I have developed a windows application which connects to Oracle Database and upload and retrieve data (using System.Data.OracleClient). It is working fine in my developement system. When I build a setup and deploy in another system, it is giving error that Oracle Client is missing.
Do I have to install Oracle Client in the client system to run my application? (When I visit Oracle site for Oracle Client, it is asking me to download a 200 MB file)
Is there any other way to do this with out installing Oracle Client in the client system?
currently i am doing a billing system project using vs2010 and sqlserver 2008. i got 2 form, one for invoice & one for delivery order, and a button to submit the invoice details to DO form.
would like to ask a few question,
1) once i add new transaction, the invoice number will be auto increment and save all details into database table.
2) the invoice number cannot use again even after the transaction being canceled.
3) how to make the DO number and invoice number the same as per transaction done / undone.
I have written a VB.NET windows service application. I installed it in my system using the Installutil.exe. But this is not available in the client's system because the .NET is not installed in that system. Is there any way to install the .NET windows service application without the Installutil ?
I have converted a Windows Forms VS2003 application to VS2005 and then to VS2008. It includes a setup project for deploying on the client computer (the regular installer, not click once). It works fine when I run it on my computer, either in VS or if I install using the setup installer. But when I install it on the client computer and then try to run it, I immediately get a System.InvalidOperation exception. I put in debug code before my code but it fails before it gets to any of my code. Both computers are XP. The client comptuter actually has VS2003, though it is not used.
I have tried it with either the 2.0 framework or the 3.5 framework (and included those as prerequisities) but neither makes a difference (and I did set that in the Launch conditions, as well as in the Advanced Compile Options). The application uses CrytalReports for VS.
I don't think I can run JIT debugging on the user computer due to permission issues. Are there any other debugging things I can try to narrow this down or has anyone encountered this.
While trying to install my application, when system tries to install .Net Framework, it gives an error. Is there any source where I could download uninstalled .Net Framework 3.0 and provide my clients with application?

I'm trying to use LINQ to SQL in Visual Basic 2010 Express.
It allows me to create the .dbml file, but in order to drag items from the Database Explorer window to the design surface, I first have to get my database listed in the Database Explorer!(this is a remote SQL Server database - not a local .mdf)
I already have a good, working connection string to the remote SQL Server database, but that doesn't help me when I'm trying to generate the DBML at design time.
Can anyone tell me how to get my remote SQL Server database identified in the Database Explorere window? When I try the "Add Connection", I am limited to Access, SQL Server Compact, or SQL Server Database File. If I try to enter the IP address & port of my DB Host I get a 'database file does not exist' message. Doesn't seem to want to let me point to a remote DB server...
We would like to create a client-server architecture application that the server can control all client computers connected to it (e.g shutdown) and we would like to put a security login and a desktop lockeron the clients. The process of the system is that when the clients starts, the desktop is locked and ofcourse the user can't access the desktop unless he/she logged-in. And when the scheduled time (e.g 1 hour) is done, the client computers where automatically shutdown like the Time Logger Softwares
I have made a project in vb.net 2008 and used sql server 2008 for database and how to make the setup that need to be deploy on those system which do not have sql server on their system .
Mainly I ask this because I don't want to distribute both versions, and if I need to instal a 64bit .NET on an x64 PC and a 32bit .NET on a 32 bit PC then I would need to make this check in my loader application to download the correct version for the correct PC.
I have a windows project completed and am using an MDI with a help menu.So now I'm working with a click once deployment. When the user clicks help, it should load an .HTM file, but instead, when installed on the client it gets a "page cannot be displayed error".
I created the file in word. Saved as an .HTM. along with it came the images folder. I placed it in the bin/debug folder. I've made sure all the images and the .HTM files are set to Build Action = content and Copy Always. These files are copied out to the deployment website. It shows as "required(auto)" under appication settings, publish. Everything else in the deployment works nicely, including Crystal Reports and Powerpacks. So what is going wrong with this? The help is a windows form with a browser control on it and the following code.Note that the Catch on the Try doesnt kick in either on the client.
Private Sub Help_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'change mouse pointer to hourglass Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
I have been developing a VB 2008 application which has been using Access as its database. The app is very far a long with about 30 forms and 45 DataSets I now must change the application to use SQLServer. Unfortunately all of the Table & Attributes names have changed in the new DB. Almost all of the data model has stay the same.
I have a few questions on the conversion.
The ConnectionString is currently pointing to the Access DB. I have entered the new ConnectionString into the Setting tab. What is the best approach to make the change?
I have done some testing to change the Table & Attributes names by using Quick Replace. It seams that sometime when I would do the rename I would lose the TableAdepter on some screens.
What is the best approach to performing the renaming task?
Is there a relatively simple way that my VB.NET application can be notified of the fact that a new value has been written to a table in SQL Server Express 2008? Polling is not an option since I'd need to do that every 10 seconds nonstop.
