3, Vec4, Double1, Double2})(Vec1-4, Double1-2 are declared as ParameterExpression and Forces(0).Function as Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vector). But I get an AgrumentException, because Forces(0).Function.Method has seven Arguments. (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Closure as seventh argument at Index 0).

I created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets.Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.
