Generating User Instances In SQLServer Is Disabled
Apr 18, 2007
I am a beginning programmer and am tying to add a database to my visual basic 2005 express program. I have a nice working window but now a database needs to be attached. Following the add items and selecting the sqldatabase icon (and change the name) I get the following message: "Generating user instances in SQLServer is disabled. Use sp-configure 'user instances enabled' to generate user instances". I am trying for 2 days to find out what to do.
Aparently, all the solutions on the internet are for wizards but not for apprentences. I hope to become a computer wizzard but are far from it now. I scanned my computer for the file sp-configure but it does not exist. I tried sp_configure as a DOS command, checked all VB menu options to find etc. On the internet the language is out of my league and jumps too quickly.

I currently have a sofware with 80 customers. All share the same database structure, when data are differents. We got 5 database for each customer.Today, we have named instances, so the program is accessing to Bdd with something like :
Connect to 127.0.0.1/CUSTOMER1
select * from base1..table1
Now, we need to change, we got many instances. The idea is to have unique SQLSERVER instance, obviously i want to avoid changing the code (VB.NET).Just tried to play with schemas and users, seems to be an option, but since the schema is under the database, in can't make it works :
Connect to 127.0.0.1/GLOBAL_INSTANCE as specific user (customer1)
select * from base1..table1 -> error @ this point
When THIS works :
Connect to 127.0.0.1/GLOBAL_INSTANCE as specific user (customer1)
Use Base1
select * from base1..table1 / or select * from table1
I can easily script some user or schema creation, and change connection strings for all customers, but i can't really change All requests: huge number.

I'm converting a user generated list box to an array and then generating a user defined number of random strings and placing it in a textbox. The code I have works fine as it will generate the number of random strings the user wants, except sometimes a line is blank at the top of the list but is counted as a string.

In my program I've got several comboboxes that all have the same comboboxitems and when the user makes a selection in one of the comboboxes the selected comboboxitem gets disabled in the other comboboxes. (i.e. If the user has selected the comboboxitem with value 'a' in combobox #1 and selected the comboboxitem with value 'b' in combobox #2 then in remaining comboboxes both the comboboxitems with values 'a' and 'b' are disabled)

I have a dgv with a column type = DataGridViewAutoFilterCheckBoxColumn. I want to know if there's a way to I can get that entire column to become disabled (or Enabled = False) so it won't let the user click on the checkboxes. I tried looking in the "Bound Column Properties" but there isn't an option to disable the entire column.

Im developing an app at the moment where standard letters need to be generated to be sent out to customers. With the customers details then filled in as you would expect... name, title, address, etc. This is an app ontop of a SQL db. The way i envisioned this working was to send the customer details to another form that had a crystal report in, and send the info via a SQL query, just as you might get a grid view to open with a query.
Thing is im struggling with it, getting the query to work especially. Ive built the report and put the relevant field place holders in there, but i cant get it to open with just the one customers info in there, it gets every customer and builds a report several thousand pages long! This is because of the "command" thats on the report that i stuck in there on a temp basis while i designed the thing.
However i want the the report to open via a button on another form, and then fill the report with the customers details (using the customer ID number on the form the button was clicked) Since im struggling with this so much, im actually wondering if im going the best way about this? Are there better ways of generating a standard letter that the end user can then view, check it, and hit print?

I am trying to figure out how to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:function Init (Quest)Then from here a user would input a quest name, type and zone in a interface using windows forms.[code]I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.Is there anyone that can explain how I would go about doing this. Or maybe some kind of visual studio plugin that will help me out.

How to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:
Code:
function Init(Quest)
Then from here a user would input a quest name, type and zone in a interface using windows forms.
Ex:
Code:
RegisterQuest(Quest, "Kill Zombies", "Heritage", "Firestorm")
end
This part a user would enter in his interface what would an NPC say if accepted.
[Code] .....
What I need is a few text boxs that a user can input "Kill Zombies" or whatever they like and when they push a generate button it will create a file with a .quest extension. All of the code remains the same except for the quotes that would be the user input from the interface. Basically everything in quotes can be changed by the user in an interface. I have created my own functions for when a user accepts, deny and complete a quest. The user just needs to input what should happen then click a generate button to throw it all together as a .quest file to be saved in his or her quest folder for the server to call on later.
I also have many other functions like:
AddQuestRewardFaction --- (Quest, Faction ID, Amount)
AddQuestRewardCoin --- (Quest, Copper, Silver, Gold, Plat)
AddQuestStepObtainItem --- (Quest, Step ID, Description, Quantity, Percentage, TaskGroupText, Item ID(s))
Etc
I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.

I have a user control, and want to be able to update its cursor while it is disabled. For example, say that I have a user control whose cursor is Default. The below code works ONLY when the user control is already enabled; if it is disabled the below code doesn't work and the cursor remains Default: Me.MY_USER_CONTROL.Cursor = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.WaitCursor

Which is the best way to store application and user settings of an application running with multiple instances? My problem is that using the vb's "Application Settings" one instance would overwrite the other one.I want to identify each instance with a number passed via command line argument. I could use this number to identify the appropriate settings of the running instance, but I see in a local INI o XML file a better way to handle that.

I select questions randomly and trying to get the corresponding options but my code below only returns options one time and stays there even though the random number changes. I have a web site that connects to a remote SQLServer, and is running just fine.I have some pretty simple 'batch' type tasks that I want to run (as a Windows application) on a scheduler (I'm more comfortable with VB so I prefer that).
Looks like VB Express won't allow me to access the remote data. Everything seems to be pointing to having to buy VS Professional for $545 (I don't have an original one to upgrade). Is there a more economical VB option?

I'm working on a little program - an issue tracker - that I thought I'd put on the web. Now I'm getting really annoyed with Visual Web Developer EE because I find it hard to work with in order to do stuff that's easy in VB. So I got a new idea. Why don't I make a windows app in VB.NET that connects to my database over the net?
Problem is that I wonder how to do this in a sequre way and I have no idea... I figure that the win app would really only be a user interface to the business logic and data that runs at my server...

I have been developing a VB 2008 application which has been using Access as its database. The app is very far a long with about 30 forms and 45 DataSets I now must change the application to use SQLServer. Unfortunately all of the Table & Attributes names have changed in the new DB. Almost all of the data model has stay the same.
I have a few questions on the conversion.
The ConnectionString is currently pointing to the Access DB. I have entered the new ConnectionString into the Setting tab. What is the best approach to make the change?
I have done some testing to change the Table & Attributes names by using Quick Replace. It seams that sometime when I would do the rename I would lose the TableAdepter on some screens.
What is the best approach to performing the renaming task?
