I am doing a alarm system project which allows a user to select a particular alarm and test the sound. It will also enable the user to save the alarm as the prefered type. So that the next time the alarm rings, it will be that tone which the user has selected.i have already done the select alarm button, play and stop button, but i am having trouble with the save button. I am trying to convert a DLL function call which has the Callback function routine called within the DLL function call. The DLL function call signature is like this:
This is my first month for migrating from vb6 to vb.net.
i've simple code here :
this main form .:
Public Class Form1 Private Sub LinkLabel1_LinkClicked(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.LinkLabelLinkClickedEventArgs) Handles LinkLabel1.LinkClicked
I have added a textbox and a combobox into the form. There are 2 buttons as Add and Remove. Everything works fine here but the problem is after addig/removing (using add/remove button) new items into the combobox, when I close it, the new items added/removed are gone. I need to save the new items added to the combobox during close. I can understand I have to create a Application Setting which will save the new items added to combobox upon closing. But I don't know which code I need to use? Below are the currently used code of this project.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click ' This is to add new items to combobox ComboBox1.Items.Add(TextBox1.Text) 'MsgBox("" & TextBox1.Text & " Successfully Added to Combobox") [Code] .....
I have MDI form in different project and child forms in different project which is dll project. How can I call save method of my child form from MDI form when I click on save from toolbar button of mdi parent form. I can't access child forms save method at run time?
The main function receives data, uses additional functions to calculates the result and gives it back. But at one point, the function needs data from the SQL Server. I wrote a second UDF, made it visible and deployed it to the SQL Server. I see now two functions under > programmability > functions > scalar value functions:
1. The main function (IsCalcDay) and
2. The function with the data access (IsHoliday)
If I call directly the second function from VST in the debug mode, it works fine, bur if I call it via the main function, the code stops if the connection will be opened. The error is "Data access in this context is not permitted. The context is a function or method that is not marked with DataAccessKind.Read SystemDataAccessKind.Read or a callback to retrieve data from the FillRow method of a table-valued function or a UDT validation method." (translatet from German, probably slightly differnt in English)
VST (2010 prof) and the SQL Server (2008 R2) are running in my virtual W7 maschine.
Here is the code of the second function:
Imports System Imports System.Data Imports System.Data.SqlClient Imports System.Data.SqlTypes
[Code]....
Why can I open the connection if I call the function directly, but it fails if the function is called from another function?
i would like to call a funtion whos name is in a vairable.
Dim Car_service As String Private Sub ComboBox_Spray_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox_Spray.SelectedIndexChanged Car_service = ("Spray_" & Me.ComboBox_Spray.Text) end sub
Call spray_Standard 'this is what i need to change standard is what comes from the combobox 'but i would like to call the funtion depending on what the combobox.text was eg,' if combobox.text was Parkingsensors i would like to call the function call spray_parkingSensors
Private Sub Spray_Standard() Price_Subtotal = 0 Price_Subtotal = (Damagecount * 65) Car_Price_Subtotal.Value = Price_Subtotal End Sub
I have a simple program made in VB .NET 2003 with a few functions. I want to call these function from another application with automation. How can i do this?
I've created a dialog which I'd like to popup from any function or sub in any class or form that I have in a project. It would nice to have it work exactly like a messagebox except it's got a progressbar and a cancel button on it. It's job is to display the progress of other functions so it should just stay open until I close it or the user selects cancel. Now I've found many of the basic examples on the net and have got the dialog working exactly as they have shown it. The trouble is that the examples are using a counter or thread.sleep which simply adds +1 in the DoWork sub. In other words, it validates that a worker thread can update a progressbar but it's a closed loop that only exists in the dialog's class. The examples don't show how to call an unkown function in another class dynamically, they're simply a hard coded 1+1 in DoWork. To me it's not a real world example because it doesn't show how to plug into the dialog or get a communication stream from other classes and functions that are running and wanting to increment the progressbar.[code]
I have a webpage that contains an ActiveX object, called object1, and a javascript function, called alertMe(input). I wish that if user clicks on different location on object1, it will call the javascript function. Is it possible to do this? If it's possible, how should I write the calling in the ActiveX object?
Trying to imitate a Messagebox - in that, a sub will not continue until the user "deals with" the pop up.
For example, in a sub, I want a Form to pop up, and ask a user a question, and give them 3 options. I want to make it so the user must click an option, and then the sub that called it can carry on it's way.
I need help and wondering if you can help me to get my first project...it's a hobby and wondering if you can get me code for this so i can see how it does it* Evaluate( ) Prints the evaluation of the hand to the evaluation Label.
o If IsFlush( ), prints "flush; " o calls SetPipArray( ) o Uses a For Loop to go through pipArray. For each element, uses a Select Case statement to
I would like to commit the data put in a checkedlistbox to the user.config. I have found a way to commit them to my.settings but no matter what Save() method I call, it does not commit the new data (that is not bound to a control, through the propertybindings) to the user.config, either immediately or when I shutdown the application. Which means, when I loop through the settings when the application starts back up, the data is not there to be added back to the checkedlistbox. I have put save methods in the formclosing events as well as when the data is created in the my.settings. using my.mysettings, my.settings and my.settings.default. Thank you in advance for your input.
This first method is a called when a button is pushed. it checks the text and then calls the next method (AddProperty) which should add the property to my.settings and save it to user.config, but my understanding is that it is not written to the file till the applicatoin closes.
I have a form that I load to that form a control ("user control") that i build. In this control there is a button. I want that every time the user press the button it will call the function that located in the form(with parameters).
I dont know how to do it. What I did so far is when the form loads, it also load to it GUI the control that I build.
I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
I want to create an ExpressionTree where a Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vektor) should be called. So I use
Expression.Call(Forces(0).Function.Method, {Vec1, Vec2, Vec3, Vec4, Double1, Double2})(Vec1-4, Double1-2 are declared as ParameterExpression and Forces(0).Function as Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vector). But I get an AgrumentException, because Forces(0).Function.Method has seven Arguments. (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Closure as seventh argument at Index 0).
In our projects we use setting variables to store user setting for the applications. Moreover, with every latest version of the applications, we upgrade these variables to retain user settings.Normally, this works fine, but recently one of my end user reported an error i.e.Configuration System failed to initialize". The error is related to user.config file. Therefore we requested the user to send us his file. After received the folder, we noticed that it contains 3 files (3begfjb.newcfg,3begfjb.tmp and user. config). 3begfjb.tmp is an empty file, while 3begfjb.newcfg and user.config are identical files. We tried to open these files but the data in user.config isn't proper xml rather its unreadable formatted file.Do any you guys had experienced this sort of issue or any ideas how and what may have created these files and corrupted user.config file.
I'm currently working with a client's VB.Net code, which was developed for them by a small development shop a few years ago and which they purchased and have been maintaining and uprgrading since. This client's primary developer is out on indefinite (likely permanent) medical leave and I'm now filling in until they bring in a full timer (as I'm a contractor here). My current task is to add some functionality to a the VB.Net code they purchased. I'm finding practices and techniques in the code that absolutely baffle me and can't make the code do what I want. I'm starting to wonder if it's me and was hoping to get some thoughts on the code I've encountered.
For example: Setting a variable to accept the result of a function by calling the function with many parameters, clearing the parameters in the function, setting them to some value, calling another function with those new values, then never using the values returned by the functions. I'll add a code snippet in the first comment since this is already getting long.
How can I call a function from inside another function and suspend the calling function until the called function is finished? I hope I can get some replies because I don't know how to ask the question and make sense:).
Anyway what I am trying to do in steps:
1. The user clicks button1 which triggers the click event. 2. From the click event I call a function 3. I then pop-up a form, that has instructions for the user to read. 4. After the user has read the form he will click the "Done" button and return to the calling function.
The problem is the the calling function continues to execute. I want to stop execution of the calling function until the users clicks the "Done" button on the instruction pop=up. I know I can use a msgbox but the instructions can be lengthly and does not look good in a msgbox.
I have tried the Call method with return in the "Done" button click but I can make that work. I also tried a goto statement but I can get that to work either. In the call statement I said call frmInstruction.show() and it got there but as I said the calling function continued to execute.
ive two custom controls, which are used to draw and edit etc...(like paint but customized....) i want to save their images with a single click....So im using the Getimageofcontrol function to do it....its code is below:::
Public Function GetImageOfControl(ByVal c As Control) As Image Dim rc As New Rectangle(c.PointToScreen(c.Location), c.Size) Dim i As Image = New Bitmap(rc.Width, rc.Height)[code].....
and the code to call this function for saving the images is simply.. ...
I have a function where I am performing a lot number of database operations inside a Sub. The operation when called directly like:ExecProcess()
takes about 11 seconds to run. However, if I create a Delegate, and call the sub using BeginInvoke(), the very same process takes over 40 seconds to execute. Here's the threaded code:
Protected del As ProcessDelegate Protected Delegate Sub ProcessDelegate() del = New ProcessDelegate(AddressOf SELocal.ExecJob) Dim cb As New AsyncCallback(AddressOf Me.ExecJobComplete) del.BeginInvoke(cb, del)
Anyone know what may cause a function to take longer inside a new thread, rather than calling directly?
Some programs implement command parameters, Like my favourite computer game - Crysis - has them and windows media player has them. But how could i implement them in VB.NET..I want to have a component of my program built as a seperate exe - so it can be an Optional component. But of course the seperate exe, on load, needs data passing to it.So i need something like Process.start("Componentname.exe", "/StartDL <Suchandsuchastring>)/StartDL will need to call a function, and the string that it uses will be given to the function to initiate a download?
I am attempting to inherit an ASP.NET RegularExpressionValidator and add some functionality to it. I inherited the control and added my custom properties. However, I would also like the client-side functionality to call a different JavaScript function.
In order to do that, I will need to supress what is happening in the AddAttributesToRender method because the name of the function is hard-coded there. Here is what comes up in Reflector for the AddAttributesToRender function in RegularExpressionValidator:
[Code]...
Note: I tried to add the expando property before the parent class does to see if the code would check for its existence and skip it, but that just causes an exception.
I arrive from years with Oracle plsql. Now I'm trying vb.net I created a function that return a char value, so written:
[Code]...
The question: I will create a function get_type(...) in vb.net that calls the tsql function written above... how can I call the tsql function [abc].[GET_PERSON_TYPE] in vb.net function get_type(...) function?
In Windows 7 you can pin a program to the taskbar so it appears like a quicklaunch item. In my program I need to get a list of all the programs that are pinned to the taskbar. Does anyone know how I can do this programatically, either through an API call or through a registry setting?
I am a beginner in Visual Basic programming. I am attempting to place a procedure in a module which I intend to Call from somewhere else in my application. The procedure below is almost exactlyhow it was on a form called PersonalInformationMy problem is that I get the error: "txtFirstName is not Declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level." I thought that maybe I was getting that errorbecause this procedure was not on the form that it was first written for.
Below is the code I am referring to- dule md_PersonalInformation
