Calling Function From C# - Error 'Start' Is Not Supported By Language
Jul 20, 2011
I've a vb.net class library and my c# application is accessing that method. My C# code gives me compile time error that 'Start' is not supported by language, where Start is my method name.
I have a Windows form Application that I am creating, could also be a Windows Service that I need to run. There are basically 2 Classes that were converted from java to vb.net and 1 xml file to this. for testing purposes I would like to use the Button.click event to manually run the code. However i get an error when trying to call the sub/function the normal way.I even tried to put this classes information in the Public Class Form1 but it keeps on giving me errors. This is the Sub:
Shared Sub Main(ByVal args() As String)
so how do I call it from a Button.click event?
normally i would just do a "call main()" and it works however this time it is not because of the (byVal args() as string)
Error Message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL 2005 are supported VB.NET" I am using VB.NET 2008 and attempting to connect to SQL Server 2008 with XP as the operating system. I have service pack 1 installed in Visual Studio but this error message presists. The articles I have read on this error said to install sp1 as a solution but I have done that and the error persists. FYI, the error does not occur when I am using code to connect to SQL Server but when I attempt to connect using one of the designer wizards this error occure.

Basically, im just searchign for uPnP devices using the uPNPDeviceFinder classes .FindByType method, .FindByUDN works, but FindByType gives an error:VB6 gives a compile error when I attempt to call the method:
Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.
why i am getting it. I am referencing and using the upnp.dll file as found in yoru system32 directory - when i reference and use this in VS2010 (say, vb.net) it all works and no issues are found, but in VB6, i get the error above.
In VS2010 I'm encountering a PInvokeStackImbalance error when I call an unmanaged C function that takes a string argument. This only happens in VS2010 (works fine in earlier versions of vs). I know the MDA is more strict in VS2010 but I can't seem to figure out what the actual problem is.
I've found this nice library to make localization in a .NET application. Problem is, this FairlyLocal is build in C#. Now I downloaded a converter to make it happen in VB.NET. But it seems my project is using the FairlyLocal.dll which is a binary and uses _() where '_' is the name of the function. All I want is to change the '_' to 't' so it would work with the VB.NET application too. How is this possible. I'm a greeny to VB.NET and .NET overall so please don't be rude.
Problem I get is at the '_': Identifier expected. [Code]
I also tried what Justin said (with the brackets []) but that doesn't work either.
I'm currently working with a client's VB.Net code, which was developed for them by a small development shop a few years ago and which they purchased and have been maintaining and uprgrading since. This client's primary developer is out on indefinite (likely permanent) medical leave and I'm now filling in until they bring in a full timer (as I'm a contractor here). My current task is to add some functionality to a the VB.Net code they purchased. I'm finding practices and techniques in the code that absolutely baffle me and can't make the code do what I want. I'm starting to wonder if it's me and was hoping to get some thoughts on the code I've encountered.
For example: Setting a variable to accept the result of a function by calling the function with many parameters, clearing the parameters in the function, setting them to some value, calling another function with those new values, then never using the values returned by the functions. I'll add a code snippet in the first comment since this is already getting long.
I have a function where I am performing a lot number of database operations inside a Sub. The operation when called directly like:ExecProcess()
takes about 11 seconds to run. However, if I create a Delegate, and call the sub using BeginInvoke(), the very same process takes over 40 seconds to execute. Here's the threaded code:
Protected del As ProcessDelegate Protected Delegate Sub ProcessDelegate() del = New ProcessDelegate(AddressOf SELocal.ExecJob) Dim cb As New AsyncCallback(AddressOf Me.ExecJobComplete) del.BeginInvoke(cb, del)
Anyone know what may cause a function to take longer inside a new thread, rather than calling directly?
I am having a problem with the BackOrdered Function of my program. I can`t get it to say anything but 0 when I run the program. Another problem I am having is the input box pops up like 6 times and it`s only suppose to once. [Code]
A client used to work on a desktop application which i have developed a while ago. Recently, his computer got 're-imaged' by the IT department. After that, the application starts crashing at line [Code] giving an error message "No such interface supported". i am using vb.net 2003 and access database. also there is a password on the database file.
On a client's computer I get error 80004002 - No such interface supported.
I am using Vb.Net 2010 to open an Access 2007 database. On my computer the connection works perfectly so it cannot be my coding or it would not work at all. On the client's computer I unstalled a version of my program that was working and installed the latest version of and the error started.
Dim objConnection As New SqlConnection(Application("ConnString"))
My connection string is: [Code]. I googled this problem and the solution for it was having a malformed connection string where the "provider" was being specified when it shouldn't have. Example conn string: [Code]. I'm not specifying the Provider so I think I have a different problem.
Is there any function (VB.NET or C#) that can transform an English word into its singular or to its plural form? I was thinking of having a database that contains all words in English as well as their plural form but I also think that it is stupid since that will be huge and besides there are rules in English on how to translate a word to its plural form, so why not create a function that does the transformation?
I try to use a special font in my programm xxxxxx.ttf (true type font)and i got this error "only tryetype fonts are supported .this is not a true type font "i used it before with same programm but since i installed a very old version of xp i got the error.
I've downloaded the MSDN "101 VB Samples" from the MS site and I'm getting an error that reads "The project type is not supported by this installation". I can open the other files that I've tried (about a dozen in other folders), so I'm wondering if it is something specific with the VSTO files, or something about my VB setup.
I thought at first it was a problem with the path where the file is sitting, but even moving it from C:Documents and Settings[my name]My DocumentsMSDN to C: didn't work...Edit: I have also tried opening in notepad and converting the file to UTF-8, changing the File Association from MS Visual Studio version selector to devenv.exe, and running devenv /setup at the command prompt, all with no luck (all these ideas were found through Googling the error message....).
I'm fairly new to the MS Sync framework and have been beating my head against the wall for about four hours now to no avail. I'm simply trying to sync my databases (one "master" SQL Server 2008 with a SQL Server CE, the client) with:
Dim syncAgent As DataCacheSyncAgent = New DataCacheSyncAgent() Dim syncStats As Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.SyncStatistics = syncAgent.Synchronize()
It works just fine in Visual Studio 2010 and always manages to sync, but now that I'm trying to implement it on my client's computers, I always get the error:
The specified change tracking operation is not supported. To carry out this operation on the table, disable the change tracking on the table, and enable the change tracking.
I have just created a new Extensibility Addin for Visual Basic using VS2005 Professional. This addin will be targeted at MS Outlook (I hope). When I look at the References tab of the project properties, I see the following message:-An error occurred trying to load the page.Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'EnvDTE.ProjectItemsEvents'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{22800963-2811-410D-BF87-A7808EAC977D}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)).Why does this appear? How do I correct this?
I get an error : The ReadElementContentAsString method is not supported on node type None.trying to parse an xml string from the server, this is my code
Dim reader As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(New StringReader(sTempUrl)) reader.ReadToFollowing("result") Dim strResult As String = reader.ReadElementContentAsString()
I have this code that I have found on the net and I run but there is error that says "Dynamic SQL generation for the UpdateCommand is not supported against a SelectCommand that does not return any key column information.". May I know what is the problem?
I have tried to find the sdk ('Windows Software Development Kit') mentioned in the 'GIF Encoder and Decoder Sample', but there are so many SDKs I can't find the one I need. I am using visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition on Windows XP. The language I program in is VB. Can someone point me to the right SDKs for the sample and OS and VS version?
How can I make something like this: I have now made everything in Finnish but Id like to add English too. So it must chage everything (labels, menus, checkboxes, tooltips, etc) but the contents of program is the same. And compobox isnt necessary if there is easier way to do this. I just like to have "start" window to choose language.
I have used the PInvoke Signature Toolkit to create VB.NET function definitions for three fairly simple C functions contained in an external DLL. The problem is that two of the parameters are structures so pointers need to be sent and one structure (fileview) is undefined.
The structure of fileinfo is defined so I can create a structure definition in VB.NET and create an IntPtr to that structure with Marshall.AllocHGlobal. And then I can use Marshall.StructureToPtr to copy the data and do the inverse when the data is returned.
