Calling A Class - Get An Error When Trying To Call The Sub/function The Normal Way?
Sep 1, 2009
I have a Windows form Application that I am creating, could also be a Windows Service that I need to run. There are basically 2 Classes that were converted from java to vb.net and 1 xml file to this. for testing purposes I would like to use the Button.click event to manually run the code. However i get an error when trying to call the sub/function the normal way.I even tried to put this classes information in the Public Class Form1 but it keeps on giving me errors. This is the Sub:
Shared Sub Main(ByVal args() As String)
so how do I call it from a Button.click event?
normally i would just do a "call main()" and it works however this time it is not because of the (byVal args() as string)
If I have two threads both calling a normal function at the same that appends strings, sometime the output string is a combination from both threads as the function had not finished executing the code before it was called again... Would a shared function wait to finish first?
I have a function where I am performing a lot number of database operations inside a Sub. The operation when called directly like:ExecProcess()
takes about 11 seconds to run. However, if I create a Delegate, and call the sub using BeginInvoke(), the very same process takes over 40 seconds to execute. Here's the threaded code:
Protected del As ProcessDelegate Protected Delegate Sub ProcessDelegate() del = New ProcessDelegate(AddressOf SELocal.ExecJob) Dim cb As New AsyncCallback(AddressOf Me.ExecJobComplete) del.BeginInvoke(cb, del)
Anyone know what may cause a function to take longer inside a new thread, rather than calling directly?
I get success calling updateresource function but after when i call endupdateresource i get access is denied What can i do . I have taken ownership of file still i get access is denied
I have a midterm project where we must replicate what our teacher has made, it is a convenience store program. I am having trouble calling the functions, he wants us to use these:
PopulateItems => Populate Items listbox based on the category selected GetItemPrice => Retrieve the price for a given item GetItemPriceFromPurchases => Retrieve the item price from the purchases list box (optional. You may not need
[CODE]...
So far I have the first list box populated when the form loads. However outside of that I do not know where to call the function in order to populate the second list box upon selection of the first.
I am trying to convert a DLL function call which has the Callback function routine called within the DLL function call. The DLL function call signature is like this:
Now to working with Visual Studio Solutions, but I am trying something very basic but no joy. So in my project I have a folder App_Code and in this I added a class called Test.vb and added a simple function
[Code]...
But in my Default.aspx page I am struggling to find the correct syntax to call this method. Also it doesnt seem like my Test2.vb class is correctly included in the project because If I make a type the project still builds successfully when it shouldnt
I want to create a new instance of a class when I click on a button, but I need to interact with members of that class using other controls on the form, so I need the class to have a global scope. I know I could call the new class in formload, but the class creates certain variables that need to be current. If it is done on formload, the variables wouldn't be current, because if the class is created at formload, it would have different info at that time. Surely, there must be a way to create an instance of the myClass from within a sub that is accessible from other subs of the same class.
Write a program that reads in a set of grades for a class. The program takes in the number of students in the class from the user. When the Get Grades button is clicked the program then reads in a grade (0-100) for each student using an inputbox. The program should then display the percentage of students who pass and the percentage of students who fail. The program should call a function to calculate the average grade for the class. Then finally the result is then displayed.
Public Function GetPassRate(ByVal intGrade As Integer) As String Do Until gradeCounter >= NumericUpDown1.Text If intGrade >= 40 Then[code].......
I've created a dialog which I'd like to popup from any function or sub in any class or form that I have in a project. It would nice to have it work exactly like a messagebox except it's got a progressbar and a cancel button on it. It's job is to display the progress of other functions so it should just stay open until I close it or the user selects cancel. Now I've found many of the basic examples on the net and have got the dialog working exactly as they have shown it. The trouble is that the examples are using a counter or thread.sleep which simply adds +1 in the DoWork sub. In other words, it validates that a worker thread can update a progressbar but it's a closed loop that only exists in the dialog's class. The examples don't show how to call an unkown function in another class dynamically, they're simply a hard coded 1+1 in DoWork. To me it's not a real world example because it doesn't show how to plug into the dialog or get a communication stream from other classes and functions that are running and wanting to increment the progressbar.[code]
I've a vb.net class library and my c# application is accessing that method. My C# code gives me compile time error that 'Start' is not supported by language, where Start is my method name.

Basically, im just searchign for uPnP devices using the uPNPDeviceFinder classes .FindByType method, .FindByUDN works, but FindByType gives an error:VB6 gives a compile error when I attempt to call the method:
Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.
why i am getting it. I am referencing and using the upnp.dll file as found in yoru system32 directory - when i reference and use this in VS2010 (say, vb.net) it all works and no issues are found, but in VB6, i get the error above.
I am just trying to call a little error check function, and if the return value, isOK, is false, let the user change stuff and then call the function again. If isOK is true, the rest of the program runs. For some reason, when i run the test under conditions I know to be valid, or true, the function still returns isOK = false.
Is it possible for a DynamicMethod to call (via ILGenerator.EmitCall -- or similar -- for instance) a 'normal' method, e.g. Private Sub BlahBlah(ByVal obj as Object)?
In VS2010 I'm encountering a PInvokeStackImbalance error when I call an unmanaged C function that takes a string argument. This only happens in VS2010 (works fine in earlier versions of vs). I know the MDA is more strict in VS2010 but I can't seem to figure out what the actual problem is.
I'm using VB6 and trying to get an instance of a Type Library object. After i retrieved the object and i'm trying to invoke a method. I'm getting this exception. However, i've checked with the parameters and its type. it is correct.I found something fishy, that method doesnt have return value. But it is throwing a compiler error whenever i'm trying to call the function and the compiler error went off when i get a return value from that method.I don't know,
i have an error when im using a function in dll. i declare this( "Private Declare Function SetChannel Lib "StreamReader.dll" (ByVal freq As Long, ByVal smyb As Long, ByVal pol As Long, ByVal fec As Long, ByVal lof1 As Long, ByVal lof2 As Long, ByVal lofsw As Long) As Boolean") [Code]
this is that error"A call to PInvoke function 'skynet!WindowsApplication1.Form1::SetChannel' has unbalanced the stack. This is likely because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature. Check that the calling convention and parameters of the PInvoke signature match the target unmanaged signature.".
What I am trying to achieve is if there is an error in cell 1 of the current row it returns to that cell. The code below tries to achieve that, but I get an error message thus:Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the SetCurrentCellAddressCore function.
Private Sub RoomPricingDGV_CellEnter(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles RoomPricingDGV.CellEnter If e.ColumnIndex = 2 And cellerror = True Then
I have a datagrid with a lot of column, but only a few group of it can be edited by user.On a CellEndEdit event i update automatically the database with the new value when the user modify one cell and then I must recharge the dataset of the dataview. If I modify a cell and then use tab or enter to move to the next one everithing is ok, but if I change a cell and then mouse_click on another one i get thi error when i recharge the dataset:
Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the SetCurrentCellAddressCore function
Unable to find a normal distribution function for VB8 Found the others I needed Math.Log, Math.Sqrt, Math.Exp but no Math.ND To give an example of the problem that the code needs to do.

I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
I'm currently working with a client's VB.Net code, which was developed for them by a small development shop a few years ago and which they purchased and have been maintaining and uprgrading since. This client's primary developer is out on indefinite (likely permanent) medical leave and I'm now filling in until they bring in a full timer (as I'm a contractor here). My current task is to add some functionality to a the VB.Net code they purchased. I'm finding practices and techniques in the code that absolutely baffle me and can't make the code do what I want. I'm starting to wonder if it's me and was hoping to get some thoughts on the code I've encountered.
For example: Setting a variable to accept the result of a function by calling the function with many parameters, clearing the parameters in the function, setting them to some value, calling another function with those new values, then never using the values returned by the functions. I'll add a code snippet in the first comment since this is already getting long.
