Oct 28, 2010

When a json result is returned by the controller the object name seems to be missing, I normally wouldn't mind but the flexbox jquery plugin requires the json result in a particular format.

I am using ASP.NET 3.5 and jQuery.Ajax. Have added these things are per numerous suggestions from Stack Overflow. I have done these things

Done this at web.config
<remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/>
<add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false"
type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>

But whatever I do, the response header is still of type xml. What part am I missing here?

FQL MultiQuery - How To Send Result List To Browser In JSON

Feb 5, 2010

I am using the Facebook Toolkit and making a request using FQL.Multiquery. I am using the following code which returns the correct data:

Dim query1 As String = String.Format("SELECT post_id, actor_id, target_id, message FROM stream WHERE source_id in (SELECT target_id FROM connection WHERE source_id={0}) AND is_hidden = 0", FBuserId)
Dim query2 As String = "SELECT pic FROM user WHERE uid IN (SELECT actor_id FROM #firstQuery)"
Dim queries = New Dictionary(Of String, String)
queries.Add("firstQuery", query1)
queries.Add("secondQuery", query2)
Dim result As List(Of Facebook.Schema.fql_result) = q.Multiquery(queries)

When I run this 'result' list is populated with the results of the two queries in XML but I am unsure how I can send this list to the browser in JSON. I am using asp.net MVC.

C# - ToDecimal From String Not Returning Expected Result?

May 15, 2012

I have the following value 48.81, it comes as a string from the database, I need to convert it to decimal, I'm using:

Dim Seconds As Decimal = Convert.ToDecimal((Coordinate.Substring(4, 5)), CultureInfo.InvariantCulture)

I'm receiving 4881D and I need 48,81

I thought CultureInfo.InvariantCulture was going to help me with that

EDIT:The coordinate value is 675900.244.I'm "spliting" it like this:

Dim Degress As Integer = Coordinate.Substring(0, 2),
Dim Minutes As Integer = Coordinate.Substring(2, 2),
Dim Seconds As Decimal = Convert.ToDecimal((Coordinate.Substring(4, 5)), CultureInfo.InvariantCulture),

[code]....

This is the value of the coordinate in the database?

Insert Data Into An Object And Have It Spit Out A Json Formatted String?

I am looking for a vb.net library where I can insert data into an object and have it spit out a json formatted string, and also take the string in again to rebuild the object.I am not that concerned with mapping it to preexisting objects.I have searched around and every single library I've found either can't read the strings in again, interprets them as one long string instead of breaking them up into parts, or fails to work entirely (asp.net can't even find any public members).

Is there any way of accessing the keys and values (in javascript) in this array without knowing what the keys are?

The reason my json is structured like this is that the webmethod that I'm calling via jquery is returning a dictionary. If it's impossible to work with the above, what do I need to change about the way I'm returning the data?

Here's an outline of my webmethod:

Twitter Json - Unable To Convert To Jobject Or Jarray Using Json.net / Javascriptserializer?

May 9, 2012

I am been stuck on this for 3 days now...I have been accessing the twitter api to pull a user_timeline for a list of users and the json that comes back is impossible to work with. I tried to deserialize it using javascriptserializer and get an error:invalid object passed in , ':' or '}'

Now this is frustrating since I expect the json being returned to be error free. Then I tried json.net and split the posts using string.split and tried to convert each post to Jobject or jarray. for Jarray I get

'unexpected end of content while loading jArray

[Code]...

Now I have formatted the code here and not pasted the whole file but it does look like valid json to me and I do not alter anything after receiving the stream from the twitter api. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I really need to get this stuff parsed?

Asp.net - Returning Object From A Function?

Feb 8, 2012

If an object is created inside a function and the function returns that type of oject how is the memory handled.

Example:

Public Function GetEmployee(employeeid as integer) as employee
Dim oEmployee as new employee
oEmployee.FirstName="Bob"

[code]....

Does the variable that receive the object still a pointer to the memory location that was used inside the function?What about when you do a oEmployee2=oEmployee.Is oEmployee2 just a pointer? And any changes to oEmployee will now affect the other. Just trying to understand it from a memory perspective and how that scope works?

.net List(of T) Not Returning Indexed Object?

Sep 30, 2011

I'm working on a small game that is based on a map of grid squares.I have a class (clsGrid) that stores a few properties for each grid square.The grid square objects are organized into a list(of clsGrid).A loop and stream reader are successfully reading properties from a text file, putting the properties into grid objects, and adding the grid objects to a my list of grids. When retrieving a grid from the list of grids, I'm getting unusual results. Regardless of the index I give the list, I always seem to get the last indexed grid in the list.The debugger seems to suggest that the right numbers are being read into the stream reader and they are being added to gridHolder. However, the message box at the end will always show me the LAST grid.id, regardless of the index I give it.
