Asp.net Mvc - Sorting Datatable With Linq With Correct Datatype Of A Column?
Mar 27, 2012
I have this code that use to sort a datatable.
Dim sortingIndex As Integer = orderby
Dim DataTableNew As DataTable = New DataTable
DataTableNew = dt.Clone
Dim query = (From c In dt.AsEnumerable Order By c.Field(Of String)(sortingIndex) Ascending)
query.CopyToDataTable(DataTableNew, LoadOption.OverwriteChanges)
My problem is that with this method I always need (Of String) for it to work, so the date columns are also managed as Strings witch is the problem. Is there a way to use the correct type so the sorting is based on the type of the column?

I need to sort a DataTable or DataGridView by a column that is a string value, but with null/empty values at the BOTTOM when sorting ASCENDING.The DataTable is NOT populated by a SQL statement, so no order by.If I doDataGridView1.Sort(New RowComparer(System.ComponentModel.ListSortDirection.Ascending))then it throws an exception, saying that the DataGridView is DataBound, which is correct, but doesn't help me, and I want to keep it databound.

I have a Dynamic DataTable Created at runtime. The Setup is like so
Id | Name | Age
-----------------
3 | Mike | 21
6 | John | 43
8 | Sara | 34
What I am trying to do is come up with a linq statement I could use to find and update specific rows.
Such as a statement to change AGE to '33' WHERE ID = '3'
My code So far is:
-[VB.NET]-
Dim MyRow As DataRow = From column In MyTable.Rows Where column("Id") = 3
MyRow(0)("Age") = 33
But this is not updating my DataTable entry.

I need to sort a datatable. I do it with linq this an example
Dim query = From c In dt.AsEnumerable _
Order By c.Field(Of DateTime?)("LastPurchaseDate"), _
c.Field(Of String)("LastName") Descending
Dim dv As DataView = query.AsDataView
But my problem is that i need to sort the fields not by passing the name of the column but the index of that.

i have been redirected from the vb.net technet forum to use asp.net forums instead.
I am using some COM components within an asp-page or vbscript. As an example the code flows like this in vbscript:
set objectA=CreateObject("SomeComponent.A")
objectA.PropertyA="Some String"
objectA.PropertyB=ValueA
set objectB=CreateObject("SomeComponent.B")
set ObjectC=ObjectB.MethodA ObjectA
This code works fine and i can continue with the data in ObjectC.
Now i want to change this into ASP.Net with VB. If i open the COM type libraries in Oleview32, the datatype expected in MethodA is VARIANT. So i tried to pass into a type of Object in MethodA. This leads to an exception and code stops.
Is there a way to determin or to trace what vbscript is passing into MethodA so that i can get an idea of how to prepare the datatype i have to pass into the method-call? Are there any tools for that? So ctypeing to an object does not do the trick. A better documentation about the COM Object is not available.
The first reply from the vb.net guys was´, if the COM libraries can be hosted on iis? So, they are used excessively within asp pages on iis 7.5, if they can be used in asp.net, i don not know. I am not a developer but i have good understanding in writing code and using asp.net.

I have a form that allows users to enter information into a few textboxes. When users click save, the information will be transferred into the datagridview.
My problem now is, for instance, there is a textbox called "Price" with the datatype "money" which users are only allowed to enter numbers. If users enter alphabets, errors will occur. I don't wanna use try catch, I would like to try different methods such stopping users from entering anything into the textbox when the datatype isn't correct - nothing will appear in the textbox when users hit all the keys in the keyboard except for numbers.

ASPX:
<a
href="ShowImageVB.aspx?id=<%# Eval("ProdID") %>">
<asp:Image
runat="server"
ID="ImageThumbnail"
AlternateText="Click here to open the real size image"
ImageUrl='<%# "ShowImageVB.aspx?thumbnail=true&ID="& Eval("ProdID").toString%>'
Style="border-width:
0px;"
/>
</a>
Code Behind:
Dim data As DataView = SqlDataSource1.[Select](New DataSourceSelectArguments())
The above code does not seems to work when I change my ProductID to UniqueIdentifier Datatype. This is the error I have ""Input string was not in a correct format."
But when change the ProductID to Int datatype is working fine.

I have a window application created in VB.net 2005 and the backend is sql. I make a call to the database and it returns a datatable. When I loop through it, I get a value of -1 for my field "Rush" which is a bit datatype. when I pass the sql into the analyzer, I see the value should be a 1 so not sure why it's giving me a -1. Here's some of the code that's in the page: Dim tblSendEmail As DataTable
tblSendEmail = oService.GetSendEmailInfo 'Goes to a webservice and returns a record set in the datatable
For Each row As DataRow In tblSendEmail.Rows
iRush = row("rush")
next

I have a dataset with numerous tables.I have changed the column type of a couple of columns in the source DB form smallint to int.No I need to update the datasets (and eventually the code) to the appropriate datatype.Rather than hunt around the dataset and find all the places where these columns are referenced is there a way to direct the dataset to go back to the DB, reread the queries and update the datatypes.I know I can either change the field or one by one go to each table and force it reread the query but I want the dataset to do it in mass.
