View 1 RepliesI have this code below that pings a hostname and responds with the status of the machine:
vb
Public Function PingHostname(ByVal strServerName As String) As Boolean
Dim blnPingResult As Boolean
Dim objPing As New Ping
Dim objIPStatus As IPStatus
[Code] ......
My question is... whenever the machine is not available it hangs as it times out and eventually fails and catches an exception. Is there a better way to do this so my application doesn't hang? What I have is a treeview with a list of computers and when I hit F5 it executes this code and pings the server.
I need help with something it drives me nuts. I have an application which send XML to a web server through a POST method. This part works excellent. But where I have issues is with receiving the standard response from the web server for OK or error. Instead of receiving the actual response, I get the error message" WebException was unhandled. The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine" . The response I should receive is in XML format where I have as elements the error result (ok or error), the error number and the error description. Here is the code I have:

Does someone know If Response.Redirect can be used inside a method of a web service. I'm trying and I get an error. If I use it outside of the web service I have no problems.

View 2 RepliesI have a windows service that utilizes an infinite loop and thread.sleep. The sleep time for the thread is 10 seconds. When the service is initially started AND has work to do (data exist in SQL), it immediately does it's processes. It continues to be responsive and process tasks every 10 seconds as long as it has work to do. If no data is present in SQL for an extended period (i.e. 15-20 minutes) then the service starts responding very slowly. It will eventually pick the data up and process it, but it takes more like 10 minutes instead of 10 seconds.
View 2 RepliesHere's the situation. I'm a Java developer. Another developer in our company wrote a web service for our clients. They wrote the service in Java. They also wrote a demo for creating a client to consume the web service in Java and it works just fine. I've been tasked with creating a web services client in VB.NET to do the same thing. It hasn't been going smoothly. The problem is that the web service requires that you send the username and password in the SOAP header and I can't figure out how to do that in Vb.NET. I looked at the following pages:

I have a windows application in VB.net that uploads some files to an existing web service. I know that this web service is providing a response back (success or failure), but I have no idea how to view it or save it.

View 1 RepliesI am a starter in scripting. So my scripts are as easy as you see.
The following script is to check currently stopped services, which are "auto start" by default.
You just need to creat "C:hostnames.txt". Then type the servers that you want to be checked, every line one hostname.
Run "Check services.vbs".
Check services.vbs:
Const ForWriting = 2

I'm building a web service to accept notifications from a company. The company informed me that the service is incorrectly structured and provided me the .asmx of a working web service. It looks like this:
Request:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<soap12:Envelope
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"

I have a VB.net web service that returns JSON that works fine. Once the response gets to a certain size though, the client browser says that the server has closed the connection and sent no data. This is true using IE, Chrome, or Firefox. The magic size seems to be about 16383 records, or about 1.13MB of data. I know this is slightly large for a web service.

The conditions are I don't have administrator privilege I want to see the status of a service in remote machine (server)I use the following code (vb.net with framework 2.0) to see the status
Dim sqlSvc As ServiceController
Svc = New ServiceController(My.Settings.serviceName, My.Settings.machineName)
If sqlSvc.Status.ToString.Equals("Running") Then
displayStatus("success", sqlSvc.Status.ToString)
Else
displayStatus("error", sqlSvc.Status.ToString)
End If
When running the code, InvalidOperationException is raised and found out that I need admin right in the server. Can I lookup the status of the service without having admin right in remote machine ?
I have a very long running task I need to take from my website and put into a web service however every time I try call the web service I get this error message The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
View 1 RepliesI'm getting a string response from a server using a simple call of the Webclient.DownloadString() method, the returned string is something like this:

I have a asp.net web application with jquery controls. I have a datagrid that will display data from a database table and created a WCF Service to access the db and return the data. I want to be able to call the WCF service from this application which is on a different server and have the xml data returned, converted to json format to be used in the datagrid which is a jquery widget. I have tested the web service and it works fine. Should I call the web service from the javascript function within the xml or create a .net method behind that calls the service and then does the conversion? From these how would I get started?

I am trying to implement oAuth authentication in my desktop application. In a code example I found over the internet is like below. I guess it is ASP.Net code but I'm using VB.Net for my project. The problem is I don't know what is equivalent for Request in VB.Net.
If Request("oauth_token") Is Nothing Then
MsgBox("Nothing")
Else
MsgBox("Something")
End If
Is it possible to somehow invoke foo("SomeAwesomeString") from VBScript directly (i.e., without it having to launch an additional process)?
The use case is this: I am trying to write an 'extension' application for hMailServer (hMS), but hMS can only invoke VBscript scripts when an event happened. I can have the VBscript launch an .exe every time the event happened, but the processing involve opening and closing a connection to a back-end database. So, every invocation is very expensive. I had been thinking that I can reduce the expense by having a Service to maintain the connection (i.e., opening it once and re-open it if the connection closed). Plus by implementing the processing as background worker threads will result in a non-blocking processing + less process-starting overhead.
I have a windows service application to send emails. The same code works well with windows application but not with windows service.

WinFormsApp Login passes information to .php (server based) Login (provided credentials are correct) to DB to retrieve Decryption Key. WinFormsApp then uses Decryption key on Hardcoded encrypted connection string and renders application usable. This would then eliminate the necessity to encrypt/decrypt a connection string at runtime, virtually rendering any unauthorized person with a useless software.

I have a Deployment project which creates an MSI setup file to install a service. (VB .NET) I have a reference to another project which is a win form application and has a setup form which takes the user name, password and some other settings information which will be used by a service. It has "Finish" and "Cancel" buttons. I am creating a new instance of this form on Sub New() of the ProjectInstaller Class, so user can input information, click Finish and installation completes. The service is then automatically started. Now, when I click Cancel on the settings form, I am not able to exit out and halt the installation process. Instead it installs the service !! How can I use the Rollback or Uninstall methods to do the task? I was trying this -
On cancel_click, set boolean var cacelStatus = True
On Sub New() method of ProjectInstaller class, I am checking - If true - uninstall, else - install
How can I achieve this?

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with

interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I have a service that scans network folders using a parallel.for method. However recently I am finding if I stop the service then while windows says the service is stopped the process is still running in task manager. However it is at 0 cpu and the memory does not change. If I try and end the task (even a force in command prompt) it just says access denied and i have to reboot the server. What would be the best way to make sure everything terminates? I thought of adding a global Boolean that in the stop procedure it turns true and part of my parallel code will check for that and call s.stop.
