Forms :: How To Call Unkown Function In Another Class Dynamically
Jan 20, 2012
I've created a dialog which I'd like to popup from any function or sub in any class or form that I have in a project. It would nice to have it work exactly like a messagebox except it's got a progressbar and a cancel button on it. It's job is to display the progress of other functions so it should just stay open until I close it or the user selects cancel. Now I've found many of the basic examples on the net and have got the dialog working exactly as they have shown it. The trouble is that the examples are using a counter or thread.sleep which simply adds +1 in the DoWork sub. In other words, it validates that a worker thread can update a progressbar but it's a closed loop that only exists in the dialog's class. The examples don't show how to call an unkown function in another class dynamically, they're simply a hard coded 1+1 in DoWork. To me it's not a real world example because it doesn't show how to plug into the dialog or get a communication stream from other classes and functions that are running and wanting to increment the progressbar.[code]
How do I dynamically call a function with delegates by passing a string to a background thread in VB.NET?
Currently my code is this
Public Sub invertImageBK(ByVal image As Bitmap) Dim snxl As System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker = createBW() snxl.RunWorkerAsync(New ImageProperties(image.Clone, "invertImage", Nothing))
I am trying to convert a DLL function call which has the Callback function routine called within the DLL function call. The DLL function call signature is like this:
Now to working with Visual Studio Solutions, but I am trying something very basic but no joy. So in my project I have a folder App_Code and in this I added a class called Test.vb and added a simple function
[Code]...
But in my Default.aspx page I am struggling to find the correct syntax to call this method. Also it doesnt seem like my Test2.vb class is correctly included in the project because If I make a type the project still builds successfully when it shouldnt
I want to create a new instance of a class when I click on a button, but I need to interact with members of that class using other controls on the form, so I need the class to have a global scope. I know I could call the new class in formload, but the class creates certain variables that need to be current. If it is done on formload, the variables wouldn't be current, because if the class is created at formload, it would have different info at that time. Surely, there must be a way to create an instance of the myClass from within a sub that is accessible from other subs of the same class.
Write a program that reads in a set of grades for a class. The program takes in the number of students in the class from the user. When the Get Grades button is clicked the program then reads in a grade (0-100) for each student using an inputbox. The program should then display the percentage of students who pass and the percentage of students who fail. The program should call a function to calculate the average grade for the class. Then finally the result is then displayed.
Public Function GetPassRate(ByVal intGrade As Integer) As String Do Until gradeCounter >= NumericUpDown1.Text If intGrade >= 40 Then[code].......
I have a Windows form Application that I am creating, could also be a Windows Service that I need to run. There are basically 2 Classes that were converted from java to vb.net and 1 xml file to this. for testing purposes I would like to use the Button.click event to manually run the code. However i get an error when trying to call the sub/function the normal way.I even tried to put this classes information in the Public Class Form1 but it keeps on giving me errors. This is the Sub:
Shared Sub Main(ByVal args() As String)
so how do I call it from a Button.click event?
normally i would just do a "call main()" and it works however this time it is not because of the (byVal args() as string)
i would like to call a funtion whos name is in a vairable.
Dim Car_service As String Private Sub ComboBox_Spray_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox_Spray.SelectedIndexChanged Car_service = ("Spray_" & Me.ComboBox_Spray.Text) end sub
Call spray_Standard 'this is what i need to change standard is what comes from the combobox 'but i would like to call the funtion depending on what the combobox.text was eg,' if combobox.text was Parkingsensors i would like to call the function call spray_parkingSensors
Private Sub Spray_Standard() Price_Subtotal = 0 Price_Subtotal = (Damagecount * 65) Car_Price_Subtotal.Value = Price_Subtotal End Sub
I have a simple program made in VB .NET 2003 with a few functions. I want to call these function from another application with automation. How can i do this?
I am doing a alarm system project which allows a user to select a particular alarm and test the sound. It will also enable the user to save the alarm as the prefered type. So that the next time the alarm rings, it will be that tone which the user has selected.i have already done the select alarm button, play and stop button, but i am having trouble with the save button. Imagine that I have a System.Windows.Forms.Timer with 1000 ms interval. If I call Timer.Start() method and after 500 ms I call again Timer.Start() what happens? The second Start call will reset the interval or not? Are there any side effects?
I want to create a function (class?) that will have stored the coordinates(values) of my mdiforms, so I can call it whenever I want to dispaly the mdiforms. I want to avoid retyping again and again (in every mdi form) the above Me.Top=5 Me.Left=150 on forms load.
I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
I want to create an ExpressionTree where a Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vektor) should be called. So I use
Expression.Call(Forces(0).Function.Method, {Vec1, Vec2, Vec3, Vec4, Double1, Double2})(Vec1-4, Double1-2 are declared as ParameterExpression and Forces(0).Function as Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vector). But I get an AgrumentException, because Forces(0).Function.Method has seven Arguments. (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Closure as seventh argument at Index 0).
eg: dim classobj = xyz("CLASS_NAME") ' where classname is a valid class name and dynamically raising a known method of that class on that newly created object or class reference.
How can I call a function from inside another function and suspend the calling function until the called function is finished? I hope I can get some replies because I don't know how to ask the question and make sense:).
Anyway what I am trying to do in steps:
1. The user clicks button1 which triggers the click event. 2. From the click event I call a function 3. I then pop-up a form, that has instructions for the user to read. 4. After the user has read the form he will click the "Done" button and return to the calling function.
The problem is the the calling function continues to execute. I want to stop execution of the calling function until the users clicks the "Done" button on the instruction pop=up. I know I can use a msgbox but the instructions can be lengthly and does not look good in a msgbox.
I have tried the Call method with return in the "Done" button click but I can make that work. I also tried a goto statement but I can get that to work either. In the call statement I said call frmInstruction.show() and it got there but as I said the calling function continued to execute.
ive two custom controls, which are used to draw and edit etc...(like paint but customized....) i want to save their images with a single click....So im using the Getimageofcontrol function to do it....its code is below:::
Public Function GetImageOfControl(ByVal c As Control) As Image Dim rc As New Rectangle(c.PointToScreen(c.Location), c.Size) Dim i As Image = New Bitmap(rc.Width, rc.Height)[code].....
and the code to call this function for saving the images is simply.. ...
I have a function where I am performing a lot number of database operations inside a Sub. The operation when called directly like:ExecProcess()
takes about 11 seconds to run. However, if I create a Delegate, and call the sub using BeginInvoke(), the very same process takes over 40 seconds to execute. Here's the threaded code:
Protected del As ProcessDelegate Protected Delegate Sub ProcessDelegate() del = New ProcessDelegate(AddressOf SELocal.ExecJob) Dim cb As New AsyncCallback(AddressOf Me.ExecJobComplete) del.BeginInvoke(cb, del)
Anyone know what may cause a function to take longer inside a new thread, rather than calling directly?
Some programs implement command parameters, Like my favourite computer game - Crysis - has them and windows media player has them. But how could i implement them in VB.NET..I want to have a component of my program built as a seperate exe - so it can be an Optional component. But of course the seperate exe, on load, needs data passing to it.So i need something like Process.start("Componentname.exe", "/StartDL <Suchandsuchastring>)/StartDL will need to call a function, and the string that it uses will be given to the function to initiate a download?
I am attempting to inherit an ASP.NET RegularExpressionValidator and add some functionality to it. I inherited the control and added my custom properties. However, I would also like the client-side functionality to call a different JavaScript function.
In order to do that, I will need to supress what is happening in the AddAttributesToRender method because the name of the function is hard-coded there. Here is what comes up in Reflector for the AddAttributesToRender function in RegularExpressionValidator:
[Code]...
Note: I tried to add the expando property before the parent class does to see if the code would check for its existence and skip it, but that just causes an exception.
I was happilly programming a few hours when suddonly i get the next error and i have no clue how to solve it. I tried searching for duplicates in the .vbproj file, showing all files in the solution explorer and then deleting the .resource file etc. Nothing works what should i do?
This is the error:Error4The item "objDebugSantonInformationSystem.dlgProductionSettings.resources" was specified more than once in the "Resources" parameter. Duplicate items are not supported by the "Resources" parameter.SantonInformationSystem
I need to create unit testing project for my current website. The currentw ebsite si written in VB. All unit testing examples are using interface to create mock object. My current VB class does not implment any interface. Can I add interface and implement it to my current class and functions without affecting or changing codes to any pages in my website that call the functions? For examples my current class is like:
Base class has one field to hold numeric balance value. With 2 methods that accept arguments for adding and subtracting the new input calculating new balance. Sub class has four fields dates, transaction, memo and amount.I have a deposit form, and withdraw form. Each time one transaction is entered it creates an object with sub class fields, then adds to the account collection. My problem is not understanding how to call the deposit/withdraw method and pass the current transaction amount back to the base class to alculate the new balance. Does anyone have any links to information/tutorials on how to perform something like this? As you can see with my code I have tried various different approaches without any success.
I need to dynamically call web service! For this I made simple web service Service1.asmx
Then I created the proxy class for the Service1 Web Service, I use the WSDL.exe utility and following command at the command prompt: wsdl /language:VB /out:myclass.vb http://localhost:3245/Service1.asmx?WSDL
This command create class myclass.vb. That class I include in my Windows Application project, but when I do this I get lot of errors.
This is the how created class look like:
Imports System Imports System.ComponentModel Imports System.Diagnostics Imports System.Web.Services
