VS 2008 Webservice Compilation Error Re:System.Nullable(Of Decimal)
Jun 1, 2009
Quote:Value of type System.Nullable(Of Decimal) cannot be converted to System I have the code below which seems to work fine on my development server but causes a compilation error when I put it on my live webserver (uncommented). The error message I get from the event viewer in IIS is as above.
' <WebMethod(Description:="Insert into Referral Payments Table.")> _
'Public Function InsertReferralPayment(ByVal ReffererCustID As Integer, ByVal InstalledCustID As Integer, ByVal AmountReferrer As Nullable(Of Decimal), ByVal AmountInstalled As Nullable(Of Decimal), ByVal ReferrerChequeSentDate As Nullable(Of Date), ByVal InstalledChequeSentDate As Nullable(Of Date), ByVal ReferrerChequeNo As Integer, ByVal InstalledChequeNo As Integer, ByVal InputBy As String) As Integer
[code]....
From what I can tell IIS is configured the same and both referenced DataTables seem identical.
Im working on my first n-tier application. I am trying to serialize a structure and Im getting an error"Soap Serializer does not support serializing Generic Types : System.Nullable`1[System.DateTime]."Here is the structure that is being serialized Namespace Structures
<Serializable()> _ Public Structure structAllergy Public AllergyID As String Public ProfileID As String
[code]....
The bold line is the line that is throwing the error.
I have written a .Net 4.0 Winforms Numeric Editor control (which inherits from TextBox), and I have added a Value property that is a nullable decimal type, as follows:
Public Class NumericEditor Inherits TextBox Private _value As Decimal? = Nothing
[code]....
how to get around this exception, particularly when I'm databinding a number field to a number property, and there should be no string conversion happening. (To further complicate things, I'm using a similar technique for another control where I databind a DateTime field to a nullable DateTime property, and that control works just fine.)
I had a code for getting the hdd id written in vb.netNow I need to re-write the code into c#. I have converted the vb.net code to c# but it is not compiling.Below is the vb.net code
Dim hdCollection As ArrayList = New ArrayList() Dim searcher As ManagementObjectSearcher = New ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_DiskDrive")
I have a problem with the VB.NET compiler failing to compile a class (in a separate C# assembly) which contains two overloads of a method with generic arguments. The equivalent code in C# compiles against the same assembly with no errors. Here are the two method signatures:
protected void SetValue<T>(T newValue, ref T oldValue) protected void SetValue<T>(T? newValue, ref T? oldValue) where T : struct
Here is the code to three assemblies that demonstrate the problem. The first is the C# assembly with a Base class that implements the generic methods. The second is a C# class derived from Base and calls both overloads of SetValue correctly. The third is a VB class also derived from Base, but fails to compile with the following error message:
[Code]...
Am I doing something wrong in the VB code, or are C# & VB different when it comes to generic overload resolution? If I make the method arguments in Base non-generic then everything compiles correctly, but then I have to implement SetValue for every type that I wish to support.
I'm running 64bits Windows 7 and using MS Visual Studio 2010. I'm doing a VB program connecting to mySQL database using 32bits ODBC connection. the program have no issues loading crystal report in Visual Studio IDE environment. However, after Build and install in the same machine the following error msg appeared when trying to load the crystal report with data call from database (ABLE to display report when NO data call):
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
We were working with a VB.Net app that contains something like 2200 VB modules/forms/classes and got a not-uncommon error message when we went to compile it. (Didn't write down the exact message, but it's basically unable to copy an image file that's in use.)Problem, of course, is that not everybody got out of the app when we told them to. Like I said, not uncommon. (It's a shared app that runs from a server.)Now, the weird thing. After kicking the offenders out, when we recompiled the program the image, which we use on search buttons, was gone. The file was still there but all of the property settings that referenced it were gone. Looked into the Designer code & they were gone from there, too. Seems to me that a compiler should *mark* the code that won't compile, not delete it.Anyway, I only see two courses. Either we restore our app from a backup, losing all our changes, or we go thru all the forms (like I said, there are 2200 modules-not sure how many are forms, but it's a bunch) and manually replace the properties on all the search buttons. Either way it's going to cost us at least a day's work.
I am getting the following compilation errors from Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express on the first line of my code:
Error 1 Newline in constant C: cdotnetdevsrcvbmain estHelper.vb 1 1 Component Sources Error 2 Too many characters in character literal C: cdotnetdevsrcvbmainRtestHelper.vb 1 1 Component Sources
The first line of my code is simply:
' Copyright 2011
It is generating the same compilation error for all my comments. Does anyone know why MS VB Express 2010 is acting this weird? Comments in visual basic are supposed to start with a single apostrophe so I don't understand this weird behavior.
I'm using access to replicate something that is very simple in excel. I have one "due date" column, and I want the cell right next to those cells to tell me if there are less than 15 days to that date. In excel is a simple conditional function, but I want to do it in Access because it looks better.I'm new to access and even though I've been reading some posts and forums I haven't been able to pull this out. I tried to program a macro with the following
Sub Alarma() [Alarma] = IIf([Fecha de vencimiento] - 15 > Date(), " ", "Faltan menos de 15 das")
[code]....
It shows the following error -> Compilation error: External name not defined.
So, it's not reading the "Alarma" field... how do I define this field? It's inside a formulary, and Alarma is the title (I downloaded a template from the internet and changed the titles so I wouldn't have to do it from scratch...)
We have a Visual Basic Compilation Error at the web site located at [URL] Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.
When using the If operator [URL] to assign a value to a System.Nullable object, if the result is Nothing (null), then 0 is assigned to the object. Example: 'Expected value is null (Nothing). Actual value assigned is 0. Dim x As System.Nullable(Of Integer) = If(1 = 0, 1, Nothing) If x is a nullable type, why is it being assigned the default integer type of 0. Shouldn't it receive a value of null?

I tried to build my project but it has 1 build error :Property 'Keycode' is non-nullable. I double click it but it points nowhere. I'm really desperate. My project consists of Crystal Report. It had just been upgraded from version 8.5 to version 11. Is it possible that this is the source of error?
I have a structure that contains another structure. The inner structure is nullable. Now wht I do is something like the following. I create a new instance of the inner structure, set the member variables and assign the whole structure to the inner structure of the parent. But it is giving an error. The assignment is not successful. If I try to peek into the structure in the watch window, it says "property evaluation failed" for the HasValue and Value properties.
Dim testData As List(Of TestData) = Nothing Dim testData_List1 As New TestData With testData_List1.commonTestParam
I have the following NHibernate Linq query: From eachLine In myNhSession(Of SamplePoco)() Where eachLine.SampleIntField = 1234 The property SamplePoco.SampleIntField is type Nullable(Of Int32)
When I run the query, I get the following exception: System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'NHibernate.Hql.Ast.HqlCoalesce' to type 'NHibernate.Hql.Ast.HqlBooleanExpression' If I change the property type to Int32, it works. It seems that Nullable types are automatically converted into a coalesce expression by the Linq compiler.
Debugging the NHibernate, I just found out that this Where clause was converted into: {where ((eachLine.SampleIntField == 1234) ?? False)}. As I can understand, the whole condition comparison was translated to be coalesced instead of just the Nullable property. If I put this way eachLine.SampleIntField.Equals(1234) it doesn't work as well ('Equals not implemented' exception)
If I change the query to the following code, it works: From eachLine In myNhSession(Of SamplePoco)() Where {1234}.Contains(eachLine.SampleIntField)
Another code that works as well (coalescing the field properly as I was expecting by the first query): From eachLine In myNhSession(Of SamplePoco)() Where If(eachLine.SampleIntField,0) = 1234

I am trying to perform a simple bound connection between an Access database and a text box on a form. This is actually Chapter 18 of the "Microsoft Visual Basic 2008" book.I get the same error message when trying to create my own project "MY ADO Form" or the "ADO Form" project supplied from the DVD provided with the book. I am running the 90 Day Trial Version of Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 and Net 3.5 SP1.
My operating system is the 64 bit Version of Vista with all updates. The error when I try to run the application in the debug mode is:"A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll"and as a result no data shows up in the text box from the database and the data selection bar is grayed out in the form. The underlying database "Students Data Set" appears to be fine as I have seen the correct data for the fields "Instructor" and "PhoneNumber" prior to running the program and when connecting with the database.
Scroll to the bottom, EDIT 19 onwards. See @Chris's comments also for good examples
[code]...
It's all gone quiet since Edit 19ish and @Chris reinforcing the issue with a good example (thank you Chris). I'll make the question a little easier (and attempt to tidy up all of the above), can anyone prove this is not an MS bug or similar? It seems to be something under the hood is not correctly wired up for VB.Net with regards to Nullable Structures and Events? However, all other cases using the Nullable Structures does appear to work?
When i execute this linq to sql command its given an error "The null value cannot be assigned to a member with type System.Int32 which is a non-nullable value type." 0 Records in my Commotidy Table
I want generate manual number and get the last CommodityCode. My Code as follow,

My application is connecting to a webservice but when the webservice is offline, it will show a messagebox saying there has occured an error in my application. Giving me the option to send a report...I surrounded my whole code with a try catch to catch unsuspected errors. But still this window appears. How can I stop this?
I was given a school project in which I have to make a program that converts numbers between binary, decimal, octal and hexadecimal systems. I have figured out how to make a function to convert binary number to decimal number [code]With this code,a user can enter a number that isn't binary, and program will calculate it. How can I make that program doesn't calculate those numbers or doesn't accept anything else than 0 or 1? This is needed for other cases like octal and hexadecimal system.
