I am trying to convert a DLL function call which has the Callback function routine called within the DLL function call.The DLL function call signature is like this:
typedef void *HANDLE;
typedef HANDLE HACQDESC;
DECLARE_HANDLE (HWND);
[code]....
how to convert this DLL call to VB.NET and also how to create the callback function and send it as parameter to this function
call.
This is my first month for migrating from vb6 to vb.net.
i've simple code here :
this main form .:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub LinkLabel1_LinkClicked(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.LinkLabelLinkClickedEventArgs) Handles LinkLabel1.LinkClicked
[Code]....
The main function receives data, uses additional functions to calculates the result and gives it back. But at one point, the function needs data from the SQL Server. I wrote a second UDF, made it visible and deployed it to the SQL Server. I see now two functions under > programmability > functions > scalar value functions:
1. The main function (IsCalcDay) and
2. The function with the data access (IsHoliday)
If I call directly the second function from VST in the debug mode, it works fine, bur if I call it via the main function, the code stops if the connection will be opened. The error is "Data access in this context is not permitted. The context is a function or method that is not marked with DataAccessKind.Read SystemDataAccessKind.Read or a callback to retrieve data from the FillRow method of a table-valued function or a UDT validation method." (translatet from German, probably slightly differnt in English)
VST (2010 prof) and the SQL Server (2008 R2) are running in my virtual W7 maschine.
Here is the code of the second function:
Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.SqlTypes
[Code]....
Why can I open the connection if I call the function directly, but it fails if the function is called from another function?
I have created a User Control (UC) where user type the information it needed and save it ti MS SQL Database and also have created a User Control dedicated for it's button, since my main form has split container and has two panels, one for UC which contain the button only and the other one for my Main UC where user enter the information.I created a Module that contain the function on adding the data type in UC Main to the database.
[Code]...
on My UCButton named "Save" I just call the function AddUserInformation. But the problem is the variable where it bind to the ucUserControlMain textbox remains Blank, When i query the my database table, only the UserInforID and the DateAdded has been updated and the other column remains blank where the variable get it in the UCMain Textbox...
In Access, it is easy to call a user defined function in a sql statment, exampleSub AAdim mDb as[code]...

I wish that if user clicks on different location on object1, it will call the javascript function. Is it possible to do this? If it's possible, how should I write the calling in the ActiveX object?

Is there a way to define an array inside of the sub call parentheses?
Private Sub sub_name(byval sString, arrString)
sub_name("Some Text", array.{"","",""})
What I've been doing is passing a string and using a split on it to break it into an array in the Sub/Function, but I was wondering if there was a way to make the array inside the parentheses. I've looked through Google, but I'm guessing I'm not asking the right questions or it's not possible.
I have a few textbox for data display and RS232 communication in my application. After I send characters on RS232, I want text boxes display feedback characters from RS232 receive. So in SerialPort_DataReceived() i was told to use Invoke to display received characters on TextBox1, TexBox2.how to define delegate for TextBox1 and call Invoke()?
View 9 RepliesWhat is the preferred method of adding the current date/time into an SQL Server table with INSERT Command and executenonquery? I'm expecting something like ...
cmd.Parameters.Add("@theDate", SqlDbType.VarChar, 20)

I'm trying to create an equivalent to #define from C++ as a shortcut to a ridiculously long DLL call.
TheThingBase.TheSubThing.FurtherSub.TheThingIActuallyNeed(string). This obviously is a pain to write out every time, and will clutter up my code.
In C++ I could put "#define _GET = TheThingBase.TheSubThing.FurtherSub.TheThingIActuallyNeed(string).I am not seeing this functionality or even a close resemblance anywhere.
I am trying to call this private function, but am missing somthing, anybody point me in the right direction Private Function DL_WebPage(ByVal _URL As String) As String This is what I have tried, but with no success: call DL_webpage But this comes up with an error
View 3 RepliesWe know that the DLL function can be called from our mainprogram and return value. I would like to know, when we run DLL function, can we call a sub in our mainprogram (from DLL function) and return a value to DLL fucntion.
View 3 RepliesI have a bunch of VB.NET programs that have a general purpose logging function to log events, errors, exceptions, etc. It looks like this:
Sub LogMe(Msg as string)
LstLog.items.add(now.tostring & " " & Msg)
End Sub
I wrote a few VB.NET DLLs that contain classes used my my VB.NET programs. In thoses DLL classes, I would like to also trap some events, errors, exceptions, etc. But I want them to be logged using my main LogMe function. Here is some pseudo-code of what I was looking for:
' Main program code
imports MyLib
' Initialize program
[Code]...
I assume I will need to define Delegates to save my LogMe fonction pointer
I am a beginning programmer and am tying to add a database to my visual basic 2005 express program. I have a nice working window but now a database needs to be attached. Following the add items and selecting the sqldatabase icon (and change the name) I get the following message: "Generating user instances in SQLServer is disabled. Use sp-configure 'user instances enabled' to generate user instances". I am trying for 2 days to find out what to do.
Aparently, all the solutions on the internet are for wizards but not for apprentences. I hope to become a computer wizzard but are far from it now. I scanned my computer for the file sp-configure but it does not exist. I tried sp_configure as a DOS command, checked all VB menu options to find etc. On the internet the language is out of my league and jumps too quickly.

View 10 RepliesI have a function called DieRoll. In the function I have the following setup.
Dim objRandom as New Random
Dim intRoll as Integer
intRoll = objRandom.Next(1,7)
Return intRoll
Everything works as expected as far as generating a random number (1 - 6) is concerned, except for one problem. If I have a series of calls to the function one after another, the numbers come up the same. Is there a way to make sure that each call to the function is much more random?
I have a form that I load to that form a control ("user control") that i build.
In this control there is a button. I want that every time the user press the button it will call the function that located in the form(with parameters).
I dont know how to do it. What I did so far is when the form loads, it also load to it GUI the control that I build.
I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
Here's my call:

I want to create an ExpressionTree where a Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vektor) should be called. So I use
Expression.Call(Forces(0).Function.Method, {Vec1, Vec2, Vec3, Vec4, Double1, Double2})(Vec1-4, Double1-2 are declared as ParameterExpression and Forces(0).Function as Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vector). But I get an AgrumentException, because Forces(0).Function.Method has seven Arguments. (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Closure as seventh argument at Index 0).
I am working to make a function that will update the back color of a text box based on multiple variables values. I can write the code to do the calculation, but I am not sure how to make the function realize which text box to update (as I will have about 30 different boxes). Below is the code that I have for each box so far, but I will have quite a few more, and would rather use a function to reduce the amount of code, and also make it cleaner as well.
If sngPreviousPrimaryPropertyTotal >= sngPrimaryPropertyTotalCost Then
txtPreviousPrimaryPropertyTotal.BackColor = ColorProgramLightGreen
Else
txtPreviousPrimaryPropertyTotal.BackColor = ColorProgramLightRed
End If
[Code] .....
Or is there a way that I can tell the function that it's updating the text box that call the function in the first place? Say if txtBox1 has updated text and calls the function, then the function 'knows' to update txtBox1, but will update txtBox2 when it's called by txtBox2.
I have an application that allows the user to define text in a rich textbox. I would like to give the user the ability to define text for one or more languages. I don't think this will be a problem using the rich textbox as it allows for unicode characters and DBCS (please let me know if this is incorrect). My question is, I display this text throughout the app in other controls as well, such as a listbox, label, etc. by acquiring the RTF's Text property (plain text). Are there problems with other controls displaying unicode/DBCS characters? I realize that I may have to toggle the font of the control in question depending on the language (I will allow the user to specify a default font per language).

I'd like to create a user-defined data type in VB.NET but don't know how to do it.Take an example.......say there's a variable to control the action of a timer control. The possible actions would be "no action", "run timer", and "stop timer."I could do this with an integer (e.g. 0=no action, 1=run timer, 2=stop timer), but I'd rather create a data type so that the options are more explanatory than a simple integer. Like so....
Private Timer_Action as MyDataType
Timer_Action=MyDataType.RunTimer

I need to define sql command to retieve user name, password and balance from database..
