May 22, 2012I have a text and numeric data in a column of excel. data is 1,2,3,A,B,C,D,10,11,12. I want to do sort these by SQL. and i want get data in below order 1,2,3,10,11,12,A,B,C,D.

Sorting A Dataview Object Based On A Column Number?
May 10, 2011I have a dataview object that is being populated by database fields - so I can sort on these partulular columns by specifying the actual column names without any difficulty. However, I have been asked to add a few more columns to the dataview, and these columns will be calculated columns, not directly derived from an underlying database column.The users want to be able to sort on these new columns as well - even though there is no actual column name I can use to sort.
I have not been able to see where I can sort a dataview based on the actual column integer value used when the user clicks the appropriate heading to sort.

I want to sort the column that i higlighted in accending order.This is my code so far:

i want to sort the above column inorder that, all the line contain Twst will come first then blue, red and finaly black. This is my code so far

Is there a way to have it sort lowest to highest like 1 2 11 12 instead of 1 11 12 2?
Programmatically Changing GridView Column Header Text Breaks Sorting
Jan 26, 2011I have ASP gridview bound to an Entity Data source which works no problem, however when I try to programmatically change a header columns text, it appears to break the styling and will not allow sorting either, below is how I am trapping and changing the Header row column text.

Jun 9, 2009I'm trying to sort multple colums in the DataGridView which is unbound. I would prefer to sort by using a DataTable/DataView but for some reason another developer in my team experienced other problems relating to sorting so he abandoned using the DataTable to fill the grid :(
Here is the senario: I want the user to be able to choose which columns they want sort on. The way I envisaged was to show a form with a listbox, a grid and 3 buttons (Add to sort, Remove from sort and Apply Sort).
The list box would be populated from the parent form grid column headings.
The grid will show the columns and sort direction.
Button 1 would add the selected item of the list box to the grid.
Button 2 would remove from the grid the selected row.
Button 3 would Apply the Sort in the order of the grid and the columns SortDirection.

how I can use the IComparer to sort on multiple columns that a user has specified or another way to sort on multiple columns using unbound data.

When the user clicks on the column head the datagridview is sorted - which is fine for alphabetic fields but I have a column that contains numeric fields and goes from -100 to +100. This is sorted incorrectly by the number (all the 1s first then all the 2s and so on, ignoring the minus sign). How do I get it to sort my column numerically?

if i set the sorted property of listbox1 to true that code will add 0 before the inputted number so that the sorted property in listbox1 will be usefull in sorting integers.

Mar 16, 2012I have a datagridview which is bounded to a table m_table constructed in my code. A column named price has decimal type.
DGV.DataSource = m_table
DGV.Columns(columnPrice).ValueType = System.Type.GetType("System.Decimal")
All prices are in decimal. But I found that when clicking the column header of DGV, the price column is sorted like a string. For example:
9.0, 13.5, 8->13.5, 8, 9.0
But I want sort numerically, that is 8,9.0,13.5
I wonder why decimal type cannot be sorted numerically. How to achieve this?

Dec 18, 2010In 2007 I created a program that reads weather data into a listview. When a user clicks on the column header it fires off the column click event handler which calls the Sort Wrapper function. The Sort wrapper will re-order items either in ascending or descending order.
I have never been able to get negative integers to sort properly. I have created a stripped down listview program with a few numbers in the grid for testing. (see attached program zip file).When you run the program, click on the column header that says "Val" and you will see right away that the numbers do not sort correctly.

My problem is that with this method I always need (Of String) for it to work, so the date columns are also managed as Strings witch is the problem. Is there a way to use the correct type so the sorting is based on the type of the column?

Sep 5, 2010I wrote a function to format numbers like this: 123456100,12 -> 123.456.100,12 (I have a function too, which converts numbers from this strings).Now, I have a dgv and a column with these numbers (or rather strings). The sort mode is set to automatic. If I sort the column, it doesn't work, because the values are not really numbers, but strings. But I get the same result (the sorting doesn't work), if I use the formatnumber function (this returns strings too).
I could use the programmatic sort mode and before sorting I format the strings to numbers, then sort the column, and then format the numbers like above. But this is a bit slow (the dgv has appr. 800 rows), and in this case, I haven't an arrow next to the column header text.is it possible to sort the column like a normal number-column with automatic sortmode?
