Passing User Object Between Forms?

Mar 6, 2011

I am having some difficulty getting my head around passing objects between forms and hoped someone might put me on the right track... I have five forms: frmMain, frmLogin, rmAdminMode, frmUserMode, frmUserMode, frmUserModeDeepThere are two main use-cases: admin mode and user mode.Admin Mode: As the project starts it runs frmMain. Clicking a button stops the autologin (simple timer) and will invoke frmLogin (using .ShowDialog). The user is prompted for the users' ID number (four digits) and pass-code (again four digits).frmLogin will query a back-end database to authorise or reject the login attempt (this bit is all working fine) and then return control to frmMain. If the user is a valid admin frmMain will then invoke frmAdminMode.

frmMain -> frmLogin
<- frmLogin
-> frmAdminMode

Variables To Define Which Object To Update?

Jun 12, 2011

I am trying to figure out how to use variables to define which object to update. I could of course use a case statement to pick the object based on a variable, but it seems to me like there should be a more direct way. Here is a smaller example of what I would like to do.In my form I have 4 picture boxes (pbox1, pbox2, pbox3, and pbox4). I then want to change the image in one of the boxes, but the box I want to change will be determined by a variable (say maybe a randomly generated number). Is there some way to dynamically concatenate the "pbox" with the number that VB would understand it and use it as an object?In this example I could easily build a case statement to handle the selection, but in my real program there will be many more than 4 options.

VS 2010 : Define IO.FileInfo Object As Private

Apr 23, 2010

In the following code as you see I am defining myFile inside the timer sub; which of course is not a good idea. The FilePath is derived in form load before the timer kicks in. How can I declare myFile globally so it can be used in timer sub as well as in form load?

Private Sub tmrInterval_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tmrInterval.Tick
Dim myFile As New IO.FileInfo(FilePath)
If myFile.Exists Then
...
...

I want something like this:

Public Class Form1
private myFile As New IO.FileInfo()

'but I do not have strMessageFilePath value yet, that will be achieved in form load.

Allows The User To Define Text In A Rich Textbox?

Sep 14, 2010

I have an application that allows the user to define text in a rich textbox. I would like to give the user the ability to define text for one or more languages. I don't think this will be a problem using the rich textbox as it allows for unicode characters and DBCS (please let me know if this is incorrect). My question is, I display this text throughout the app in other controls as well, such as a listbox, label, etc. by acquiring the RTF's Text property (plain text). Are there problems with other controls displaying unicode/DBCS characters? I realize that I may have to toggle the font of the control in question depending on the language (I will allow the user to specify a default font per language).

Object Oreinted Random Failure - Define Two Instances Of Class And Configure ?

Oct 27, 2009

I am having a problem with a and OOP class i made that contains a sub that creates random integers.

Problem is if i define two instances of this class and configure them(name in this case) then they both display different names but the random integers are ALWAY the same. in this case having the integers the same kinda kills the idea of the program.

Is it possible that the random part only every works for one class, but if .NET is fully OOP then this should not be possible... right?

Some of my Code (broken down to something smaller) i will display for obvious reasons.

Define Possible Values For User-created Data Type?

Mar 10, 2011

I'd like to create a user-defined data type in VB.NET but don't know how to do it.Take an example.......say there's a variable to control the action of a timer control. The possible actions would be "no action", "run timer", and "stop timer."I could do this with an integer (e.g. 0=no action, 1=run timer, 2=stop timer), but I'd rather create a data type so that the options are more explanatory than a simple integer. Like so....

Private Timer_Action as MyDataType
Timer_Action=MyDataType.RunTimer

Deployment :: Enable User To Define Install Location?

Jul 26, 2009

My freeware program launches 50 freeware programs and provides a guide for PC maintenance and health. As mentioned in another post, my program was reviewed on Sofpedia. One thing the Reviewer criticized was the fact that my program requires the user to install these 50 programs in the default locations (usually C:Program Filesx). The reviewer thinks it would be best if the user can install to any location he/she desires and my program be able to point to the proper location when launching the application.

Define Initialized Arrays In Functions And Return Values Based On User Input Visual Basic?

Apr 4, 2011

In this application I need to allow users to enter a month as integer (1-12) then use integer tryparse to validate that input, that seems to be the easy part. I need two create two functions, one that returns the name of the month and the other returns the number of days in that month. The arrays are supposed to be defined and initialized within the function so that the main program can take the user input and call the two functions, then return the appropriate values as output to labels. I am not sure how to declare the arrays in their appropriate functions and then how to call those functions to retrieve the right value from the function.

Send Mail Using A Variable To Define The "From" User?

Jun 2, 2011

The company I work for has an application where various users can log in and add their own "clients". Currently, via sql mail a confirmation email goes out to the client who has been added but the "From" value is generic i.e.Admin@CompanyA.com. What we need is a way for an email message to be sent to the new client but have the "From" email be that of the user adding the new client. When a user registers to use our system they supply basic info including their email, so when they log in and then add a client we would like to have an email sent to that client but have the "From" address be that of the logged in user instead of the generic one from our company. The email would have to be sent from our company's server but we want the sendee to be able to directly "reply" to the sender's email.

Wpf - Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object When Using Custom User Control

Feb 10, 2012

I have created a custom user control (JCUserControl), and I am using it in the Main Window. And my Main Window has no codebehind. I have this in the JCUserControl codebehind:

Private Sub ImmediateRadioButton_Checked(sender As System.Object, e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles ImmediateRadioButton.Checked
SomeTextBox.IsEnabled = False
End Sub

When I run it, it fails with the NullReferenceException. If I comment out the SomeTextBox.IsEnabled = false, it runs without any problems.

Edit: Found out that I could just check if the radio buttons are loaded before doing whatever I want to do.

Private Sub ImmediateRadioButton_Checked(sender As System.Object, e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles ImmediateRadioButton.Checked
If ImmediateRadioButton.IsLoaded Then
SomeTextBox.IsEnabled = False
End If
End Sub

Handle An Object's Object Property Changed Event In .NET Windows Forms?

Jun 7, 2012

I know how to handle a single objects property changed event very easily. I want to handle a objects property changed event that is part of another object.

Given Object:

[ObjectY = Y]
+ Public WithEvents X As ObjectX

I would like to do something like:

Private Sub XPropertyChanged() Handles Y.X.PropertyChanged

Right now I need to create a object that equals the object inside that object and then handle this variable pointers property changed, but that is just annoying.

How To Move A TextBox Object In A MS Word Document

I tried to find a way using ActiveDocument.StoryRanges(WdStoryType.wdTextFrameStory) but I got stuck here.

Is there a way to move (the left upper corner of) the TextBox object to a specific position in the Word document?
