How To Convert UTC Datetime Column To Local Time In Datagridview
Sep 1, 2011
I am doing work on a new logging database that I have decided to use UTC datetime to store all datetime values since our company spans timezones and multiple sources and timezones are logging events. However the problem that I cannot get my head around is formatting the datetimes in my datagridview for my user application. Our applications use mostly LINQ to SQL to manipulate our data from generic SQL CRUD calls, so I am hoping I can mask/format the DGV to get the conversion or some LINQ function rather than having to write special SQL stored procedures to do it every time I need to display the data.. (I have found multiple sources that explain how to do that)
I used .NET Framework 1.1 in C/S project before. Now I have updated the project to use .NET Framework 3.5 without modifying source code, but I have found that : the Remoted DateTime values can not be converted to the equivalent local time of a remote computer that is in a different time zone. In .NET Framework 1.1, the DateTime values can be converted automatically.
I have following function to get utc time. dtuniversal I pass to stroed proc of sql server data type time. it works fine upto values 6 PM eastern ( which is 23 utc) it fails on 7 PM eastern ( which is 24 utc) I get error "Invalid value for this metadata".
Private Function GetUTCTime(ByVal time As TimeSpan) As TimeSpan Dim dt As New DateTime(time.Ticks) dt = dt.ToUniversalTime()
I'm getting date-time from a source as 20110731183330. I want to convert it to '7/31/2011 06:33:30 PM'. Is there a one line code for the same in vb.net?
I have the properties. I have the format property set to TIME. The text box on the form now shows the time. But when you click on the pull down, you get the date picker.
I've got a datatable with a DateTime field that I want to sort using a DataView. I only need the Time part of the column though, and not the date. I can't get it to show just the time and not the date as long as its a DateTime column. I know I could convert it to a string to get the time, but then it wont sort correctly.
Is there a framework class that converts the partial day strings on these forums to a DateTime? Examples are "a few seconds ago", "19 minutes ago" and 3" hours 26 minutes ago",
I have a window based datagridview with examdate as one the editable datetime column .Now i want user to update or change the date to a fully valid format(dd:mm:yyyy) just on pressing enter key within the datagridview. A popup message must appear when user enter wrong date.
With my datagridview I have column for datetime. I used the following for format. Mydatagrid1.Columns(3).DefaultCellStyle.Format = "dd/MM/yyyy" But the problem is it's getting input like MM/dd/yyyy and after pressing enter it's changing to dd/mm/yyyy style. So is it possible to read input like "dd/MM/yyyy".
I am building an application that needs to store different time of day values in dateTime fields of an Access database.I am trying to enter the time value's via a DataGridView using TextBoxColomn s.The coloms are formatted with the defaultCellStyle property to show only the time part of the datetime. After i save the entered data and look in the database itself, i see not only the time, but also the (current) date in the datetimefields. This raises a problem when i want to compare the timevalues later on in the functionality of the program i am building.(Of course it is simple to seperate the date and time part in coding of the program, but it would be more elegant (i think) if i could just save only the time part in the database (and have the date part of de datetimes left to 0))I have tryed via the CellFormatting and the CellParsing events, but no luck.I am new to visual basic and probebly missing out on something.
I have got a MySQL database that has got some dates stored in a Date format (YYYY-MM-DD) however when i try and import the data i get an error saying: "Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime"
how to convert a string that is entered in a column to proper or title case. For example, user enters "now is the time". Code will capitalize the first letter of each word "Now Is The Time". In VBA I would execute the following code in the afterupdate event: me.fieldname = strconv(me.fieldname, vbProperCase).
I am developing a project using VB2010. In the attached example I created a Form.
On tha form I put a GroupBox Containing a DataGridView.
I am trying to set, at Design time, the ColumnHeadersDefaultCellstyle Font of the grid, defining the Font, the size and the style (Bold). After saving the project or running it, The Font properties of the grid headers are changed to the Font properties of the containing
GroupBox.
Why is that so? How can I set, at Design Time, a different font for the Grid Column headers and the GroupBox?
To demostrate the problm - Try to modify the Font of the grid headers, in the attached example,
to "Bold" "Size 12", Run the application and see the result.
Apparently, an unbound datagridview control cannot be filled at design time, so I have to create rows + fill cells through code. Currently, I use the following type of code to refer to cells:
expressed in my local time. What is the best way? Currently, I am doing this:
Dim NovGmt As Date = New Date(2010, 11, 1, 0, 0, 0) Dim Nov1AsLocal As Date = GetGmtExpressedAsLocal(NovGmt) Private Function GetGmtExpressedAsLocal(ByVal gmtDate As Date) As Date
[code].....
tell me difference between the Date and DateTime datatypes? Is DateTime newer than Date or is it just a synonym for Date? If the latter, why have both?
I'm having a problem with my DataGridView. When I double-click on any column, with exception to Date & Time, the grid advances by 1. As you can see the 2nd row is highlighted in blue, I actually double-clicked on the first one, under "Sent By." (See attached image)
Here is my code
VB.NET
Public Class frmPickAssignment Dim dteStart As Date Dim dteEnd As Date
1st label is "Clock" this pulls the time from the users current time zone/local time
2nd label is "UTCClock" Which would be UTC time
Now I have this for the first label: clock.Text = Format(TimeOfDay, "hh:mm:ss tt")
Which would give the users current time zone/local time. As for the UTC.. how would I add in for the UTC time from where the user is located at? I did some searches.. but couldnt find what I was looking for.. IM pretty sure its not as easy as getting the users current time zone/local time.. So im assuming that Theres a "bit more" code into getting UTC time..
I have a program that reads a file with Pacific Daylight Time, I want users to see the time and date in their local environment.
At present I have in Australia a time difference of 18 hours, so I have a list box with -24 to +24 and currently set at 18, my code is elementary as long as I have moved past day one of the month it suits me personally, but I want to distribute my app, so I need something better.
I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?
I have a dropdownlist that displays time only.Like 8:00AM,8:30AM............When i save this time to database i want to save as todays date + time.eg:8:00AM as 03/30/2009 8:00:00:000.
I have this date format yy/MM/dd HH:mm:ss ex: 12/02/21 10:56:09. The problem is, when i try to convert it to different format using this code: CDate("12/02/21 10:56:09").ToString("MMM. dd, yyyy HH:mm:ss") It displays Dec. 12, 2021 10:56:09. How can i correctly format it to: Feb. 21, 2012 10:56:09? This format is returned when i check balance inquiry fro my SMS based application.
