View 1 RepliesI basically need to do this, but unfortunately my hosting provider doesn't give me "Full Trust" so I can't run threads. Is there a way to do this using AJAX?
//Updates Information in Database
Thread threadFind = new Thread(LoadFind);
threadFind.Start();
Response.Write("Send old information to users"); I don't want my users to have to wait at all for a response, so I can send them the old information. However, while they are on the page I want another thread (or something that works like a thread) to update the information for the next user that visits.
This should create a desktop shortcut but instead it spits out an error that is because of the quotes inside quotes. They need to be there, I know this is the problem as I have tried without them and it has worked. Another problem though is that it creates the shortcut (when Idon'thave quotes in quotes) but wraps the whole TargetPath in quotes making the shortcut unusable. Here is my code:
Dim input As String
Dim s As String = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("UserProfile")
input = TextBox1.Text
[code].....
Using ASP.NET 3.5 with VB codebehind.
I don't want to use a webservice to populate an autocomplete extender on a textbox. In this case, it's where the user is entering email addresses and I don't want to make a trip to the database every single time. I'd much rather keep a collection in session state and 'bind' the autocomplete to that.
Is it possible to set ServicePath and/or ServiceMethod to something in the codebehind as opposed to a webservice?
I'm running some command line programs through my app and I have to pass some parameters to the command line app.I'm launching the command line with Start.Process and using StartInfo.Arguments = "".The problem is that some of the parameters require me to pass quotes and when I put quotes into the compiler, it doesn't register it in the way I want it to.
View 3 RepliesI have successfully returned data from a ASP.Net webservice in JSON format (using a service method that required no parameters) but have struggled with making a webservice call that requires a parameter.
Webservice:

Is there a way to pass an optional parameter to a webservice, instead of having to overload the method?If the webservice user is accessing the webservice directly, I want to do ActionA, if the user is accessing the webservice through my web interface, I want to do ActionA + ActionB.
View 1 RepliesI would like to create a stored procedure that will call any webservice by passing to the stored procedure the webservice name/url and its parameters. I would like this instead of adding web refference each webservice one by one.

I have been thrown in at the deep end with an existing VB.NET project at work. I have never used VB.NET before so I am struggling a little. Does anyone know how to solve the following.I need to pass an instance to client side and then pass it to a shared method in order to access instance methods from when the shared method.The starting point is a fileupload control within the HTML of my Contacts.aspx file:
<asp:FileUpload ID="DocUpload1" runat="server" onchange="CallMe();" />
The onchange event calls a javascript method, see below, this uses AJAX PageMethods to called a Shared method in my code behind This is the script code which is in my Contact.aspx file

If anyone knows the solution please could they update the code as I probably won't be able to understand if you just give a description. I just hope I am along the right tracks.
var paramStr = $('#id1').val() + '|' + $('#id2').val() + '|' + $('#id3').val();
paramStr = '{"searchCriteria": "' + paramStr + '"}';
$.ajax({

Is there any way to use selectnode with the attribute having both single and double quotes? If we are having single quote in the attribute we can use like below,
nodeList = root.SelectNodes("//book[contains(title,""'attribute'"")]")
If we are having double quotes we can use,
nodeList = root.SelectNodes("//book[contains(title,'"""attribute"""')]")
how can I use an attribute ['attribute"] having both single and quotes in SelectNodes.
Dim hmm As String
hmm = "HELLO"
Console.WriteLine(hmm)[code].....
The Output of this Code is HELLO But how should i get it in double Quotes as"HELLO" This has to be my output in double quotes.
If I try to display a command line argument that has double quotes around, the double quotes are always stripped off. How can I avoid this?
for example, the argument is "c:xx.txt" and this displays c:xx.txt instead Console.WriteLine((My.Application.CommandLineArgs(4)))

Quote:Value of type System.Nullable(Of Decimal) cannot be converted to System I have the code below which seems to work fine on my development server but causes a compilation error when I put it on my live webserver (uncommented).The error message I get from the event viewer in IIS is as above.
' <WebMethod(Description:="Insert into Referral Payments Table.")> _
'Public Function InsertReferralPayment(ByVal ReffererCustID As Integer, ByVal InstalledCustID As Integer, ByVal AmountReferrer As Nullable(Of Decimal), ByVal AmountInstalled As Nullable(Of Decimal), ByVal ReferrerChequeSentDate As Nullable(Of Date), ByVal InstalledChequeSentDate As Nullable(Of Date), ByVal ReferrerChequeNo As Integer, ByVal InstalledChequeNo As Integer, ByVal InputBy As String) As Integer

From what I can tell IIS is configured the same and both referenced DataTables seem identical.
My application is connecting to a webservice but when the webservice is offline, it will show a messagebox saying there has occured an error in my application. Giving me the option to send a report...I surrounded my whole code with a try catch to catch unsuspected errors. But still this window appears. How can I stop this?
View 5 RepliesI am building a client in VB.net for calling webservices methods from a partner organisation.[URL]../system.web.services.protocols.soaphttpclientprotocol%28v=VS.71%29.aspx because I can't get it to work using the Web References feature of Visual Studio 2010 (when I try to do that it turns the methods from the WSDL into classes).I have created a proxy class and can instantiate an object of that class no problem.
However, when I try to call a method which requires arguments I get this error:
Unmarshalling Error: unexpected element (uri:"http://api.service.apimember.emailvision.com/", local:"key"). Expected elements are <{}key>,<{}login>,<{}pwd> Does anyone have any idea why this might be? (If it's helpful I can post my code and the location of the WSDL.) (P.S. I can get the whole thing to work fine in PHP using ZF Soap classes, but for various reasons I need to get it to work using .Net)
Edit to add: I have used Wireshark to examine the outgoing and incoming SOAP message to compare them with the messages being sent via SoapUI, where it all works fine.What this has shown is that my VB client is sending a message where the namespace of the web service I am trying to access is declared as an attribute of the method, and not in the soap:envelope attributes.

I have to send a request to Webservice and I have a working PHP solution, that I have to translate in VB.net
Here's the code working in PHP

//encode the object in JSON format to communicate with the server.

View 1 RepliesI'm upgrading a project from VB6 to VB2008.I have a routine that clears a combo box, named 'cmbDataTable' which could be on any form. I pass the form and the combo box is cleared.

I assumed it would be the same in VB2008 but I get the error.'cmbDataTable' is not a menber of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form'I am working my way through the project, first updating the global procedures - this is one - I haven't written the calls so cmbDataTable doesn't yet exist.
I have a xls file, or a csv without quotes, and using vb.net need to turn it into a csv with quotes around every cell. If I open the xls/csv without quotes in MS Access, set every column to text and then export it, its in the format I need. Is there an easier way? If not, how do I do replicate this in vb.net?
