just want to know if linq to sql auto updated the id column of a class (table row object) after SubmitChanges is called inserting a new row to that table, that would be fantastic, would anyone be able to confirm this?
View 2 RepliesI have a database with about 180,000 records. I'm trying to attach a pdf file to each of those records. Each pdf is about 250 kb in size. However, after about a minute my program starts taking about about a GB of memory and I have to stop it. I tried doing it so the reference to each linq object is removed once it's updated but that doeow can I make it clear the reference?

Is there a way to auto-update a listview based on reading a column?
Requirements:
1) The code must make a call to a user-created "Private Sub" to recalculate
2) Update must be automatic. .SelectedItem or clicking a row will not work
3) The formula function cannot be included in Form_Load
I've got everything working if the user selects a row, then clicks an "update" button using .SelectedItem. But with my current program containing 200 rows, it's not feasible. Simply put, how would I go about updating a listview column (0 in this case) based off a call to a formula, then updating the row?

I have an application that takes a series of reports and sends them as attachments in an email to a specified group of email accounts.
When I run the Java version of this using apache commons and the same setting, the email is sent. However, when I run the VB.NET version of the code, it fails on my local machine and on the client machine.
I have a VB.NET web application running on a server that uses similar code. I tried that code locally and it fails. Yet, the web application is working perfectly.
Why is it that the Java application can send the email, but the .NET application cannot?[code]....

The helper function I have written seems to do everything I want apart from update the db. Stepping through the code, the oldSr is updated by the new sr parameter but no update on submit changes.

View 4 RepliesI'm building a web service client using vb .net. The web service is secured with ssl, basic authentication and also requires client certificates. So I created a web reference in Visual Studio and provided the credentials:

This works as expected, as long as I turn off mutual authentication on the server side.I added a client certificate like this:

The certificate is loaded, but the web service call fails. I could post the exception, but it is in german, which is an issue on its own. It basically says: Authentication failed, because the remote site closed the connection.I tried debugging the ssl handshake on the server side and it looks like the client certificate is not transmitted.So what am I missing here? Is it required to install the client certificate on the local machine?Edit: The error thrown:

I have a multi-client DB (multitennant) with several tables.Two of these tables are tblEmployees and tblTitles.Now I have a relationship from tblEmployees.empTitle to tblTitles.ttlID.That far everything is working.But now I have to make the application for multiple clients/tennants.So I added the fields tblEmployees.empClient and tblTitles.ttlClient and included them into the association.This works fine for reading and for setting the persons title as well.But if I try to remove the title (set it to NULL), SQL to Linq tries to modify both tblEmployees.empTitle and tblEmploy ees. empClient with is not allowed because tblEmployees.empClient is part of the primary key.And so I get the following error:[code]How can I tell SQL to Linq only to modify field tblEmployees.empTitle???

After SubmitChanges is called, no new row is created, and "test" is zero. No errors are generated. I have no idea why it's not trying to insert the row.
I have an off-line project. User uses a laptop to input data off line into local SQL server express. Once connected to domain (on line), local data will sync with remote SQL server using sync framework. (It is done, works fine)One job left:Since another user used another program to update some tables in remote SQL server, such as CUSTOMER, SHIPINFO, my off-line program need to update these new data once connect to domain.Here is what I design in Pseudo (take CUSTOMER as example)

I have a datagridview which is bound to a local databse table through a Linq to SQL class.
Everything works as I would expect, when the application runs, up to a point.
If, in the datagridview tasks pane I enable Adding, Editing and Deleting all work as expected.
If I disable Adding & Deleting, leaving Editing enabled, Editing works as expected.
If I disable Deleting & Editing, but leave Adding enabled, Adding does not work, despite the row for new records being displayed. I can move around the row but not enter data.
I suspect somehow its the datasource as opposed to the datagridview that is the cause of my problem but as I say, I can add rows if the Enable Editing option is selected.
Changing the relevant properties programatically makes no difference.
I've been searching for the reason for a couple of days without success.
I have a workaround, by leaving Enable Editing set and programatically setting each row during the RowPostPaint event to be readonly except the row for new records. I would just like to understand what is going on.
This feels like a completely basic question, but, for the life of me, I can't seem to work out an elegant solution.
Basically, I am doing a LINQ query creating a new object from the query. In the new object, I want to generate a auto-incremented number to allow me to keep a selection order for later use (named Iter in my example).
Here is my current solution that does what I need:

I am doing work on a new logging database that I have decided to use UTC datetime to store all datetime values since our company spans timezones and multiple sources and timezones are logging events.However the problem that I cannot get my head around is formatting the datetimes in my datagridview for my user application.Our applications use mostly LINQ to SQL to manipulate our data from generic SQL CRUD calls, so I am hoping I can mask/format the DGV to get the conversion or some LINQ function rather than having to write special SQL stored procedures to do it every time I need to display the data.. (I have found multiple sources that explain how to do that)

View 13 RepliesI've built a VSTO add-in for Microsoft Word and deployed to a webserver. Installation goes off without a hitch. When I create an updated version of the application and redeploy it to the webserver, the add-in correctly detects that there's a new version and attempts to update it. This is where I'm running into the following error (the "xxx" indicates that I had to censor something):url...The customization cannot be installed because another version is currently installed and cannot be upgraded from this location. To install this version of the customization,first use Add or Remove Programs to uninstall this program: xxx. Then install the new customization from the following location: url...This appears to me as if I left a local reference of some sort in my Project, but I can't find anything of the sort. The only reference to this file is within the xxx.vbproj.FileListAbsolute.txt file that's generated in the bin/Debug folder.Not sure if this is also a clue, but I'm seeing Registry Keys added referencing this as the location of the VSTO Project Manifest.
View 1 RepliesI have constructed my database and I have used auto increment the ID's of each column. When I was testing and inserting data into my tables the auto increment of these column's of course incremented.
Now I am looking to start each individual Id column at 1 and not at the number where it is now.
I know it has something to do with using max value and +1. I have deleted the entire table and have tried everything to re-insert my data and start the ID's at 1, but I have had no luck.

I know within Vb I can use a datagrid view and add there and it starts at the max value of the column +1, but when I have another form to add data within columns the column number is not in numerical order, How do include code within that seperate form to auto increment ID column numerically?
how i can add a update program in my application so it can be automatically updatted via the internet and can notify users an update is available. i wouls also prefer an auto update application.
