error in the following line of code :
Dim str As String = client.DownloadString(Request.Url.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority) + "/GFOPortalA/isd/ViewForm.aspx?ISD_FRM_NO=" + Session("ISD_ReqId"))
working in an intranet sit .downloadString took less than one second, but some times the server is down (maitenance or so on) and the the result took maybe one minute or so.Is there any way to set an lower interval?for example, if the server doesn't respond in 9 seconds return empty string, or so on.
I've read some about async comm but not sure what is the best solution.
I'm working on a project that scrapes data from government websites. I've noticed that whenever I use WebClient it doesn't always get the whole HTML code. Even when I get the robots.txt file it doesn't return everything. For example, http://www.bbc.co.uk/robots.txt has 80 lines but I'm only getting 13 lines.
If an HTML block uses "display: none" in the style I can't get anything between the hidden HTML blocks. Here is the sample code I'm using:[code]...

I've been testing using WebClient.DownloadString and sometimes I encounter an error: "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden". It is based upon which url I use. For instance, this works:
Dim wc As New Net.WebClientDim strResult As String = String.Empty Try strResult = wc.DownloadString("http:/ Obama pages always fails.
How can I integrate a ProgressBar in this code? It takes normally some seconds (9-10), but my program looks like a "crash", for this reason i want use a ProgressBar
Well i want to add a listview item to the paramater of a Webclient DownloadString here is what i want
vb Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim wClient As New WebClient AddHandler wClient.DownloadProgressChanged, AddressOf DownloadProgressChanged(ListView1.Items(textbox1.text)'HAVE THIS IN HERE' AddHandler wClient.DownloadStringCompleted, AddressOf DownloadStringCompleted(ListView1.Items(textbox1.text)'Have THIS IN
Dim WebReqeust As WebClient = New WebClient Dim URL as string = "http://www.professionalorganizervannuys.com" Dim WebPage As String = WebReqeust.DownloadString(URL)
But when I use WebClient.DownloadString to read the source code to a textbox, I only get this:
<div id="webResults"> </div>
There's nothing. All of the webresults have been removed. How come I can view the code in my internet browser but not on my application?? I even used an InStr method to confirm that the results weren't contained in the generated code.
I just have a simple vb.net website that need to call a Sub that performs a very long task that works with syncing up some directories in the filesystem (details not important).
When I call the method, it eventually times out on the website waiting for the sub routine to complete. However, even though the website times out, the routine eventually completes it's task and all the directories end up as they should.
I want to just prevent the timeout so I'd like to just call the Sub asynchronously. I do not need (or even want) and callback/confirmation that it ran successfully.[code]...
Background: My application is used to execute tests using Selenium RC servers, and occasionally I'm running into a problem when my call to a Selenium command doesn't return the response from the RC server - it then ends up blocking the thread that is executing the test.
My program takes user input, replaces all spaces with "+", then inserts it into a search url for a specified web host. For example, the user enters:"How long is a foot?"
The generated URL (in this case I'm using dogpile.com) is:
For downloading a number of images I'm making DownloadDataAsync calls to separate instances of WebClient, in a loop, with a thread sleep delay. I expected the response to happen on separate threads, but it seems not, as response only occurs after all calls are completed.
So what's an appropritate fix for this? Is there an alternative client type, or should I make a thread for each webclient call?
So currently I'm calling this in a loop:
Private Sub StartDownload(ByVal webImageLink As String, ByVal token As Object) Dim wc As New WebClient Try
Is it possible to read a string and call the method of the same name? For example: I have many buttons and if the user presses the button named A1, I want the Sub AI() to be called. I don't want to do an explicit If-Then for each button. Rather a common ONCLICK method that is called by all buttons and another method (the same name as the name of the button) is called.
Example:
Sub Click(byVal buttonName as string) call ButtonName ' <<<< Error. ButtonName is string and not a Method. End Sub
I am currently adding keyboard shortcuts to our web application, so from JavaScript. So far, it has consisted mostly in triggering the click events of buttons already exposed in the user-interface.Now, I would like to add another one which redirects to another page. The new page URL needs to be generated based on elements from the source page query string.Basically, I have a date in the query string and I want to generate a new URL for the next day.
I am trying to use the UploadFile WebClient method to a HTTP server which is operating on a device, however when I do this from my code at the client end (a PC), the server crashes. If I upload the same file from my browser on the PC to the same device running the same server, it works just fine. When I track the code on the web server there appears to be a difference in the header which is sent to the server. It is a 'Post', however the filename doesn't seem to be there. Is there anyway of reading the data that the UploadFile method sends?
i made a tcp/ip application using the .NET TcpListener class, my problem is that sometimes (about 30 / 4000) the connection between the client and the server got interrupted in the middle and the server response to the client is lost.is there a way to know if the server response was successfully sent to the client without the client response back?
I am using stored procedures in my application using vb.net, while executing stored procedures on mysql database server thru application, the response time from the server is more. Is there any settings that i need to set on mysql db server or any changes in connection string or in code.
This emailing code wont seem to work in my program. I get an exception "The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was 5.5.1 authentication required."
Imports System.Net.Mail Public Class emailStudent Private Sub sendEmailButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles sendEmailButton.Click SendMail()
I'm trying to run some java script just before a page redirect but it fails to run. When I comment out the Response.Redirect all works fine but this goes against the particular requirements. how to implement this functionality?
Dim strscript As String = "<script>alert('hello');</script>" If Not ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered("clientscript") Then
I seem to remember reading the MSDN somewhere that there was another method to download files from URIs other than using the webclient object. I'm trying to download some raw php files but every time I use the webclient object the server interprets them as an HTTP request and instead serves the default web page that the php file builds and not the php code itself.
My ASMX call is returning Content-Type = text/xml; charset=utf-8 I am using ASP.NET 3.5 and jQuery.Ajax. Have added these things are per numerous suggestions from Stack Overflow. I have done these things
Done this at web.config <remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/> <add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> [Code] .....
But whatever I do, the response header is still of type xml. What part am I missing here?
