I've got a datatable with a DateTime field that I want to sort using a DataView. I only need the Time part of the column though, and not the date. I can't get it to show just the time and not the date as long as its a DateTime column. I know I could convert it to a string to get the time, but then it wont sort correctly.

View 2 RepliesI am doing work on a new logging database that I have decided to use UTC datetime to store all datetime values since our company spans timezones and multiple sources and timezones are logging events.However the problem that I cannot get my head around is formatting the datetimes in my datagridview for my user application.Our applications use mostly LINQ to SQL to manipulate our data from generic SQL CRUD calls, so I am hoping I can mask/format the DGV to get the conversion or some LINQ function rather than having to write special SQL stored procedures to do it every time I need to display the data.. (I have found multiple sources that explain how to do that)

Now I have updated the project to use .NET Framework 3.5 without modifying source code, but I have found that : the Remoted DateTime values can not be converted to the equivalent local time of a remote computer that is in a different time zone. I'm having a problem with my DataGridView. When I double-click on any column, with exception to Date & Time, the grid advances by 1. As you can see the 2nd row is highlighted in blue, I actually double-clicked on the first one, under "Sent By." (See attached image)

the msgbox gives me the following result: 29/01/2011 18:49:21 my sqlException gives me the following error: 102 - Incorrect syntax near '18'. Is it better that i set the datatype to char in my sql database? It's maybe a bit easier? When I do that, can I calculate with these date?

Here is the senario: I want the user to be able to choose which columns they want sort on. The way I envisaged was to show a form with a listbox, a grid and 3 buttons (Add to sort, Remove from sort and Apply Sort).
The list box would be populated from the parent form grid column headings.
The grid will show the columns and sort direction.
Button 1 would add the selected item of the list box to the grid.
Button 2 would remove from the grid the selected row.
Button 3 would Apply the Sort in the order of the grid and the columns SortDirection.

All prices are in decimal. But I found that when clicking the column header of DGV, the price column is sorted like a string. For example:
9.0, 13.5, 8->13.5, 8, 9.0
But I want sort numerically, that is 8,9.0,13.5
I wonder why decimal type cannot be sorted numerically. How to achieve this?

It looks like it's because the day is systematically added by ParseExact even though I only specify the time in the format. My question is: How can I read just the time with DateTime.ParseExact?

My problem is that with this method I always need (Of String) for it to work, so the date columns are also managed as Strings witch is the problem. Is there a way to use the correct type so the sorting is based on the type of the column?
I have a dataview object that is being populated by database fields - so I can sort on these partulular columns by specifying the actual column names without any difficulty. However, I have been asked to add a few more columns to the dataview, and these columns will be calculated columns, not directly derived from an underlying database column.The users want to be able to sort on these new columns as well - even though there is no actual column name I can use to sort.

I have an unbound datagridview that has 2 columns. Both columns contain numeric data only and will only go to 55 in count. How do you sort a Datagridview Column in collating sequence? I basically want to sort from 55 down to 1 and 1 to 55 in their respective numerical order.
