.net - Why Is Microsoft VB 2010 Express Generating A Compilation Error On Comments
Apr 21, 2011
I am getting the following compilation errors from Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express on the first line of my code:
Error 1 Newline in constant C: cdotnetdevsrcvbmain estHelper.vb 1 1 Component Sources
Error 2 Too many characters in character literal C: cdotnetdevsrcvbmainRtestHelper.vb 1 1 Component Sources
The first line of my code is simply:
' Copyright 2011
It is generating the same compilation error for all my comments. Does anyone know why MS VB Express 2010 is acting this weird? Comments in visual basic are supposed to start with a single apostrophe so I don't understand this weird behavior.
I am primarily a web developer, mostly working with PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript. I was recently contacted by a local Sheriff's Office (small town word of mouth, nerds are always needed) to digitize a 4 page monstrosity of a form... because nobody could read the handwriting of the deputies. The catch here is that this is a small town department and, while they are fancy enough to carry computers in the field, they are not connected to the Internet. Visual Basic was the first solution that came to mind and I have been scrambling to learn the basics. I am confident in my ability to organize the content of the form and perform any necessary validation but I am unsure where to begin in terms of storing each report locally (database) and printing the end result.
Another matter that makes things complicated is the fact that they want the end result to look exactly the same as the original form, only typed instead of hand written. So, to sum things up, here are the questions I have:there seem to be several options for databases in VB 2010 Express. What is the best option for LOCAL storage of records? It looks as though the best way to format the form the exact way they want it to look with populated data would be to create a form within the application with just this content on it. Is this the best solution or might there be a better way - possibly outputting to another file? And if the data is put on another form, how would I go about printing it?
When in VS 2008 if a developer hits the ''' it generates the XML comment tags for you, but this only works when the project setting for "Generate XML documentation file" is checked. Is there a way to tell VS to generate the XML Comment tags, regardless of the project setting? I think it is possible that someone may want comments but not create a XML documentation file. In this case I am exceeding the current Team Settings, yet other developers don't want me to change this project setting. This forces me to flip this back before checking in the project. I have the same problem with other Project settings like "code Analysis". This is only a problem for VB.NET projects.
I'm, following the tutorial on creating your first program in Visual basic. I'm instructed to start a new project, and select windows form application. When I hit okay I get the following error:"Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Build.Engine, Version 3.5.0.0, culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
I am Using Visual Basic 2010 Express. And the Express Version Does Not have a MicrosoftReportViewer Facility. But is there an Alternative that can be used. I know Monies have to be made But Surely there should be an alternative For the Microsoft Visual Studio/Basic 2010/2008 Express User.or is there another way to create a reportViewer in Visual Studio/Basic 2010 Express. I have Downloaded the MicrosoftReportViewer Redistributable from
[URL]
and I run the setup but it does not work. I know there are other apps that might help me like crystal report. But I want to just use Microsoft version as it is a Microsoft Program.
When i try to install Visual Basic Express 2010 and Visual C++ Express 2010, I get this error:Setup could not install the following component:Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express Prerequisites x64
I'm on Windows Vista Things I've tried: Deleting contents of %temp% folder
I have version VisualBasic.2010 Express Edition , but this version Does not have the choose Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient) when open vb.net choose : add new data source and choose database and add connection Does not have the choose Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient)
My question is how to link database from MySQL2005 with the interface created in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express? Is it possible to link the database into my interface?
I've been working on my game for a while, in a non-online multi-player state it is complete. My goal is to add LAN or Internet Play support. My game is coded in Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express, It relies heavily on timers.Currently you play against the AI, and there is a Local multiplayer mode, using mice, controllers or the keyboard. At the moment, it is a two player, (Or 1 player against the AI) game, from my understanding the standard Client-to-Server option wouldn't very efficent, the best choice would be a peer-to-peer system. That being said, a lot of the stuff could be done client side, like for instance, the particle engine and Dynamic Rendering.[code]
I am unable to access the TableLayoutPanel feature inside the toolbox in Microsoft Visual Basic Express 2010, I was wondering if this is a feature that is excluded from this package or is it something that I need to download.
trying to get my hands wet on vs 2010 and i downloaded samples from ms site but when i tried to run some of the DB samples i received this sql error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) any ideas how to get around on this?
I am building a VB 2008 Express Edition application.I have built a database (with a single table) using SQL Server Compact 3.5 and have connected it to the project. I am able to view and edit the data using a DataGridView on a second form (tutorial made this very easy). I need to work with the data in the table within the application. how to easily load the entire table into an array or even read the table a row or cell at a time so that I can make all of the data available for manipulation within the application (the tutorials only seem to show how to display the data).
I'm using Visual Basic/Studio 2010 Express to run my VB program using MS Access database. I'm going to convert the Access database to a SQL Server Server Express data base so I downloaded SQL Server 2008 R2 Express onto my pc with Windows 7. The installation went fine and I actually converted my Access database to SQL server. I did not change anything in my VB program. My problem: When I run my normal program with the Access database (no changes), I now get an error when it executes the following code:
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader. I get the error System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException was unhandled; ErrorCode=-2147467259; Message=ODBC--connection to 'SQL ServerBilotta-pcsqlexpress' failed.
[code]....
It appears the ODBC is looking for the SQL server eventhough the program is pointing to the MS Access db. How do I get it to NOT look for the SQL db? Is there a default setting for the
I had a code for getting the hdd id written in vb.netNow I need to re-write the code into c#. I have converted the vb.net code to c# but it is not compiling.Below is the vb.net code
Dim hdCollection As ArrayList = New ArrayList() Dim searcher As ManagementObjectSearcher = New ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_DiskDrive")
I have a problem with the VB.NET compiler failing to compile a class (in a separate C# assembly) which contains two overloads of a method with generic arguments. The equivalent code in C# compiles against the same assembly with no errors. Here are the two method signatures:
protected void SetValue<T>(T newValue, ref T oldValue) protected void SetValue<T>(T? newValue, ref T? oldValue) where T : struct
Here is the code to three assemblies that demonstrate the problem. The first is the C# assembly with a Base class that implements the generic methods. The second is a C# class derived from Base and calls both overloads of SetValue correctly. The third is a VB class also derived from Base, but fails to compile with the following error message:
[Code]...
Am I doing something wrong in the VB code, or are C# & VB different when it comes to generic overload resolution? If I make the method arguments in Base non-generic then everything compiles correctly, but then I have to implement SetValue for every type that I wish to support.
I'm running 64bits Windows 7 and using MS Visual Studio 2010. I'm doing a VB program connecting to mySQL database using 32bits ODBC connection. the program have no issues loading crystal report in Visual Studio IDE environment. However, after Build and install in the same machine the following error msg appeared when trying to load the crystal report with data call from database (ABLE to display report when NO data call):
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
We were working with a VB.Net app that contains something like 2200 VB modules/forms/classes and got a not-uncommon error message when we went to compile it. (Didn't write down the exact message, but it's basically unable to copy an image file that's in use.)Problem, of course, is that not everybody got out of the app when we told them to. Like I said, not uncommon. (It's a shared app that runs from a server.)Now, the weird thing. After kicking the offenders out, when we recompiled the program the image, which we use on search buttons, was gone. The file was still there but all of the property settings that referenced it were gone. Looked into the Designer code & they were gone from there, too. Seems to me that a compiler should *mark* the code that won't compile, not delete it.Anyway, I only see two courses. Either we restore our app from a backup, losing all our changes, or we go thru all the forms (like I said, there are 2200 modules-not sure how many are forms, but it's a bunch) and manually replace the properties on all the search buttons. Either way it's going to cost us at least a day's work.
I've deleted the original code, but to be specific, when I developed a form using Buttons and Textboxes I didn't place them in any specific order. The result was that as the user clicks the cursor, it would bounce around the page in what would appear to be a random sequence, but in fact was going to the next button/box in order of how it appeared in the code section of the form. Naturally, my first inclination was ..... OK, that's how it's going to be, I'll just cut and paste the code in the order of how I want the cursor to move. What happened was I generated several errors and the file would not compile. I can find no information on how to properly cut/paste code sections without generating these types of errors. BTW, I did try the focus() function and it did direct the cursor to the appropriate box, but it also only allowed 1 character to be entered in the textbox and summarily directed the cursor to the next box.
I'm using access to replicate something that is very simple in excel. I have one "due date" column, and I want the cell right next to those cells to tell me if there are less than 15 days to that date. In excel is a simple conditional function, but I want to do it in Access because it looks better.I'm new to access and even though I've been reading some posts and forums I haven't been able to pull this out. I tried to program a macro with the following
Sub Alarma() [Alarma] = IIf([Fecha de vencimiento] - 15 > Date(), " ", "Faltan menos de 15 das")
[code]....
It shows the following error -> Compilation error: External name not defined.
So, it's not reading the "Alarma" field... how do I define this field? It's inside a formulary, and Alarma is the title (I downloaded a template from the internet and changed the titles so I wouldn't have to do it from scratch...)
We have a Visual Basic Compilation Error at the web site located at [URL] Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.
Quote:Value of type System.Nullable(Of Decimal) cannot be converted to System I have the code below which seems to work fine on my development server but causes a compilation error when I put it on my live webserver (uncommented). The error message I get from the event viewer in IIS is as above.
' <WebMethod(Description:="Insert into Referral Payments Table.")> _ 'Public Function InsertReferralPayment(ByVal ReffererCustID As Integer, ByVal InstalledCustID As Integer, ByVal AmountReferrer As Nullable(Of Decimal), ByVal AmountInstalled As Nullable(Of Decimal), ByVal ReferrerChequeSentDate As Nullable(Of Date), ByVal InstalledChequeSentDate As Nullable(Of Date), ByVal ReferrerChequeNo As Integer, ByVal InstalledChequeNo As Integer, ByVal InputBy As String) As Integer

From what I can tell IIS is configured the same and both referenced DataTables seem identical.
this is my very first posting and I must say I am desperate. I have a VB assignment due in 2 days and I am so lost. I have written a code to draw some graphic, just a basic house, tree, sun etc. I have also written a code to magnify said graphics which were all the specifications of my Assignment 1 part A. Now for Part B I am being asked to extend my program so that: A - My graphic can be drawn using different colour schemes designed by me but chosen by the user B - My graphic or an appropriate part of it can be animated around the picture box if the user chooses to do so. C - Error checking is included.
I am totally new to Microsoft Access and VB, what i am trying to do is i have a form with unbounded textboxes which i would like upon clicking a button save the text in each textbox in its unique field.[code]...
I'm currently doing a project that includes access 2010 My question will be what driver can I use for an access 2010 *.accdb type file? For a *.mdb it works perfectly well with
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'. ERROR[IM006][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]SQLSetConnetAttr failed ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'
And then it shows me that my code for
If dsLogin.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 1 Then IndexOutOfRangeException was unhandled Cannot find table 0
I knew it must be the driver but I don't know what accdb driver I can use for the connstring.
Code: For n = 0 To 100 If saveLine(n).Substring(0, 8) = "heading:" Then cboSelect.Items.Add(saveLine(n).Substring(8)) End If Next n
The For loop only ran 5 times. It turned out that saveline(5) was shorter then 8 characters, so I changed the code which solved the problem:
Code: For n = 0 To 100 If saveLine(n).Length > 8 Then
[code]....
VB 2010 neatly exits the for loop when the bug occurs. In this case it was easy for me to pick up the bug, because the combo box was not properly populated. What if it was not obvious that the for loop did not complete? It is quite scary to think that bugs like this are not displayed at run time.
I have an error ERROR [22018] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Data type mismatch in criteria expression. and I've been trying to solve this but unfortunately I couldn't get the hack of this error. I'm a newbie in dotNet.
Public Sub LogInContinue(ByVal senter As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Dim LibDS As DataSet = New DataSet Dim LibDA As OdbcDataAdapter = New OdbcDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM tblUserAccount WHERE Uname='" & txtUserName.Text & "'", LibConn)
I get the following error when trying to compile the simplest prpgram. Error 1 Class 'CLSID_CorSymWriter' could not be created: System Error &H80040154& After looking at other stuff on the net I removed VB 2010, VB 2008, any C or C++ runtimes and any .NET Framework programs I could find, and then re-installed VB 2010, but the problem still persists.
I've found that when trying to compile any program I receive this error on build:[code]I've tried reinstalling/repairing VS, resetting my settings and changing the target framework with no success. I even tried installing VS on another PC (both are running win 7 Pro 64 bit) only to still receive the same error.
