View 1 RepliesThanks William, that was the ticket. Had to assign the name property on both ends [DataTable.TableName].
On a side note here: There appears to be some school of thought (no offense Marc) that the following statement is always true:
"Everything in the world can and should be made into an object."
It is, simply, not always true. There are cases where you cannot cram your 'object' into any cookie-cutter or class no matter how you try to customize it. For me to objectize this beast, I'd have to create roughly 4,000 objects. I don't have time to do that, and yet this project must run as a service. Frankly I think the developers at MickeySoft need to get out more into the real world, and see for themselves that although theory is great it does not represent true-life challenges. I am all for working with objects for the obvious benefits, but there is a reality that universals do not exist. In my trade, even 'most of the time' rarely happens.
Before they push out a new technology set, and cease support of an old one, they need to make sure that the new technology has the same capabilities the old one had.
For the record: The people who believe the above statement to be true are also the same people who would refuse to take the project I'm currently working on.
Just the same -- thank you both for your time, efforts and opinions!
I'm trying to create a WCF function that will return a table to my console testing app. I am a total noob. The data is 2-dimensional and looks like this:
23 Letter
42 Another Letter
43 Document
[Code].....
...Of course, it won't work. I just need to get the WCF to pass a basic table to my console application. The execute SQL seems to work just fine, I just can't get the data back to my application.
I need to return an error message to the client, if they have entered invalid data when calling my web service. So if my code is: [code]Is there a way to display a more user friendly error message (such as a message box or just the words "Invalid Order ID")?
View 2 RepliesI'm not sure what's wrong with the following setup. I have a View that lists a number of records, and each has a dropdown associated with it to change a value on that record. I had it all working without AJAX, but you had to change a bunch of the dropdowns then click a Submit button. I wanted to change it so that it would save the dropdown choice immediately.
My stripped down View (of type IEnumerable(Of MyTable)):
<script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftMvcAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
[Code]....
What I would like to happen is for the dropdown change to trigger the Update controller, but probably not return anything - just update the database and let the user move on. What's happening though is that a blank page is displayed with the Content value on it (i.e. "123: ABC"). It's the correct id/code combo, so the Update seems to be firing correctly, it's just choosing to wipe out the html.
like an Interop user control (VB.NET) to return and to accept multiple values from a get/set call. I assumed a user defined type (UDT), would be the correct way but I keep getting a "Variable uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic¯ from the VB6 compile. How is passing multiple values between an interop control and the VB6 application done?VB.NET (Interop) code, a control with a .NET ListView

I have been having an issue with returning records from a SQLServer database where the date the record was created is between 2 user specified dates. When I populate the DataGridView with the results, they are incorrect and do not follow any recognisable pattern.
For example, if I specify the dates 05/05/2010 and 12/05/2010 I get the attached data in the DataGridView.
Code:
Private Sub btnGo_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnGo.Click
'Clear the DataGridView

I have two functions in a class. One function returns a datatable, the other one returns a dataset. Both functions are identical except of the return type (Datatable or dataset). I would like to have only one function which returns either dataset or datatable depending on what the user of the class wants. How can I do this.
Following code shows my function returning a datatable:
Public Shared Function ExecuteSPDatatable(ByVal storedProcedure As String, ByVal ParamArray parameters() As SqlParameter) As DataTable
Dim tbl As DataTable
[Code].....
I have a Business Logic Layer that contains function that return datatables. I'm writing a function that will return just the records that begin with the string passed in. this is what I've come up with so far:
Public Function FetchBusinessAreas(ByVal area As String) As List(Of BusinessArea)
Dim AreasList As New List(Of BusinessArea)
Dim dt As DataTable
[code].....
My ASMX call is returning Content-Type = text/xml; charset=utf-8
I am using ASP.NET 3.5 and jQuery.Ajax. Have added these things are per numerous suggestions from Stack Overflow. I have done these things
Done this at web.config
<remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/>
<add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false"
type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
[Code] .....
But whatever I do, the response header is still of type xml. What part am I missing here?
I have a classic ADO command which execs a sproc and returns a RecordSet. This is being executed from a VB.NET using the PIA.However when I .Execute the command, the result returned is not an ADODB.Recordset but a System.__ComObject.
View 1 RepliesHow can i call a jquery method from vb sub routine?My code is when it returns false, the div which contains an alert message will show. Her'es my code, but its not working:

I'm building a web service client using vb .net. The web service is secured with ssl, basic authentication and also requires client certificates. So I created a web reference in Visual Studio and provided the credentials:
Dim cred As New System.Net.NetworkCredential("usr", "passwd")
Dim proxy As New SimpleFromLocal.simple
proxy.Credentials = cred
Console.WriteLine(proxy.helloWorld())
This works as expected, as long as I turn off mutual authentication on the server side.I added a client certificate like this:
Dim cert As X509Certificate = X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile(certFile)proxy.ClientCertificates.Add(cert)
The certificate is loaded, but the web service call fails. I could post the exception, but it is in german, which is an issue on its own. It basically says: Authentication failed, because the remote site closed the connection.I tried debugging the ssl handshake on the server side and it looks like the client certificate is not transmitted.So what am I missing here? Is it required to install the client certificate on the local machine?Edit: The error thrown:

Im have one heard time trying to get data back from a SP on my SQL server.Here is what I have from looking all over the net to get it working.

I have followed this tutorial for the most part to explain what I am doing. [URL]. What I need to do is figure out the best way to approach to be able to update my formview. I do not understand what the tutorial is trying to explain to me so i tried it the way I have updated a gridview before. But I am receiving "No parameterless constructor defined for this object." I tried to debug and view the callstack but it does not really tell me much.
I have my sql stored procedure to update which when executed works fine. I also have another class in which I reference the application details class.
applicant.vb
This is the code in order for when you click the view details link on the gridview it passes you off to another page that shows that applicants details it is within the same applicant.vb class. I am trying to update using the following method on the .aspx page but I receive the following error "No parameterless constructor defined for this object."
Memberdetails.aspx
just want to know if linq to sql auto updated the id column of a class (table row object) after SubmitChanges is called inserting a new row to that table, that would be fantastic, would anyone be able to confirm this?
View 2 RepliesI have a storedProcedure in SQL-Server that I am using to delete duplicates from one of the tables. This storedprocedure makes use of a cursor.I tried to create the same storedprocedure in microsoft access by just replacing the 'CREATE PROCEDURE' with 'CREATE PROC' but it didn't seem to work.
Here is the SQL- storedprocedure:- ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[csp_loginfo_duplicates] AS BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
declare @minrowid bigint
declare @empid nvarchar(15)
declare @dtpunched datetime
declare @count tinyint

I tried to search forum topics to find a tutorial that will guide me on how to achieve this however seem like most of the tutorials i were finding were confusing me more.With that being said here is what i have,Here is what I am trying to do [URL]that tutorial is exactly what I am trying to achieve however I do not understand what the supplierstableadpater, northwindtableadapters are. I can only assume that I am not doing exactly the same thing as that tutorial.
What I have is a simple sql storedprocedure that selects all employeedetails.And also another sql stored procedure that selects just a few columns from the employees table. On my frist page I am going to list all the employee names in a gridview and when they click the employee name it should take them to another page and show that employee's details. Seems like you have to use an object datasource to achieve this but is there an easier way to achieve creating a class that calls the 2 stored procedures that I have that i would be able to then link them with an objectdatsource?
I have a storedprocedure as a datasource for my crystal report (14) and would like the report to define one of the parameters internally (in the report definition), When I set the default of the parameter to True (its a bit in tsql) and set it not to prompt it still does.
I don't want user intervention here, and I have my viewer as a dialog (so they couldnt enter it even if they wanted to).
I have a stored procedure that repeats a block of T-SQL statements using WHILE logic until it finds a matching record in a table. When I execute the procedure directly from the SQL Management Studio, it works and returns a record, even when the statements within the WHILE logic have to be repeated over and over again before a matching record is found.
However, when I use the same stored procedure as the commandtext property of an sqlcommand object in Visual Studion 2008 (VB) and call the executereader method of the sqlcommand, the resulting SqlDataReader will only return a row if the T-SQL statements within the WHILE logic find a matching record after a single pass. If it takes more than one pass to find a matching record the SqlDataReader does not return a row. It's like it abandons the execution of the stored procedure after the first pass of the statements within the While logic, disregarding the repetition.
I have a function within a class which I would like to return the class itself however "return this" appears to be invalid in VB.I am using ASP.NET v1.1 if that makes a difference?Sample (extremely simplified) code is as follows:
Public Class Cart
Private sItems As String
Public Function addItem(ByVal itemName As String) As Cart

We are creating a Who wants to be a millionaire style game in VB. Our server is pulling information such as questions and answers from a Access Database and sending them to the contestants (Clients). All transfer of information is directly from the server to each client. One of the "Life Lines" we want to use is "Ask a friend", where one client is able to Instant message another client for a short time to get help on the question.

I have an ASP.NET web application (VB.NET) using an Oracle database. On an insert, I need to get the identity of the inserted row back. I am trying to use RETURNING, but I keep getting a value of 1 returned.

My brain may just be fried since it's the end of the semester, but my teacher kicked this back to fix and resubmit...she said that I am "returning the name of your function rather than your variable name".
Here is my code for all 3 forms.

These are forms to calculate the cost of getting a cell phone package.
I have been reading through Atheists posts in regards to client-server and TCP client/server connection's. But how do i go about writing a program with 1 client and server where the client side creates a text file.Once the server sees there is a text file it connects and downloads it to itself or the client pushes the text file to the server.Once on the server i will read the text file and put its info into a sql db.
