Using the following code btn2 looks different to btn1 and btn3 yet they are using exactly the same image.

i have my program, and i would like to be able to give it a look that doesnt change. What do i mean, i mean like, my programs buttons forms scroll bars etc change with the theme of the pc. How would i stop this? Also, how would i create custom looks for my buttons scroll bars etc.

View 3 RepliesI am a beginner who used to use VB5 seven years ago, but am now trying to get up to speed using Visual Basic .NET 2010 Express in XP.
A difference I have noted is that in VB5 my buttons appeared to be three dimensional (raised) due to shading, etc. With VB2010 my buttons are plain 2D. I have not been able to find a property to give them the 3D appearance.Is this a limitation of using VB Essentials? If not, what properties give buttons the appearance of 3D?
I'm disabling a button in vb.net and when I do, I cannot control the BackColor or ForeColor properties to change the appearance. I set new values for them but they don't get picked up. The disabled button looks almost exactly like my enabled buttons so you can't tell the difference. I'm using Flat Style buttons, but have tried changing this and it still doesn't seem to work. Is there some sort of trick to be able to do this?

I've been looking into creating custom controls, and I can't seem to find a good tutorial on how to do so. Everything I've looked at is extremely complex and I simply don't know where/how to start.
To start out with, all I want to do is change the image of the button (normal, hover, and clicked). No extra methods/events/properties/etc. I've made individual images for each situation with Photoshop.
I am making a simple math quiz program for my kids and using it as an excuse to make a WPF app. I want an image to change to a "wrong" or "right" picture depending on the answer given. Here is what would work in WinForm.

I've got a common search button in my app that has the typical static magnifying image displayed on it. When the user clicks it I want the button's image to change to the animated search, to inform the user that the app is doing something (searching the database). Then when the search process is complete, change back to the static search image.

When I comment out the line to change the button's image back to the static search image, (as stated above), and click the search button, the app actually performs the search, then when the search is completed, it changes the button's image.
Apparently VB or .Net is performing the under-the-hood process before the display/paint process, even though that's not the way it's coded. give me some insights on how to fix this, AND also please inform me of why this behavior occurs so I can try to avoid it in the future.

In the code below I can get the printer to function and print but cannot get the listview contents to print. I found an old post by Martyr discussing printing listview contents in debugger that was helpful but have not been able to figure out what part of the code to modify for the print sub to recognize the listview contents in the handler. This is what I have so far:

The printer portion of the code that runs on the strip button works without any problems. If I use that button click code above and add something to the PrintHandler Sub like this:

It prints the "Hello World String" with no problem. The issue is I am not sure what or how to refer to the contents of the listview in the Print Handler Sub or if this is even the correct way to attempt this.
I have been learning VB2008 and have been working a little with the toolstrip. While this question isn't really urgent, I've been thinking down the road about images and image libraries that I would like to build and use in my programs. I am thinking I should set up my own library so that all programs I write will have the same look (at least as often as I want them to).
1) What does everyone use to create images? What programs, features, etc. are important? Eg. I have MSPaint and and old version of CorelDraw but have never really used them to high quality stuff.
2) Are people just using the images provided in VB2008 Pro?
3) What should I consider when working with images for use in Windows Forms programming? Currently I am not doing any web work.
I'm trying to make a thumbnail toolbar button (TTB from now on)visible when the it is clicked. I know how to do stuff when it is clicked, AddHandler etc. But if I tell it TTB.visible=false then it doesn't become invisible. If I put TTB.enabled = False it will be disabled, so it's only the visible that isn't working.
Also I put a button on my form (not a TTB) and when that is click wrote, TTB.visible = false and that didn't work, so there is no way to make it invisible.
