Start Debugging - The Bottom Of My IDE Window That It Is Loading Symbols At A Rapid Clip
Dec 28, 2011
Im trying to debug a troublesome Project. I downloaded and installed the Symbols from MS, set my Project to use the Folder where I installed them, etc. When I start Debugging, I can see at the bottom of my IDE window that it is loading Symbols at a rapid clip, until it gets to It stops, and I have tried waiting 15 minutes to no avail.
The file exists - D:Symbols
asapi32.pdb90DF78A27042428D99A8021F064506472
asapi32.pdb - 1.40 MB (1,469,440 bytes) - Created Wednesday, November 24, 2010, 12:25:44 PM

After rewriting a VB.NET assembly with Mono.Cecil the 'Call Stack' debugging window in Visual Studio 2010 shows the language as C# and not VB.NET. Is it possible configure Mono.Cecil to rewrite an assembly so the debugger recognises the rewritten assembly as VB.NET?The following Mono.Cecil simply reads and saves an assembly without modification. However, the debugger reads the new assembly as C# instead of VB.NET.
Dim readerParameters = New ReaderParameters() With {.ReadSymbols = True}
Dim writerParameters = New WriterParameters() With {.WriteSymbols = True}
[code]....
It is desirable for the rewritten assembly to be VB.NET so the debugging windows 'Local' and 'Immediate Window' are the VB.NET versions rather than the C# versions.

I am confused with the terms Build ,rebuild ,start , start without debugging in VS.NET.After writing the code what actually we want to do .We have to run directly by pressing F5 key or we have to build the solution .Usually i tried to run the application after coding and if shows any any errors i will fix that and run again .I never used build or rebuild thing .What exactly meant by building the solution .What is meant by rebuild and start without debugging.

We create a window service that will launch multiple process of an application with different configuration. And application further communicate with sql server. It works fine when we start service manually from service manager. It launch all the process ( try with launching 3 process ). But when we test it by restart the machine and service launch automatically then it launch only one process third one. I check the event log in event viewer. I see the following message by MSSQL$MSSQLEXPRESS service
Login failed for user 'dduser'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
one thing we also tried by delaying ( with thread sleep ) the code execution of service. Then by starting machine again , it launch 2 process , first one still not launch.

How can I get my application to load the Sub Main at the start rather than loading a form on start up.
I have tried declaring 'Public Sub Main' on my forms and in some modules, yet in my project properties, it is not one of the options.

This is all VB2008. I'm working on a plugin for an app which expects it's plugin dlls to be named something other than "dll" (in this case, it wants them named with a ".plugin" extension. I can compile my .net dll just file, copy it and rename it to *.plugin and move it over to the application folder, Run the app and everything works just fine.
But I can't debug the dll in VS. VS doesn't know that I copied it so it can't load that DLL and attach to it's process for debugging. I've searched for ways to change the default extension of files that VS builds, but so far haven't turned up anything. Even just a way to attach to the process once it's renamed to *.plugin.

I type in the following
Dim anInteger As Integer = 42
Dim aSingle As Single = 39.34567
Dim aString As String = "I like Candy"
Dim aBoolean As Boolean = True[code]...
is missing. Please build the project and retry, or set the OutputPath and AssemblyName properties appropriately to point at the correct location for the target assembly.

Using VB 2008 When I press the F5 or Start Debugging it does a rebuild even when I have made no changes since the last time. Where is the setting to tell it to only do a rebuild if there are changes?

I am working with visual studio 2008, developing a simple windows form app. in VB. but a very weird situation has presented itself (at least I think its weird).When I try F5 or any other way to start the debugger I get this message:"Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may bebecause the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see Helpfor assistance."Needless to say, Help is Helpless.The weird thing about it is that this only appears if my computer is not connected to the home network and only in VB. When I try to debug on any other language it works fine, or if I connect to the network then VB debugs fine. I do not think I am using a remote debugger.

Sometime when I press the run (F5) Start debugging button it does nothing. Often when I have jsut run it and made a quick correction. If left for a while it will then work! Have tried it with simple and complex projects.
Using W7 x64 - never had this problem with VB 2008 express.

At the bottom of the Properties window in the Visual Basic 2010 IDE, there should be a brief description of the selected property. For example "Text: the text associated with thecontrol". But it's reduced to a height of 0 so far as I can tell, and I haven'tfound a way to make it visible. Right-clicking the Properties window and selecting/checking"Description" has no effect. How do I make this pane visible?

I have read many many forums regarding the error message "No symbols have been loaded. The breakpoint will not be hit." I had this error message come up a while ago, so I opened a previous version of my project, and copied the newest version of the code I am working on into that project. Then when I debugged, everything worked fine...for a while. Then I got the error message back, so I did the same thing again, and who would have guessed the error message returned, out of the blue. I am working on the program and it works fine, then suddenly one time when I try to debug with a breakpoint I get that message again. So I did some more research and I found a post that recommended looking at the Modules window while debugging (under debug > windows > modules). And in this window under my project, it said "Cannot find or open the PDB file". However, I compared this to the previous version of the program, that works fine, and I noticed that under Path, for my project, the path that I see is not the path where my project is located. So what I am asking is can someone please tell me how to change that path to the correct path where my files are actually located? I believe that if the path is correct, it will find and load the symbols.

Trying to debug a Windows application, in the Immediate Window, if I type the following:?UBound( I see a tooltip showing the syntax of UBound, but when I complete the statement as ?UBound(CBa) where CBa is the name of an array, I get the response: Name 'UBound' is not declared. Strangely enough, the UBound function is referenced in the code prior to the breakpoint, and works correctly. Why can't I use it in the Immediate Window? I have the same problem with the Len function, it says it's not declared.

usually with C#, though the controls I'm using for this project are VB. Usually I work with programming backend robust applications, but of course when I do a simple website for a friend is when I cant figure out the problem. I'm using a VB master page for the site. The "wood" div is supposed to be a background image that repeats dynamically as far down as the page goes, but for some reason it only goes as far as the browser window height. The background-repeat:repeat-y doesnt seem to do anything, so I feel like the problem has to do with the CSS. Here's the master page:
<%@ Master Language="VB" CodeFile="Normal.master.vb" Inherits="Normal" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">

I'm using visual studio express 2008, I wrote my code for a project and then when I tried to debug it I got a few errors but one main one that says this. Visual Studio cannot start debugging because the debug target "".exe is missing Please build the project and retry, or set the output path and assembly names appropriately to point at the correct location of the target assembly. Since this is my first time debugging a program with this particular instance of the program, I am in shock. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
