ASMX Call - Returning Response Header As XML Instead Of JSON
Dec 29, 2011
My ASMX call is returning Content-Type = text/xml; charset=utf-8
I am using ASP.NET 3.5 and jQuery.Ajax. Have added these things are per numerous suggestions from Stack Overflow. I have done these things
Done this at web.config
<remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/>
<add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false"
type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
[Code] .....
But whatever I do, the response header is still of type xml. What part am I missing here?

I have the following test method:Imports System.Web
Imports System.Web.Services
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols
<WebService(Namespace:="http://tempuri.org/")> _
<WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo:=WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)> _
<System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService()> _
[Code]...
Even with the ResponseFormat attribute added the response is still being returned as XML rather than JSON.

I have two experimental web services. One is an asmx contained within a .net web application. The other is a WCF service library being invoked from the web application.The asmx basically does everything I need, but I think WCF would be better, except that it doesn't do anything as I would expect after fiddling with the asmx service.For example, the same method behaves differently in each:
' ASMX
<WebMethod(BufferResponse:=True, EnableSession:=False)>
Function Test(aObject as Object) as Object
' object will have been successfully serializaed into a dictionary

I'm building a Web Service in VB.NET and I want to answer using JSON.
Currently my answers looks like this
{"myVar1" : "From moscow", "myVar2" : "With love"}
I would like to be able to use " (and CarriageReturn), and have the reponse like this :
{"myVar1" : "From moscow", "myVar2" : "With love"}
How can I avoid this transcoding of the " in " ?
Here is my interface definition :
<OperationContract()>

I have created a function which essentially enables me to output anything I need from my database in a similar method to Facebook's FQL querying method as a JSON text result. I can also use the same function to get the output as a Dictionary, or List of(Dictionary) to use with VB functions for other purposes.

I'm reviewing some legacy code and I've found a bug that causes the response to sit indefinitely.[code]The problem is that someStoredLength is much larger than the actual size of someByteArray, so the client just sits there waiting for the file download while the browser just spins.I'm contemplating just removing the AddHeader that specifies the content length, because when I do that everything seems to work fine, but I'm worried that I'm not understanding something.Is it ok for me to remove this AddHeader or should I figure out a better way to deal with this problem?

I was working on a scenario where I have to add header to the Response Header.
I added a Response Header like this:- HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("key1", "value1")
After some functional flow I required to add value to same "key1": HttpContext.Current.Reponse.AddHeader("key1, "value2")
thus value in Response Headers look like this:- key1 : value1, value2
I want to avoid the value2 addition to the same keyword key1.
I tried:-
If HttpContext.Current.Response.Headers("key1") Then
HttpContext.Current.Reponse.AddHeader("key1, "value2")
EndIf
But I got the error: This operation requires IIS integrated pipeline mode at HttpContext.Current.Response.Headers("key1")
I have IIS6 running. This [URL] says that it doestn't works if its not IIS7

I am working on a VB.NET web application. When someone successfully changes their password I want to show a popup message that lets them know it was changed successfully. After they click OK I want to redirect them to the main page. Code looks like this:
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Me.GetType(), "confirmScript", "ConfirmNewUser();", True)
Response.Redirect("MainPage.aspx")
Why does the redirect happen and the alert popup never displays?

I'm not sure what's wrong with the following setup. I have a View that lists a number of records, and each has a dropdown associated with it to change a value on that record. I had it all working without AJAX, but you had to change a bunch of the dropdowns then click a Submit button. I wanted to change it so that it would save the dropdown choice immediately.
My stripped down View (of type IEnumerable(Of MyTable)):
<script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftMvcAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
[Code]....
What I would like to happen is for the dropdown change to trigger the Update controller, but probably not return anything - just update the database and let the user move on. What's happening though is that a blank page is displayed with the Content value on it (i.e. "123: ABC"). It's the correct id/code combo, so the Update seems to be firing correctly, it's just choosing to wipe out the html.

I am been stuck on this for 3 days now...I have been accessing the twitter api to pull a user_timeline for a list of users and the json that comes back is impossible to work with. I tried to deserialize it using javascriptserializer and get an error:invalid object passed in , ':' or '}'
Now this is frustrating since I expect the json being returned to be error free. Then I tried json.net and split the posts using string.split and tried to convert each post to Jobject or jarray. for Jarray I get
'unexpected end of content while loading jArray
[Code]...
Now I have formatted the code here and not pasted the whole file but it does look like valid json to me and I do not alter anything after receiving the stream from the twitter api. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I really need to get this stuff parsed?

I have a JSON response from a web service that I need to be converted to an object then to an array. My response is similar to the one below:

I am doing this is VB.NET within a console for now. Basically I am trying to create a simple way to test my API calls and output the information. What I am trying to accomplish is having to loop through the JSON array and list the stations.

How can I convert a JSON string to an array OR a JSON string to XML in VB.NET? I know how to do this in C#, as I have read dozens of articles on it, however, I am unable to figure out how to achieve the same result in VB.NET.
I'm using the System.Web.Script namespace via System.Web.Extensions.dll (from Microsoft).
I'm willing to use an additional DLL file if needed.

I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm not finding quite the information I'm needing so I thought I'd post this.
I've written a PHP script that returns a simple JSON object that looks like this:
{"status":"success","level":"admin"}
I'm doing a standard web request that submits the required data to the script over the internet and that's working fine.
Now, I want to use JSON.NET to pull out the individual variables so I can know what the values of "status" and "level" are. The problem is, I have no idea where to start.
I'm doing this in VB.NET (on the .NET Compact Framework).
