View 1 RepliesI've been testing using WebClient.DownloadString and sometimes I encounter an error: "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden". It is based upon which url I use. For instance, this works:
Dim wc As New Net.WebClientDim strResult As String = String.Empty
Try
strResult = wc.DownloadString("http:/ Obama pages always fails.

error in the following line of code :
Dim str As String = client.DownloadString(Request.Url.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority) + "/GFOPortalA/isd/ViewForm.aspx?ISD_FRM_NO=" + Session("ISD_ReqId"))
How can I integrate a ProgressBar in this code? It takes normally some seconds (9-10), but my program looks like a "crash", for this reason i want use a ProgressBar

I'm working on a project that scrapes data from government websites. I've noticed that whenever I use WebClient it doesn't always get the whole HTML code. Even when I get the robots.txt file it doesn't return everything. For example, http://www.bbc.co.uk/robots.txt has 80 lines but I'm only getting 13 lines.
If an HTML block uses "display: none" in the style I can't get anything between the hidden HTML blocks.Here is the sample code I'm using:[code]...
Well i want to add a listview item to the paramater of a Webclient DownloadString here is what i want
vb
Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim wClient As New WebClient AddHandler wClient.DownloadProgressChanged, AddressOf DownloadProgressChanged(ListView1.Items(textbox1.text)'HAVE THIS IN HERE' AddHandler wClient.DownloadStringCompleted, AddressOf DownloadStringCompleted(ListView1.Items(textbox1.text)'Have THIS IN

working in an intranet sit .downloadString took less than one second,but some times the server is down (maitenance or so on) and the the result took maybe one minute or so.Is there any way to set an lower interval?for example, if the server doesn't respond in 9 seconds return empty string, or so on.
I've read some about async comm but not sure what is the best solution.
why the code below fails to retrieve the html
Dim WebReqeust As WebClient = New WebClient
Dim URL as string = "http://www.professionalorganizervannuys.com"
Dim WebPage As String = WebReqeust.DownloadString(URL)
It fails on this particular URL.
When I go to webcrawler.com and search for something, then look at the source code, a chunk of HTML similar to this displays the search results:
<div id="webResults">
<div class="searchResult webResult">
<a class="resultTitle" data-icl-coi="540" data-icl-cop="results-main" href=[website] target="_blank">[title]</a>
[code]....
But when I use WebClient.DownloadString to read the source code to a textbox, I only get this:
<div id="webResults">
</div>
There's nothing. All of the webresults have been removed.How come I can view the code in my internet browser but not on my application?? I even used an InStr method to confirm that the results weren't contained in the generated code.
I'm getting a string response from a server using a simple call of the Webclient.DownloadString() method, the returned string is something like this:
"snakeu003Cbu003E eyesu003C/bu003E"
how can I convert that in whatever those codes means?
I have looked for answers to this question, but have not found the answer I am looking for exactly. I am currently using the .Net.WebClient to upload files to a web server using this syntax:

I've been using an invisible WebBrowser control to submit a form on my server, but I'd like to use System.Net.WebClient() to accomplish this so I don't have the control hanging around on my form.I need to get the page, fill out the username and password fields, and click the submit button. This was done easily enough with the WebBrowser control, but I can't find any examples using System.Net.WebClient().

I'm writing an application in vb.net to download files from a remote server by ftp using WebClient Class
View 2 RepliesI want to make a download Manager with resume capability (dont refer me to codeproject examples which use httpwebrequest and webresponse classes) i want to make the use of system.net.webclient class. I know it can provide me with events and stuff but is it possible to resume our downlaods with this class ?
View 6 RepliesI'm not sure if this is a VB.NET error or SQL Server. But I get the above error with following stack trace:

or the server is not responding.]

I'm trying to filter submitted web sites by attempting to browse them while bouncing the request off of OpenDNS. If the page received is the OpenDNS page, I'll assume the page shoudld be blocked.
How might I accomplish this task using the System.Net.WebClient class?
Dim wc As New System.Net.WebClientGamerTag.Replace(" ", "+")wc.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(Email, Password, "http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?GamerTag=" & GamerTag)Dim fx As New System.IO.StreamReader(wc.OpenRead("http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?GamerTag=Dark Slipstream" & GamerTag))Dim str As String = fx.ReadToEndfx.Close()
The above code will open a webclient, set the credentials (possible error?), create a stream of the entire page, and then load it into a string (str).I then scan through and look for what is needed (Gamerscore, Motto, Bio, etc)-in this case.This doesn't work however, it doesn't sign in.
make a System.Net.WebClient with pause, and resume?
View 9 RepliesIs it possible to send HTTP POST with some form data with System.Net.WebClient?If not, is there another library like WebClient that can do HTTP POST? I know I can use System.Net.HttpWebRequest, but I'm looking for something that is not as verbose.
Hopefully it will look like this:
Using client As New TheHTTPLib
client.FormData("parm1") = "somevalue"

I have been prototyping a simple site search tool.I found some online references to using webclient.download data. I have a (mostly) working prototype, but it only returns static HTML on the page that is being searched.I also would like to be able to search the contents of controls (such as text in label controls that are set at run time.) In the code below, the data in label1 is not returned.[code].....
View 3 RepliesI need to parse a Unix text file so, I am using System.Net.WebClient to ftp into a Unix server then using the .DownloadFile() method to get the text file, but its coming in with the Unix end line ""; so is there a way to convert that to windows format while doing the DownloadFile method? I do re-read it after and fix it, I am just looking for a better way.
Or is there an alternate such as instead of a DownloadFile, and the two other steps above can I just read it into an array right off the Unix server?? If so then what method would I use?
I am getting an error with this Dim Web As New WebClient Web.Proxy = "69.196.16.237:62159" It says runtime errors may occur when converting string to System.Net.IWebProxy What does that mean?
View 9 RepliesMy application requires a user to log in and allows them to edit a list of things. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application.

I have a routine that will connect to a tcp server and then disconnect which works perfect. It checks the connection to another program on another pc which is what I need. But if the computer is not on or the ip address is not valid, it takes a bit for it to time out and continue on.
how to add a timeout of 2 seconds to the following code?
Private Function CheckServer(ByVal IP2 As String, ByVal Port2 As Integer) As Boolean
CheckServer = False

I have a Windows Service that is behaving strangely on Windows 2003 systems (works fine on XP, Win7). If the service is started manually within the OS, then everything is fine. However, if the system is rebooted (with the service set to Automatic startup), then an "At least one service or driver failed during system startup" dialog is generated once the boot completes. If I check the event log, there is an event 7022 with the following text:
