I want to create a new instance of a class when I click on a button, but I need to interact with members of that class using other controls on the form, so I need the class to have a global scope. I know I could call the new class in formload, but the class creates certain variables that need to be current. If it is done on formload, the variables wouldn't be current, because if the class is created at formload, it would have different info at that time. Surely, there must be a way to create an instance of the myClass from within a sub that is accessible from other subs of the same class.

I have a Windows form Application that I am creating, could also be a Windows Service that I need to run.There are basically 2 Classes that were converted from java to vb.net and 1 xml file to this. for testing purposes I would like to use the Button.click event to manually run the code.However i get an error when trying to call the sub/function the normal way.I even tried to put this classes information in the Public Class Form1 but it keeps on giving me errors.This is the Sub:

normally i would just do a "call main()" and it works however this time it is not because of the (byVal args() as string)

View 1 RepliesI've created a dialog which I'd like to popup from any function or sub in any class or form that I have in a project. It would nice to have it work exactly like a messagebox except it's got a progressbar and a cancel button on it. It's job is to display the progress of other functions so it should just stay open until I close it or the user selects cancel.Now I've found many of the basic examples on the net and have got the dialog working exactly as they have shown it. The trouble is that the examples are using a counter or thread.sleep which simply adds +1 in the DoWork sub. In other words, it validates that a worker thread can update a progressbar but it's a closed loop that only exists in the dialog's class.The examples don't show how to call an unkown function in another class dynamically, they're simply a hard coded 1+1 in DoWork. To me it's not a real world example because it doesn't show how to plug into the dialog or get a communication stream from other classes and functions that are running and wanting to increment the progressbar.[code]

Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.

I want to create an ExpressionTree where a Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vektor) should be called. So I use

But I get an AgrumentException, because Forces(0).Function.Method has seven Arguments. (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Closure as seventh argument at Index 0).
How can I call a function from inside another function and suspend the calling function until the called function is finished? I hope I can get some replies because I don't know how to ask the question and make sense:).
Anyway what I am trying to do in steps:
1. The user clicks button1 which triggers the click event.
2. From the click event I call a function
3. I then pop-up a form, that has instructions for the user to read.
4. After the user has read the form he will click the "Done" button and return to the calling function.
The problem is the the calling function continues to execute. I want to stop execution of the calling function until the users clicks the "Done" button on the instruction pop=up. I know I can use a msgbox but the instructions can be lengthly and does not look good in a msgbox.
I have tried the Call method with return in the "Done" button click but I can make that work. I also tried a goto statement but I can get that to work either. In the call statement I said call frmInstruction.show() and it got there but as I said the calling function continued to execute.

I have a function where I am performing a lot number of database operations inside a Sub. The operation when called directly like:ExecProcess()
takes about 11 seconds to run.However, if I create a Delegate, and call the sub using BeginInvoke(), the very same process takes over 40 seconds to execute.Here's the threaded code:

Base class has one field to hold numeric balance value. With 2 methods that accept arguments for adding and subtracting the new input calculating new balance. Sub class has four fields dates, transaction, memo and amount.I have a deposit form, and withdraw form. Each time one transaction is entered it creates an object with sub class fields, then adds to the account collection. My problem is not understanding how to call the deposit/withdraw method and pass the current transaction amount back to the base class to alculate the new balance. Does anyone have any links to information/tutorials on how to perform something like this? As you can see with my code I have tried various different approaches without any success.

I am trying to use that DLL in a console application. I have tried this code but I get an error: System.EntryPointNotFoundException was unhandled Message=Unable to find an entry point named 'ReturnHello' in DLL 'C:TestDLL.dll'.

I've got a program that has a text box with a list of files that are on any removable media. Suppose you launch the program and there's nothing in your CD-ROM drive. Right now, you'd get nothing, and you'd have to insert a disc and click a "refresh" button, which triggers a function that repopulates the list.
Is there any good way to call this function on the event that the user inserts/removes a CD-ROM from any CD-ROM drive? Also, inserting/removing external disks and flash drives? Without having to constantly poll the drives. Floppy disks aren't important to me.
