"start" Window To Choose Language?
Nov 20, 2011
How can I make something like this: I have now made everything in Finnish but Id like to add English too. So it must chage everything (labels, menus, checkboxes, tooltips, etc) but the contents of program is the same. And compobox isnt necessary if there is easier way to do this. I just like to have "start" window to choose language.

Which language, VB.Net or C# is the best language to choose for development right now? Needing users to have the .Net framework is something that I see as a drawback to Vb.NET, but what are the pro's and con's of each language? What can be achieved with one but not the other?

We are currently hiring at the company where I work, and here the codebase is in VB.Net.We are worried that we miss out on a lot of brilliant programmers, who would never ever consider working with VB.Net.
My own background is Java and C#, and I was somewhat sceptical as to whether it would work out with VB, as - to be honest - I didn't care much for VB.
After a month or so, I was completely fluent in VB, and a few months later I discovered to my surprise, that I actually like VB. I still code my free time projects in C# and Boo though.
So my question is firstly, how important is language for you, when you choose a new programming job?
Lets say if its a great company, salary is good, and generally an attractive work-place. Would you say no to the perfect job, if the language wasn't your preferred dialect?VB or C# is one thing, but how about Java or C# etc.Secondly if the best developers won't join your company because of your language or platform, would you consider changing, to get the right people?

I would like to learn a new programming language to be able to compile the same code for different platforms.
My background in programming: VB.NET (I have been using it as my main language for the past 3 years), some Java (to which I couldn't really adapt) and very limited PHP. I use a Mac Book with OS X to code.
I'd like to find a PL with a very easy learning curve from VB.NET, cross-platform IDE and able to compile the same for Windows, Mac and Linux.
I am a beginning programmer, so a object-oriented, .net like language is probably my best bet.

[URL]From what we can see on MSDN, it says to be careful about which expressions we put as they change from language to language. My question is: what are the supported languages for writing those expressions? If various languages can do it, how does it detect which language is being used?I've made my class in CLI, and coded the expression in c#, being that it works. I've tried in c++/CLI, but that way it doesn't.
Here is my code:
[DebuggerDisplay("z = {ToString()} Norm = {System.Math.Round(Norm,2)} Angle = {System.Math.Round(Angle, 2)}")]
Now, trying it the c++/CLI way:
[DebuggerDisplay("z = {ToString()} Norm = {System::Math::Round(Norm,2)} Angle = {System::Math::Round(Angle, 2)}")]
My assumption is that it will always read the expression as c# code. Is this true?

We create a window service that will launch multiple process of an application with different configuration. And application further communicate with sql server. It works fine when we start service manually from service manager. It launch all the process ( try with launching 3 process ). But when we test it by restart the machine and service launch automatically then it launch only one process third one. I check the event log in event viewer. I see the following message by MSSQL$MSSQLEXPRESS service
Login failed for user 'dduser'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
one thing we also tried by delaying ( with thread sleep ) the code execution of service. Then by starting machine again , it launch 2 process , first one still not launch.

On my program I have a splash screen, which then goes to a form. For some reason, my form (not the splash screen, that's ontop) always starts up behind all the other windows on the screen. Is there a way to fix this, so it starts ontop, but its not always ontop of other windows?

I can't find anything about a Visual Basic application that doesn't open with focus I've written an application that takes the current clipboard text and changes all letters to lower case, then the first letter of every word to upper case (the first letter after a space), this is for when I download a file that I want to look neat (such as an mp3 audio file). It's output is then placed in the clipboard to be used as the filename (or text).
I've set a shortcut key (Ctrl+Alt+X) to open the application by placing a shortcut in Accessories so it runs instantly whenever I hit the shortcut combination. However the application steals focus when it runs, so as soon as it ends I lose focus altogether, and I then have to Alt+Tab and find where I was when I used the shortcut! There are 2 possibilities for my application, the latter is what I really want, but the former is OK for me:
1. I use Ctrl+C to copy, The application runs and then switches to the original focus (focus before using my shortcut combination), I can then Ctrl+V to paste.
2. The application runs WITHOUT stealing focus altogether, this way I can have the application copy the selected text for me, and replace it aswel

I have an application that gathers information from a user into a Win.Form and then uses the Process.Start() to start Notepad and then using Sendkeys write the Notepad document.Sometimes this works great and sometimes the Notepad window is not started as the foreground process and the document is not written.What is the best way to ensure that the window opened by Process.Start("Notepad.exe") is the active window for the duration of the Process?

I have this VB.Net 1.1 project that I have to make some changes to. There is a flag in the App.config file. If it is false, the page just loads a splash screen and runs the program normally. If it is true it first opens a login window. VB.Net is not something I've ever worked with before. I can't for the life of me figure out where the logic for the picking the startup object is. In the property pages, Main.vb is always set as the startup object, but that's not even the window that loads up when the flag is false, it always comes after the splash screen.

In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR & nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

I am currently working on a family project which is based on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" show. There is a huge diffrence between the show and my project. My project is a christmas edition and the goal is not to get money or something, since I will not add it... Erhmm... Let me get to the point. I have already designed a layout and scripted some things. I have about thirty questions but I do not want them to always spawn in the same array, if you know what I mean. I want the program to randomly choose one of those thirty questions and NEVER choose the same question in the same program run. By the way, there are four options on my project: A, B, C and D. I have got everything, I just need a code.

I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

I have multilingual application that was done in VB2005.We recently had a request to translate the application to Arabic (Egypt), so I have been happily running through all of the forms and changing the layout for Right to Left format.I have 2 forms that are problematic though.On one form, whenever I select Arabic (Egypt), it will automatically switch the selection to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and try to add an ar-SA resx file.On the other problematic form, if I choose Arabic (Egypt), the IDE will automatically select Chinese (People's Republic of China), then copy the contents of my ar-EG resx file into the zh-CN file, overwriting all of our Chinese translations and layout changes with the Arabic ones.

I have custom asynchronous WebRequest class that I am testing to find out how fast the request will be cancelled and found some odd results, that starting 6 WebRequests with TPL and cancelling them right away takes 25 sec, but when I used just regular background threads it took only 5 sec.
Update: Running them without cancelling takes with Task.Start 9 sec and Thread.Start 3 sec accordingly.

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.
