VS/VB 2010 - Sorting Excel Rows Getting Error "The Sort Method Is Not Valid'?
Jun 14, 2011In the following code all goes well until the .Sort line. Then I get an error which says, "The sort method is not valid. Make sure it is within the data you want to sort and the first sort by box isn't the same or blank."I've tried various permutations to deal with this exception, all to no avail. The Range is Selected ok and the Excel data are pasted from the clip board ok. Then I get the error and no sort occurs.

Apr 28, 2009This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

Callback Method - Cross Thread Operation Not Valid Exception?
Jul 28, 2009I have a windows form that gets data from a scale via the serial port. Since I need the operator to be able to cancel the process I do the get data process on a second thread. The data collection process gets multiple readings from the scale one at a time. The form has a label that needs to be updated with information specific to each reading.
I call the method to get the data from the scale with this code.

I get the exception on the "lblInstructions.Text =" statement. I thought the GetDataCallback method was part of the UI thread so don't understand why I'm getting the exception. I know this could probably be rewritten using a BackgroundWorker and it's appropriate events but for now would like to understand why this isn't working as expected. The application was written originally in VS2003 and just recently upgraded to VS2008.
Not A Valid Update Method In Datatableadaptor - Saving Access Database?
Jul 4, 2009I'm struggling to work with data in VB 2008, and find it extremely complicated! At first I couldn't even get a database to load, as VB 2008 kept complaining it was created with an older Jet engine.OK, I converted it to a newer Access format that VB 2008 finally accepted.
In trying to find out why changes weren't saved, I found a common problem was VB 2008 wiping out changes.OK I have told the compiler not to copy the older database file back over but to copy newer.Updates then supposedly happened --- no errors were reported --- but the changes were still not saved.It appears the update method didn't exist in the datatableadapter, but I got no error messages about that.
No update done.
I've used the tools to configure the dataset and datatableadapter.Automatic generation of methods like update, add new, delete, etc. were supposedly done.Now, when trapping the error, I'm told the update method isn't a valid one.I found little information on that. It suggested primary keys could be a cause, but adding or deleting a primary key has no effect.I can see the fill method, and it works fine.I can't see the update method. (Apparently it is in SQL which I don't know anyway.)

Call Wcf Service From Javascript Or Method?
May 15, 2012I have a asp.net web application with jquery controls. I have a datagrid that will display data from a database table and created a WCF Service to access the db and return the data. I want to be able to call the WCF service from this application which is on a different server and have the xml data returned, converted to json format to be used in the datagrid which is a jquery widget. I have tested the web service and it works fine. Should I call the web service from the javascript function within the xml or create a .net method behind that calls the service and then does the conversion? From these how would I get started?

May 25, 2011Is it possible to somehow invoke foo("SomeAwesomeString") from VBScript directly (i.e., without it having to launch an additional process)?
The use case is this: I am trying to write an 'extension' application for hMailServer (hMS), but hMS can only invoke VBscript scripts when an event happened. I can have the VBscript launch an .exe every time the event happened, but the processing involve opening and closing a connection to a back-end database. So, every invocation is very expensive. I had been thinking that I can reduce the expense by having a Service to maintain the connection (i.e., opening it once and re-open it if the connection closed). Plus by implementing the processing as background worker threads will result in a non-blocking processing + less process-starting overhead.

Web Services - .net SOAP Webservice Client "Unmarshalling Error: Unexpected Element?
Jul 28, 2011I am building a client in VB.net for calling webservices methods from a partner organisation.[URL]../system.web.services.protocols.soaphttpclientprotocol%28v=VS.71%29.aspx because I can't get it to work using the Web References feature of Visual Studio 2010 (when I try to do that it turns the methods from the WSDL into classes).I have created a proxy class and can instantiate an object of that class no problem.
However, when I try to call a method which requires arguments I get this error:
Unmarshalling Error: unexpected element (uri:"http://api.service.apimember.emailvision.com/", local:"key"). Expected elements are <{}key>,<{}login>,<{}pwd> Does anyone have any idea why this might be? (If it's helpful I can post my code and the location of the WSDL.) (P.S. I can get the whole thing to work fine in PHP using ZF Soap classes, but for various reasons I need to get it to work using .Net)
Edit to add: I have used Wireshark to examine the outgoing and incoming SOAP message to compare them with the messages being sent via SoapUI, where it all works fine.What this has shown is that my VB client is sending a message where the namespace of the web service I am trying to access is declared as an attribute of the method, and not in the soap:envelope attributes.

(VB .NET) I have a reference to another project which is a win form application and has a setup form which takes the user name, password and some other settings information which will be used by a service. It has "Finish" and "Cancel" buttons. I am creating a new instance of this form on Sub New() of the ProjectInstaller Class, so user can input information, click Finish and installation completes. The service is then automatically started. Now, when I click Cancel on the settings form, I am not able to exit out and halt the installation process. Instead it installs the service !! How can I use the Rollback or Uninstall methods to do the task? I was trying this -
