Converting A VB9 Application From Using Access DB To SQLServer
Jun 26, 2009
I have been developing a VB 2008 application which has been using Access as its database. The app is very far a long with about 30 forms and 45 DataSets I now must change the application to use SQLServer. Unfortunately all of the Table & Attributes names have changed in the new DB. Almost all of the data model has stay the same.
I have a few questions on the conversion.
The ConnectionString is currently pointing to the Access DB. I have entered the new ConnectionString into the Setting tab. What is the best approach to make the change?
I have done some testing to change the Table & Attributes names by using Quick Replace. It seams that sometime when I would do the rename I would lose the TableAdepter on some screens.
What is the best approach to performing the renaming task?

My boss gave me an MS Access application that was developed by our former colleague. He wants me to convert that application to VB.Net Windows form application. I went through the MS Access Application. It contains tables, queries, forms, reports and macros. I could not find the programming (Where is the code written in MS Access?). My boss wants the windows application to be same as the MS Access Application (both in design and logic). I don't how will i develop the windows form. How can I achieve this?

I have a web site that connects to a remote SQLServer, and is running just fine.I have some pretty simple 'batch' type tasks that I want to run (as a Windows application) on a scheduler (I'm more comfortable with VB so I prefer that).
Looks like VB Express won't allow me to access the remote data. Everything seems to be pointing to having to buy VS Professional for $545 (I don't have an original one to upgrade). Is there a more economical VB option?

Is there a relatively simple way that my VB.NET application can be notified of the fact that a new value has been written to a table in SQL Server Express 2008? Polling is not an option since I'd need to do that every 10 seconds nonstop.

I am trying to convert a C#/XNA project to a VB.Net project with access to the XNA framework. I have added all of the XNA framework as references in the VB project and imported them as well. Most of the code translation is going well but I am getting mixed up with some graphics issues and some event handling issues (neither of which do I understand in any languague). I have tried to puzzle it out but am digging myself a deeper hole with each attempt.I am ok with converting the variable declarations and the first three lines of the Game1 Sub. It is when we get to "graphics. preparedevicesettings . . . " that the trouble starts.

I'm having a hard time in understanding xampp. I will need to change my database from ms access to xampp. I already test it in a sample program and it works! Now I want to convert my whole system so my first step is to delete the database in my system (ms access) then create a code that will connect my system to xampp, I'm done with those things. The BIG problems are I'm having 98 ERRORS and I cant figure it out. I dont know the equivalent code to xampp. Here's the code that has error. Note that it is just one of 98 errors in my system.
Me.TableAdapterManager1.UpdateOrder = FinalSystem.FinalDatabaseDataSetTableAdapters.TableAdapterManager.UpdateOrderOption.InsertUpdateDelete
xampp doesnt have any tableadapater, but what should I do to insertupdatedelete?

I am trying to convert a VB5 program to VB2010 so that I can continue to support it on my new PC. My copy of VB5 was an upgrade from VB3 which was an upgrade from VB2 which came on floppies, so I can't just install every preceding version as my new PC doesn't have a floppy drive.I have accepted that I will have to design all the forms from scratch (whatever happened to twips?) and will have to go through the thousands of lines of code line-by-line, but I have hit a brick wall when it comes to random access files. One such file is defined in the Declarations section of Module1 thus:[code]....
I soon found I had to change Type to Structure, but then in the declaration of transrec, transtype acquired a wavy blue underline with the error message: "'transrec' cannot expose type 'transtype' in namespace 'Treasurer_2010' through module 'Module1'.So if I can't use the structure in the module in which it is declared, where can I use it?

I have just started using databases, but I am totally stuck. I made a database and table using MS Access. The table has three columns. ID, Code, and Letter. Basically, the Code column stores a number for each letter (eg. 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, etc.)
Table:
|ID|Code|Letter|
| 2| 1| A|
| 3| 2| B|
| 4| 3| C|
etc.
This table is just for reference for my program, and I don't need to change any values. But I need a step by step guide to link this table to VB 2010 and convert the values of the table to an array. For example: convert the table into the array "example" which means that example(1) = A, example(2) = B, example(3) = C and so on.

I'm trying to convert an old Quick BASIC program to VB.Net. There doesn't appear to be any direct replacement for the old file statements. Building a database seems like overkill for my simple needs.
How can I do the following in VB.Net?
OPEN "test.dat" FOR RANDOM AS #1 LEN = 20
FIELD #1, 10 AS a$, 10 AS b$
LSET a$ = "One"
LSET b$ = "Two"
PUT #1, 1
GET #1, 1
PRINT a$, b$
CLOSE #1

We are currently running a 32-bit VB.NET 2005 application with a 32-bit SQL 2000 data store. The network guru is going to be upgrading the server and SQL to a 64-bit version on both. Will the 32-bit application still connect to the 64-bit data files? I am guessing I will somehow need to tie in the 64-bit drivers somehow, but will those work on a 32-bit development system?
