'Me' Is Valid Only Within An Instance Method' Inside PageMethods
Oct 13, 2011
I'm getting "Me' is valid only within an instance method" error when I convert function to a PageMethods. [code] If I remove Me, I get different error.I got this shopping cart script somewhere online and I'm not sure what to replace "Me.objDR" with something else.
But it still runs asynchronously. I need the browser to actually wait until my code-behind is finished executing, then it can be refreshed
There's a listbox loaded with values that were just deleted from the database, they shouldn't be visible. Problem I have is the window location refreshes before the code-behind is executed, and nothing seems like it was deleted to the user.
I'm trying to create an array to be handled during my code. I want to create it as soon as I open the program so I've placed it in my bit of constructor code. This code was working fine before I tried to initialize a new array in there but when I place that in I get the above error message. This occurs whether I put the new array bit of code first in my constructor class or not.
can anyone see why I would keep getting a PageMethods undefined error?
edit - part of the issue may be because the function isnt shared, but when shared is put in, i get this error in about 15 places. - this is refering to the session I am using - here is a snippet of the session being used that is showing an error.
prm4.Value = Session.Item("user_id")
I am getting the word session underlined with the error message below - any suggestions on how to fix this? this could fix the whole issue all together.
Error 305 Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the class.
I'm working through a book that does not provide a lot of example code and what it does provide is in C#. The book refs vs 2005 but I'm using vs2008. The author asks for the user to create a solution with two projects, one winforms and the other a class library (called DependentAssm). The class library is added as a reference to the winforms project In the class library, he asks one to create a new class called SayHelloComp. The project created a file called class1.vb, and a class called class1 which I renamed to SayHelloComp. I left the file name alone, that's ok right?
I have been thrown in at the deep end with an existing VB.NET project at work. I have never used VB.NET before so I am struggling a little. Does anyone know how to solve the following.I need to pass an instance to client side and then pass it to a shared method in order to access instance methods from when the shared method. The starting point is a fileupload control within the HTML of my Contacts.aspx file:
The onchange event calls a javascript method, see below, this uses AJAX PageMethods to called a Shared method in my code behind This is the script code which is in my Contact.aspx file
[Code]...
If anyone knows the solution please could they update the code as I probably won't be able to understand if you just give a description. I just hope I am along the right tracks.
Can I make an Extension method for all the subclasses of System.Object (everything)?
Example: <Extension> Public Function MyExtension(value As Object) As Object Return value End Function
The above functions won't work for object instance:UPDATE The problem seems to occur only in VB, where members of object are looked-up by reflection (late-bound).UPDATE AFTER ANSWERED.FYI, as vb has an advantage that C# lacks that is, members of imported Modules are imported to the global scope so you can still use this functions without their wrapper:Dim myObj2 = MyExtension(myObj1)
Basically, I've got this plugin-based application I've used all the time in VS2008 flawlessly. In my current project (VS2010 by the way) I wrote a plugin for the application and whenever I try to use an instance of a particular class (in an external dll) from my plugin, I get an error.
I tried watching the instance and I got the message: "Cannot find the method on the object instance." in the watch window. This has never happened before! I also found that some of the extension methods in the plugin does not work.
I have a windows service that I have been writing in Vb.Net. As part of this service it calls a class that has a long running Process.I can execute commands to this process when I want to via the ServerCommands() class within the service, however I want to call these remotely. Possibly from a website or click once WPF application.
For this I have used a simple Tcp.Ip WCF example, and have verified it as working correctly.
This called OnStart()Private _serverCommands As ServerCommands Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String) Add code here to start your service. This method should set things in motion so your service can do its work.
[Code]...
It appears that in debug _serverCommands is Nothing when it should be running. How might I go about ensuring any command I execute through WCF communicates with the running instance instead of creating a new ServerCommand() instance??I haven't tried WCF before, so I might be hitting a dead end... however I'm sure its possible.
I have a windows form that gets data from a scale via the serial port. Since I need the operator to be able to cancel the process I do the get data process on a second thread. The data collection process gets multiple readings from the scale one at a time. The form has a label that needs to be updated with information specific to each reading.
I call the method to get the data from the scale with this code. Dim ad As New readALine(AddressOf thisScale.readALine) Dim ac As New AsyncCallback(AddressOf Me.GetDataCallback) Dim iar As IAsyncResult = ad.BeginInvoke("", ac, ad)
The delegate for the readALine method is defined in the UI code. Delegate Function readALine(ByVal toSend As String) As String
The GetDataCallback method: Private Sub GetDataCallback(ByVal ia As IAsyncResult) . . . lblInstructions.Text = _thisMeasure.dt.Rows(_currRow - 1).Item("cnt") & ":" lblInstructions.Refresh() . . . End Sub
I get the exception on the "lblInstructions.Text =" statement. I thought the GetDataCallback method was part of the UI thread so don't understand why I'm getting the exception. I know this could probably be rewritten using a BackgroundWorker and it's appropriate events but for now would like to understand why this isn't working as expected. The application was written originally in VS2003 and just recently upgraded to VS2008.
I'm struggling to work with data in VB 2008, and find it extremely complicated! At first I couldn't even get a database to load, as VB 2008 kept complaining it was created with an older Jet engine.OK, I converted it to a newer Access format that VB 2008 finally accepted.
In trying to find out why changes weren't saved, I found a common problem was VB 2008 wiping out changes.OK I have told the compiler not to copy the older database file back over but to copy newer.Updates then supposedly happened --- no errors were reported --- but the changes were still not saved. It appears the update method didn't exist in the datatableadapter, but I got no error messages about that. No update done.
I've used the tools to configure the dataset and datatableadapter.Automatic generation of methods like update, add new, delete, etc. were supposedly done. Now, when trapping the error, I'm told the update method isn't a valid one.I found little information on that. It suggested primary keys could be a cause, but adding or deleting a primary key has no effect.I can see the fill method, and it works fine.I can't see the update method. (Apparently it is in SQL which I don't know anyway.)
I would like a method that opens a form which has a textbox. The user then types into the text ox and click the button "OK". The method then performs an action on the userinput before returning the manipulated value to the program.
When an instantiated class calls a method in the parent form class, VB.NET starts a new instance of the form class instead of calling the method on to the active one.How do I tell it that I have just one instance of my form class, or that I don't want to create a new instance of the form and just call the method on the already active form?
If I have a very large function/sub in a class that is an instance method (i.e., not Shared), do I gain or lose anything by moving that to a shared method and then declaring a small stub method for the instance use?
I.e., I go from this: Public Sub MyBigMethod(ByVal Foobar As String) If String.IsNullOrWhitespace(Foobar) Then Throw New ArgumentNullException("Foobar") End If [Code] .....
My thinking is I save on memory size per each instance of the object. Because each instance only has to lug around the stub method which handles calling the shared version and passing an instance of itself to the shared method so that it can do whatever it needs to do. But I'll wager that I sacrifice a very teensy amount of speed because of the added function call overhead.
I'm trying to search a generic list of 'User' business objects which has a property called 'Username': If (From u In colUsers Select u.Username Where Username.Equals(strUsername)).Count > 0 ThenI keep getting:Delegate to an instance method cannot have null 'this'.
I have been learning about OOP and classes from a book and one of the question is the book has asked to create a simple Saving/Checking accounts Program. The question says that most of the functionality must be done through an Accounts Class, and this Acoounts class must inherit certain private fileds from an base class 'Transaction.
The question also says that data from the Saving/Checking accounts Program must be read to and from a text file, and these functions must be done within the Acounts class.
i have done everything the question asks to the best of my knowlegde and understanding but when it comes to storing and retieving data from the textfile i cannot utilise the array i created to store the textfile data onto it.
Bank Account.Write a program to maintain a person's Savings and Checking accounts. The program should keep track of and display the balances in both accounts, and maintain a list of transactions (deposits, withdrawals, fund transfers, and check clearings) separately for each account. The two lists of transactions should be stored in sequential files so that they will persist between program sessions.
Consider the form in Figure 11.12. The two dropdown combo boxes should each contain the items Checking and Savings. Each of the four group boxes corresponds to a type of transaction. (When Savings is selected in the Account combo box, the Check group box should disappear.) The user makes a transaction by typing data into the text boxes of a group box and pressing the button. The items appearing in the Transactions list box should correspond to the type of account that has been selected. The caption of the second label in the Transfer group box should toggle between "to Checking" and "to Savings" depending on the item selected in the "Transfer from" combo box. If a transaction cannot be carried out, a message (such as "Insufficient funds") should be displayed.
The program should use two classes, Transaction and Account. The class Transaction should have properties for transaction name, amount, date, and whether it is a credit (deposit) or debit (withdrawal/check). The class Account, which will have both a checking account and a savings account as instances, should use an array of Transaction objects. In addition, it should have properties for name (Checking or Savings) and balance. It should have methods to carry out a transaction (if possible), to display the list of transactions, and to load and retrieve the set of transactions into or from a sequential file. The events InsufficientFunds and TransactionCommitted should be triggered at appropriate times.
Hint: In order for an Account object to display a list of transactions, a list box should be passed to a method as an argument. The method might be declared with Sub EnumerateTransactions(ByVal lb As ListBox).
Here is my code. I am sorry this code is basic and unedited.
Public Class Form3 'load contents of Text file into the listbox when first loaded 'store data in file into array of accounts, record no. counts
Is there any way to know that a variable inside a method is Compiler generated.when decompiling a .net dll or exe the generated code looks like this. [code]
In the following code all goes well until the .Sort line. Then I get an error which says, "The sort method is not valid. Make sure it is within the data you want to sort and the first sort by box isn't the same or blank."I've tried various permutations to deal with this exception, all to no avail. The Range is Selected ok and the Excel data are pasted from the clip board ok. Then I get the error and no sort occurs.
Under Visual Basic 2010, I am trying to define a specific instance of a static method that was created as a Java class. I have a vendor supplied dll added in as a reference.[code]...
But, I can't seem to define a specific instance of this method. Using "IntegrationMethod.getIntegrationMode()"always returns a value of zero.
There doesn't appear to be any way to "setIntegrationMode" to a specific value.
The documentatoin for this Class as provided by the vendor are shown below.
When I asked the vendor for assistance, their response was: "
Our javadocs for the IntegrationMethod class show that we provide three predefined instances of the IntegrationMethod class[code]...
Use the "new" keyword to create an object instance & Check to determine if the object is null before calling the method. I'm reading text from a text file using the following [Code]
Inside my .aspx I have some JSON code that looks like this:
[Code]....
Basically what I'm doing is pulling text from two labels on one page, and sending them to another page by calling the "doIt" function which looks like this:
[Code]....
Just so I'm clear, the "doIt" function and the JSON call are on two separate web forms. My problem is that with the "doIt" function being Shared, I can't access any global variables of the class. And if I remove the Shared, my JSON doesn't execute.
I have a .dll file (Interop.ACTMULTILib.dll) that I use to connect to a PLC. This .dll contains a sub called ReadDeviceBlock2(byval devicename as string, byval size as integer, byref data as short). When I call this method in my main it works fine, if I call it from another method that was called by main it works as well. However, it doesn't work when I call it from my Timer_Elapsed sub? I guess this has to do something with threads but I can't figure it out.
Module Main Private Timer As New System.Timers.Timer Private PLC As New ACTMULTILib.ActEasyIF Private DataSet As new DataSet[code].....
May i know how to insert a AT command method inside my program to receive incoming sms?
My program is in visual basic windows form 2005.
Here is how my program goes.
After i click connect button in my application, the gsm modem will automatically read the incoming sms and display in the textbox on the program.
I already have the list of AT commands to be used, they are :
1. AT 2.AT+CMGF=1 3.AT+CMGL="ALL"
I also would like to know how to declare these commands as string inside the program.
Here is my program so far:
CODE;
This code is for the user to click on connect button which will connect to the serial port. So after connecting the modem will then auto read and display new incoming sms.
